The hankies are lovely in the uk hankies are much smaller than the ones you use but that’s ok because I like miniature things for miniature dolls so thankyou they would look lovely hanging in a 1/12 scale wardrobe x

I am so glad i saw your video. I am 67 years old, and i have a collection of vintage hankies that were given to me by my grandmother and her sister when i was a little girl. I have kept them in a drawer all these years. I just got them out and washed them by hand and was hoping to do something crafty with them. This is perfect! I will get out my paper and start practicing! Thank you!

I watched and rewatched with success! My dresses were used as part of the table dressing at my daughter’s baby shower. She wanted a vintage tea party. Each guest had a dress on their plate.

I am about to start a hanky quilt for a friend from her grandmother's hankys.So glad I saw your video.Love your quilt.I have 42 to use to make 3 sisters a lap quilt each.I will end up using sashings and or borders to make big enough.Thanks for you butterfly instructions also I may do one like that and maybe a dress one and then a plain black one for them.She was going to give them to me and another friend.I just couldn't take them and told her I would make her one quilt. Then she asked me to do three so 3 it will be.Such beautiful handkerchiefs.

You are an excellent teacher! Can you tell me the best way to attach the hankies to the background fabric?
@BrendasQuiltRoom
@BrendasQuiltRoom Жыл бұрын
Connie, thank you for the kind words. I am currently working on another hankie quilt for a friend. I am using a lightweight Pellon iron-on fusible interfacing on the backside of the hankies, after they are finished with the folding process. This will help to ensure that the folds stay in place. I also have used some clear tacky glue down the folds in the front. Very small dots. I attached my hankies to the foundation block of the quilt by hand with matching embroidery thread. I realize that not everyone is able to do hand sewing. With the Pellon interfacing on the back making the hankies a bit sturdier, you should be able to pin them to your block and do a small zig zag or blanket stitch around the outside edge with matching colored thread. I have learned since I made my first dress hankie quilt that the interfacing helps to keep the folds in place. My quilt has hung on my living room wall for almost 2 years now and one of the more "thin" vintage hankies has the folds sort of falling out. I have had to go back with a little bit of tacky glue to put it back into place. Maybe I need to do a "new and updated" hankie video with a few additions. Thank you for your feedback and I hope your quit turns out beautiful. I would love to see a picture of it!

How many inches is the "standard" square hankie before you begin folding? I image it can depend on the project, but I liked your dresses so much I am planning on making four of them and I need them all to be about the same size. Such a lovely project. I am so excited because it will allow me to pull together a display that incorporates my mother-in-law's antique hankies, my mom's quilting talent, and hopefully my crafty side at making the dresses and then I will frame them. My mother-in-law is quite elderly and I would love to share this with her before she passes. So beautiful.
@BrendasQuiltRoom
@BrendasQuiltRoom 2 жыл бұрын
Most of the hankies are anywhere from 11 x 11.5 to 13 x 13.5 inches for the "dresses" The ones for the "wedding gowns" were even larger than that. That is so sweet to do that for your mother-in-law. I am sure she will just love it. I also did another video where I show you how to fold the hankie into a butterfly. I actually did that for a friend whose mother-in-law passed and mounted it into a shadow box frame for her. Thank you for watching and if you have any questions, please feel free to ask.

Have you ever figured out a groom' hankie to go with the bride's?
@BrendasQuiltRoom
@BrendasQuiltRoom Жыл бұрын
I have never thought about that. That is something that I will have to look into. Thanks for the idea. I do know that black hankies are hard to come by because they were "mourning" hankies used at funerals. Most of those did not survive the period. I do have a couple of black ones in my collection. I will see what I can find.
