Best version of this song I've been able to find on KZbin. While I was looking for a good guitar lesson for this song, at that. Wouldn't you know it. A live version, of Hank Jr. Himself, playing it live, with a band. Simply incredible. Surely no better lesson could possibly be available. Than one of Hank, the man himself, showing everyone who cares to watch the way that he plays it. And this one is better than the recording studio version, on his albums. In my humble and honest opinion. There's no wonder why Hank Jr. is and will always be my number 1 favorite music artist of all time. There's no better songwriter, guitarist, singer, showman, and all around great American than Hank Williams Jr. And there is no one ever gonna be better than him. Others can only hope to compare, or be even close to the same level as him. He's been so great in his life. Giving us so many great songs throughout his career. He's no doubt, a legend. If anyone else is a legend. He's god-like. No one does it better. Not yesterday, or even today. Despite his age. He's only gotten better.

Hank was a guest on Hee Haw several times, and you can tell he really had a good time with Buck Owens, Roy Clark, and the rest of the gang. I recall he was telling a joke in the cornfield skit and he was trying to discreetly look at the cleavage of one of the Hee Haw Hunnies. It was so darn funny. FYI, I saw my first Hank concert in 1983 in Nacogdoches. Somewhere on the Stephen F Austin University campus. With my gf, Jenna Judson 😁

I was stocking shelves in a Safeway Supermarket when Hank released this song. I’d hear it every day on their Muzak speakers, but the volume was so low so I couldn’t quite make it out. I was thinking “dang that sounds like Hank“. For some reason, I wasn’t hearing it on the radio at any other time, but I was hearing it in the store during the day. I finally bought the Montana Cafe CD (because CDs were a big deal at that time, right lol). I absolutely loved the Montana Cafe CD… the blues melody, the song with Huey Lewis, My Name is Bocephus, and especially Montana Cafe. For many years, I was trying to find out who said “I know where Hank Jr is“ at the end of the Country State of Mind song. I finally found out a few weeks ago from someone here in the comments. It was Dickey Betts!! Good post, Junkie!

Wow, I had to do a double take on the CD thing. I was born in 1990 but had no idea CDs came out in 1982. I thought they didn’t become available until the mid to late 90’s. Wikipedia schools me once again. Cool story though

@@rsafree1139 Same, I was born in '88 and also didn't realize that about CDs. Very cool story! My parents didn't listen to country when I was growing up (darn liberals, lol!) but it reached me through the airwaves in the early 90's when I was growing up and I eventually discovered the music that means the most to me including Bocephus.

The Bama Band rocks! You need to listen to their 1986 CD “The Bama Band” they recorded it by themselves without Hank, Lamar Morris & Wayne “Animal” Turner nails it. Man it’s hot🔥 I wore my copy out. Pure ass kickin’ southern rock, you gotta hear it.
