I have this one also, at low speed it is pretty quite. I run a Iron Phosphate lithium battery at 960 watt hours and can move my 12 foot cateram at about 6-8 mph depending on wind and waves, it uses 1200 watts at full throttle or 25 amps of 48 volt current. This means that depending on tides and wind, I can get probably about 40 min of full throttle with one battery I have or about 4 miles. for the price I think it is pretty cool, but would look at a 48 volt 80lb thrust trolling motor for the same price and ultra quite, maybe give up on 1-2 mph. So to figure out time usage, take the battery volts x amp hours = watt hours and this will give you a better idea. So if you have a battery with say 48 volts and 20 amp hours = 960 watt hours, and if the devise uses a total of 1200 watts then you get approx 40 min at full speed. Remember when you go slower then you gain multiples of more time as it is easier to push something slower.

We have a 22ft sail boat and and we are looking for an electric outboard. We don't want to go fast but need to be able to overcome wind and tide when motoring back to port. Our yacht is quite light weight around 600kg. Im wondering if this would be suitable to push our sail boat. We would run it on Lifepo4 batteries.

A 12 volt 40lbs thrust trolling motor would of got you that speed.
@chiquiabello43725 жыл бұрын
Depends on the RPM of this motor vs the RPM of the trolling motor. Most TMs are in the 1500 RPM range +/- a bit. I've seen these 48v motors advertized at 3000-4000 RPM, so you would assume that these would perform at over twice the speed of a trolling motor. However, I've owned a Hangkai 2-stroke motor and the stated claims about its HP and speed were overrated, i.e, a motor listed at 3.8HP actually performed more like a 2HP, so with these guys you never know. I think the good news i that we're starting to see higher voltage electric motors for these applications, so hopefully in time we'll see improved performance. BTW, some people may not be aware that trolling motors with higher thrust ratings don't have a higher max speed than lower thrust models, assuming the same RPM. They're just better at overcoming resistance like wind and current.

@@chiquiabello4372 Good
@wiseguygazette5 жыл бұрын
@@chiquiabello4372 The max speed will be the displacement speed of the vessel, which I believe most trolling motors will achieve. So since this motor is not powerful enough to get you "on plane" which allows you to directly gain speed through extra RPM, it may not be faster than a trolling motor. I actually owned one as well but it broke eventually. I am looking to either get another hangkai or just a good trolling motor and it is a hard decision because I really did not feel like I was getting much speed out of mine.
