Cheers Chris. I like that sound too. Helsinki does resonant organ sounds washed in reverb with ease.

@CharlesFerraro6 жыл бұрын
I’m sure you already know but in the vid you say the lo-fi freq knob chooses the frequency to distort. It’s actually reducing the sample rate. All the way open might be 44.1 or 48 and all the way closed might be 0Hz sample rate if the sound gets completely cut off. It’s good for adding aliasing the the sound on purpose which def gives it a low fidelity feel.
@HankAstral6 жыл бұрын
I didn't know that. Thanks for pointing it out

Oh cool, I learned a lot from your tutorial too. Really excited to get my hands on the Switch version. Think you'll do an in-depth tutorial like this on the other Gadgets?
@HankAstral6 жыл бұрын
Glad you got something from it. I might do more tutorials though the days keep getting away from me. In the meantime maybe you should do one?! You obviously know your stuff.
@CharlesFerraro6 жыл бұрын
haha thank you thank you. I do tutorials on the Korg Kronos over on my channel. Maybe I'll do some on Gadget when I get it. Yours is one of the few videos I could find that walks through the parameters... usually people just go through presets without really getting into design. I really appreciate a video like this where you start from an initialized state and show what each part of the engine does with audio examples. Also great job on your video editing!

Thanks for the tutorial, one question, in gadget what loop length do you think works best in composing?
@HankAstral4 жыл бұрын
interesting question. You can do a lot with 4 bars if you mix parts in and out and if you like hardware grooveboxes then 4 bars is ideal. But a contrasting section is always nice. So maybe 8 is the sweet spot with lots of automation and mixing of parts. Incidently, most of my pieces are just a single 4 bar loop. You could have a listen to see if there is enough going on for your taste. 'Circles and squares' and 'silent square' are good examples.

11:00 had a very reznor feel- I cant seem to place any of the sounds I make in Helsinki- they sound great solo, or with the drum modules, but I cant get them to harmnoize with the other synths
@HankAstral3 жыл бұрын
Blending synths is such a personal thing. Its almost the opposite with me! The great thing with Gadget is that there are lots of other good ones. Hope you can find one that works for you.

so any midi keyboard with pitchbend /mod wheel will work ? thank you ,M .J .
@HankAstral4 жыл бұрын
Yeah it should do
@KrasavkinRomanE7 жыл бұрын
Tell me, dear friend what a midi-keyboard is better korg microkey or korg nano key studio ,I mean on which key is better to learn to play?)
@HankAstral7 жыл бұрын
If you want to learn how to play the keyboard then neither is a good choice. You should get a midi keyboard with 61 full sized keys. Any one will do. Choosing between the microkey or nanokey depends on what you want. If you only need 25 keys then the nanokey is better because it is ultra-portable and has some nice controllers and an interesting scale feature. If you want to compose/play in a more traditional way with both hands and construct chord sequences then get the microkey. hope this helps

@@HankAstral does it have the grainshifter effect in there?
@HankAstral4 жыл бұрын
@@boimesa8190 No but you could use the gadget which does. You also get the channed strip which has a filter and nice reverbs. The FX on external audio sound very good in Gadget but it is not easy to program beats and other stuff around it because for some crazy reason whenever you select a track other that the external audio one it mutes the input.

@@HankAstral which gadget does have it? What about the ZURICH gadget..??? Does that have the grainshifter effect? I just REALLY want that effect in my DAW, it's driving me crazy that there isn't a plugin version that I can use on all of my instruments 😭😭

Hey Hank. Thanks for this. Helps a lot 👍🏼 QUESTION: around the 26mins mark, you mentioned arpeggiator. Where’s that coming from? Can’t see it on the Helsinki bank. Is it from midi keys elsewhere? Hope that’s not a silly question. Complete noob here, newly addicted to digital sound making 😬
@HankAstral4 жыл бұрын
good question. Unfortunately it isn't an arpeggiator. It is a sequence I programmed that SOUNDS like an arpeggiator. Error on my part so sorry about that.
