That baritone player seems to really be enjoying this beautiful set of music.

Yes, he clearly was! That was the late, great Howard Johnson--known not only as a baritone sax player but also as the world's top jazz tuba player. He even founded a group named "Gravity" that featured six tubas! R.I.P.

I am very thankful that I was I was able to watch episodes of Night Music. I was exposed to music and musicians I would have never heard. I don’t well see another show like Night Music again. It was way ahead of its time.

Yes, it's amazing that Night Music ever made it onto network t.v.--late night or no. There's been nothing like that before or since. Sadly, America has never appreciated & celebrated its own art & culture. Kudos to David Sanborn and whoever it was at the network that managed to get Night Music on the air.

Kudos to David Sanborn for showing respect to one of his biggest influences on saxophone, Mr. Hank Crawford. RIP...

So in addition to Hank and David Sanborn that's definitely Howard Johnson on Baritone. Hiram Bullock laying down the groove on guitar. But who are the others?

I'm very sorry to hear this sad news! "Night Music" was one of Sanborn's great accomplishments. It's almost unimaginable that he managed to get such a high quality, jazz-oriented live music program onto network t.v. It was stunning at the time, and unimaginable today. R.I.P. David.

Yeah, but in contrast to the overrated Elvis, he *paid his dues" and **he paid his proper respect (as is made obvious on this video…) to those who were his forebears. He also dedicated an entire album to another alto player (with just as much talent as Sir Hank) Julius Hemphill and a lot of people know how about Sir Julius's work thanks to Sanborn.

@@Erschophone RECOGNITION AND ACKNOWLEDGEMENT IS NOT COMPENSATION SIR. IN A REAL MULTI RACIAL PLURALISTIC SOCIETY AFRICAN AMERICAN JAZZ MUSICIANS WOULD BE COMPENSATED AND REWARDED B4 THE COPYCATS. THAT'S WHY FOLKS PAY SO MUCH FOR ORIGINAL ARTISTIC WORKS AND NOT THE DUPLICATIONS. I'M JUST SAYING!

@@dennisdaniels3923Why are you shouting 😂 ? The musical family tree of alto greatness in that singing style on the alto sax goes from Louis Jordan & especially Earl Bostic to Hank Crawford to David Sanborn . All musicians have influences who serve as early inspirations. The great musicians eventually get their own sounds. David Sanborn always gave flowers to the greatness of Hank Crawford- along with Johnny Hodges & Benny Carter - throughout his playing career. And I know you're talking out your ass about compensation as I remember the last time I saw Mr. Crawford in concert 31 yrs ago & while talking briefly with him about how much his music has meant to me, I referenced his ' musical son ' David Sanborn & the big smile that came upon his face. A young Jackie McLean or Phil Woods main influence was Bird. But both went on to get their own sound & influence generations. Billie Holiday influenced every singer that came after her- but the greats developed their own style while remaining inspired by Lady Day. Case in point, my personal favorite Ms. Carmen McRae.
