Hanna Barbera produced most of the cartoons I watched as a kid. I loved each and every one of them. When those two great men died, the world of children's entertainment began to glow less brightly than before. Farewell good Sirs. You shall be missed.

The swirling star really had the biggest legacy. That was their logo from I think 1977-1989. Then they brought it back in 1998 for the Powerpuff Girls.

I know theres comments saying they had nightmares about the Star, but I remember I had a weird dream in Maryland when I saw this logo, and after the logo played, my grandpa said “Behavior”, and I heard that out of nowhere because he was dead, and I still miss him. I had no idea why he said that, it was probably my thoughts or something. And then I got scared that it was gonna kill me, and then it ended, and that was my dream.

I was born during the final season of the non-CGI Swirling Star logo. I remember the CGI one appearing on The Smurfs, The Snorks (1987-88 eps.), The Jetsons (S3 from when they had that 2 shades of light blue background closing credits), Popeye and Son, The Flintstones Kids, and the Powerpuff Girls among shows.

@megamanj2004X Snorks used the 1983 subvariation of the logo through the 1985-86 season, then used the 1986 CGI Swirling Star for its last seasons. Foofur and The Flintstone Kids also originally (and obviously) had the 1986 CGI version.

The sound and visual combination can confuse and intimidate. Also some kids get scared at things that seem strange to us adults. Sometimes irrational fear is actually quite rational. I personally LOVE it. It's a perfect example of American Identity. Something which an English man like myself is very interested in.

Note to gagaman: It *does* send a chill down my spine...but in a positive way. The C-Major chord sounds 'jolly & uplifting' (or do we say 'funtastic'?) and not 'of despair', IMHO.. Oh sure. Its just that there is this impression I had when I was younger that he was kind of laughing AT you, or something along those lines, or he knew something you didn't, but it was never TOO sinister, etc., the music is light-hearted/goofy, and that is just what Muttley does... Though taken out of context (cartoons), I think it can still weigh on the minds of a few more sensitive kids from time to time. But I don't think I had any nightmares on his account when I was younger... :)

I thought the Richie Rich Show used the 1979-early '80s Swirling Star version? The Snorks don't have that variation. I think this must've appeared on The Flintstones Kids, b/c I saw a couple of times on the old Family Channel. I've never seen Foofur before, so I can't comment on that show. So it might be a toss between The Flinstones Kids and Foofur since both of those debuted between 1986-87 periods when Taft was still around distributed H-B shows.

You mean like Dexter (actually '96), Powerpuffs and so on? Yeah, that was when they brought in some younger people and just let them pump new life into things. And I think those were some of the brightest spots in TV animation's history. We had something of a minor golden age from the late 80s to the early '00s. But since then standards have been sinking like a stone once again. Things are a different KIND of bad than they were in the 60s and 70s, but they're still bad.
