Some people might call this sort of song maudlin but I'd like to think that this would bring comfort to couples who have lost children before their time. And there are couples who have lost children; we shouldn't forget.

I ❤ this song . At the cemetery next to my mom's grave there's a 3 month baby boy buried there . You can clearly see that nobody visits the grave because there's never no flowers on the grave . I find this so sad , because its like he's been forgotten . I know its not the case because I know a parent would never forget such a tragic loss. I place flowers on his grave for him , for his parents . Because I think everyone should have flowers on their grave - so people know that someone cares and as a sign that the person hasn't been forgotten .

I have been listening to Hank Williams for all of my life and I am 65 years old My father Tom Byrd would buy his recordings and play them for everyone and even as a kid my heart and soul would be filled with the joy of his performance and I believe that he truly was the very first super star in country music and to this day is still the greatest country music super star ever and that includes George Jones Conway Twitty Lester Flatt Earl Scruggs Johnny Cash Merle Haggard Willie Nelson Waylon Jennings Porter Wagoner Earnest Tubb and the list goes on and on with Hank Williams right at the top When every new year comes in I always think about him and what country music would be like today had he of lived a full life and written more songs for everybody to enjoy And thank you everybody for letting me say what I felt about Hank Willams and May God bless us all and love always your friend in Christ Jesus Gerald R.Byrd

This is a sad song, reflecting on the issue of infant mortality. It was fairly high in the poor areas of Appalachia then, and it still is to this day, even in Ohio.

Unknown to the public until many years after his death, Hank Williams was born with spina bifida. Around 1950, Williams injured his back badly in a fall during a hunting trip. The injury was so bad, it was unknown if he would ever walk again. Hank Williams recovered, but was in constant pain. A doctor, later found out to be a "quack", prescribed him various painkillers and medications to kill the pain, and to help him get awake, and to fall asleep while touring on the road. Williams' alcoholism only made things worse. Over time, the medications damaged his heart, and Hank Williams died in his sleep of an aortic aneurysm (a hole opened up in his aorta, and he bled to death inside) whiled riding in his car on his way to a concert in Canton, Ohio on January 1, 1953.

The story of the song is revealing. I believe the mother was speaking of the grief of her husband at the loss of their child (we lost our baby). Others have disagreed as to who was telling the story, perhaps a random stranger. Many people today suffer as their loved ones go through dementia. I would welcome comments. Hank told a story like no one else.

(I'M NOT YELLING, IN FACT THE ONLY SOUND I'M MAKING IS THE TAP TAP TAP OF THE KEYBOARD. I TYPE IN ALL CAPS SO THAT WHEN I TYPE I'LL I CAN SEE THE DIFFERENCE IN THE I'S VS L'S) ANYWAYS, THAT'S WHAT I LOVE ABOUT HANK WILLIAMS. HE LETS YOUR MIND BE OPEN ABOUT THINGS SUCH AS WAS IT THE PARENTS, OR PERHAPS THE DAD AND STEP-FATHER MEETING FOR THE FIRST TIME? THEY'D BE STRANGERS TO ONE ANOTHER... AT LEAST THAT'S WHAT I IMAGINE WHEN I LISTENING TO THIS SONG. (WE LOST OUR BABY) BOTH MY BIRTH-FATHER AND STEP-DAD CALL ME THEIR BABY GIRL, AND THOUGH I'LL BE TURNING 31 I'LL ALWAYS BE MY DADDY'S BABY GIRL. I'M 'PART OF HIS HAPPIER YEARS', AND HE IS OF MINE. THAT'S ONE THING I'M GOING TO DO WHEN I GET TO HEAVEN, I'M A GONNA HUNT DOWN HANK WILLIAMS, AND ASK HIM THE TRUE MEANING OF THIS SONG.

“In the English language there are orphans and widows, but there is no word for the parents who loses a child.” ― Jodi Picoult, My Sister's Keeper You never "get over it," but it does get better. and it does. Going on 30 years now, I lost a little boy. I have never stop thinking of what might have been. I have been blessed with a beautiful daughter in heart, soul and face, but there some things I could have only passed on to a son. July of 90' I had a N.D.E. and I had felt my son's presence near. When I came to in C.C. U. I remembered my parting message; "Nothing is forever, but what is, is." Life moves on, and never totally, so must we... at least for now...Will

24 years young and hanks been my favorite artist sinse i age 11 i stumbled appon hank, the everly brothers and the loovin brothers at the same time and my life was forever changed. and hate to be that guy but in all honesty thier are several that sound like hank hell right after his death hank jr did some of his daddys songs live and holy fuck spittin image and sound its quite chilling goes to show that modern twang that makes me ill to my verry core is a forced choice not a talent full special sound of greatness like everyone seems to think from the mid 70s through today but never the less my grandmother at 84 years old had to chime in and let me know that shed never heard anybody sing hank worth a fuck includeing her belated and beloved pard untill that verry day this is also the woman that told her own grand daughter that that great gran baby she just poped out is about the ugliest damn thing shed ever seen legit infront the whole family and to her face at the moment of birth and to be totally fair she wasnt a cute baby by any means and is a rather hideous teen aswell especally cuz shes human garbage on the inside aswell little bit of lifes harsh truths for yall but none as prolific and talented a song writer and not a soul alive has such a deep understanding of human emotion as this man right here did and probly never will be another but his true gift wasnt just his voice.
