Loved that interview. 😊 friendships make life worth going around the track a few laps and then pull over for a pit stop. Then make a pact to go around the track for a few more laps... then life decides no more laps and no more pit stops. Never forget the great times.

Absolutely, I have met him several times and he is a true christiam gentleman. His dad was an alcoholic and he said as a child he vowed to never have anything to do with alcohol. He said Ray Scott called him about some tournament he wanted him to fish. Hank told him he wouldn't fish the tournament because it was sponsored by Miller Beer. Ray said naw man Miller was dropped a while back. Hank said ok I will fish it then.

Dale Sr. was a pure hunter. And, that's what made him a great driver. If you hunt, you must use all of your senses. You must notice every detail of the chaotic forest. A bent branch, a rustle or snap, the lack of birds or silence, a smell, these are all signs. This is why they said Dale Sr. could "see the wind". No, he didn't see it... but he saw the signs of it. So, this means Dale Sr. was a hunter on the track as well as in the forest. He was always tracking, always hunting for the best line.

Beautifully described!

Like Dale said in his own words, "No you can't see the air, but you can feel it when its blowing in your face". LOL. His reason he loved the open face helmet.

Nothing is born a hunter. To become a hunter you must understand how to survive. Children in volatile (not necessarily violent) homes can become hyper vigilant. They learn pattern recognition much earlier than most understanding what causes the heated situations and what steps can be taken to avoid them and how to calm them if unavoidable by making the volatile person happy. Some end up viewing every situation like this. As adults they can seem like arrogant know it all's that don't listen to anyone, except when it's someone they know they can learn from. They have high expectations of those around them. They rarely suffer fools. They tend to have a quick temper yet will more often than not feel bad for losing it. They never want to be seen as the person that made them this way. They rarely get close to people. They will do what they can to not put their children through what they went through. At the same time they won't understand why the children don't see the world they do. They see more than most. They hear more than most. They feel more than most. They care more anyone ever realizes. They will do anything for those they love if the situation makes sense to them. Might even cost them their life...

The only time I've ever been star struck was when I met hank parker, about 14 years old at the Concord Speedway. I was standing at the gate they would take haulers across I guess and he ran across the track between races hollering for me to pick the gate up so he could squeeze under it. He crawled under, stood up and thanked me, introduced himself and shook my hand. All I could say was some jibbersh and he went on about his business. I never forgot that though.
