I can't imagine what Czechoslovakia went through OR my parents during the Hungarian Revolution. Horrifying experiencing the atrocities of Hitler's Gestapo. That level of cruelty bestowed upon one man against another, and that constant fear of death ... Somebody got their comeuppance. That poem was powerful. The NOT at the end was a loud and clear message. RIP to all that gave their lives. Your sacrifice has shaped the world.

@@donniedickerson8077 Manhunt, Ministry of Fear and Cloak and Dagger. The last is probably the lesser of the four. The other three are all masterpieces. I think you would also enjoy Lang's last film The 1000 Eyes of Dr. Mabuse. Not exactly an anti Nazi film but the action takes place in a hotel that was built by the Nazis to spy on people. IIMO it is another masterpiece and Lang showed no decline whatsoever in creativity in this his last film in 1961. BTW Lang' s silent, Dr. Mabuse the Gambler is one of my 13 all time favorite films. 4 1/2 hrs long and not boring for one second. Both Mabuse films are on KZbin with English subs.

Thus film graphically takes you through the times of the brutal Third Reich and the struggles of the patriotic people of those countries which were " occupied" by this super power. These people knew what the real power of being "free" meant and resisted by all means to prevent themselves from being enslaved. A must watch film by those who are lucky enough to breathe free air today in their own homeland.

Good movie but unfortunately a bit of a fairytale. The reality is that after the assassination of Heydrich 2 villages were totally annihilated - people and houses, nothing was left. Many others shot or sent to concentration camp. For harbouring the three men who killed Heydrich. The men were all killed by the nazis shortly afterwards. Please people, learn from this and don't let this ever happen again!

It's amazing how they create the WW2 movies during the war itself.According to Wiki: Heydrich was mortally wounded in Prague on 27 May 1942 as a result of Operation Anthropoid. He was ambushed by a team of Czech and Slovak soldiers who had been sent by the Czechoslovak government-in-exile to kill him; the team was trained by the British Special Operations Executive. Heydrich died from his injuries on 4 June. Nazi intelligence falsely linked the Czech and Slovak soldiers and resistance partisans to the villages of Lidice and Ležáky. Both villages were razed; the men and boys age 14 and above were shot and most of the women and children were deported and murdered in Nazi concentration camps.

My third viewing, and it still is a powerful and entertaining film. It was done, if memory serves, a year after Heydrich's assassination. Good film but historically inaccurate. The Czech government in exile in London needed to get Churchill to take more notice of the situation in Czechoslovakia. They trained and recruited Czech soldiers already in England. One of then betrayed the group and they were flooded to death in the crypt of a church. Signs of their last stand are still visible. The Nazis also razed to the ground the home villages of at least one of the soldiers involved. Can't remember the details.

Just to bring up the name of Bertold Brecht who either co-authored the script with a certain John Wexley (wikipedia calls him a credit-stealer) or is usually credited for both the story and the script. His name appears as Bert Brecht. The Inspector Gruber is pure Brecht, in an Arturo Ui kind of way.

Somewhat interesting movie, but the assassination story is completely off the reality, as is most of the plot. If you want to see a more realistic film on the theme, watch for example a Czech film Atentat, much better than a more recent foreign version.

A good film, but historically inaccurate of course. The Czech assassins were trained in Britain and sent to Prague to kill Heydrich. He was not shot, the gun jammed. He suffered from shrapnel from a bomb and died of infection days later. What the assassination gained is uncertain.

Things like the real cause of death and who actually shot the monster Reinhard Heydrich (it was nice to learn that the sicko's wife did not go unscathed after the German's were defeated, look her up in Wikipedia or other search machine). Gr8t movie considering it was made in actual war time (just like the also historically based movie 'Silver Fleet' (1943)). These movies were normally made and seen in countries where not-c's arms, feet and legs were a little short of reaching out in retaliation (repercussions).
