When I watched this as a kid, I was so confused as to why they used Tish as Miley's mom, and not Brooke Shields, like they did the entire series. But I'm just now watching this again and noticed this is supposed to be a scene from Miley's REAL life, since they refered to the kid as Miley CYRUS, and not STEWART. It makes so much sense now.

This ending does not mean that Hannah Montana was her imagination. It means that Miley Cyrus wanted this ever since she was little and eventually she got her own TV show. It's basically showing you that Miley Stewart/Hannah Montana are not real people but Miley Cyrus real (a girl with big dreams before she got her big break) If it were all her imagination then she would be called Miley Cyrus in the show because the doll is named Miley Cyrus, not Hannah Montana or Miley Stewart hence "Miley Cyrus is a rockstar!" I hope this eases your mind.

I. myself, too thought that was kind of morbid, her fictional Mom(Brooke Shields in flashbacks) deceased, but her real mom Tish Cyrus, very much alive. Originally in earlier episodes Ryan Newman played young Miley, but by this time she had aged out of the role so Mary Charles Jones played her not only in this episode, but also, as I understand throughout the entire final season.

Okay this isn't an alternate ending to Hannah Montana. It's just a childhood memory of the actual Miley Cyrus. It was to reflect back on little Miley Cyrus on how she wanted to become famous and she did. This scene actually has nothing to do with Hannah Montana/Miley Stewart, the show itself. And the picture at the end is her being successful with her parents support. I see there is a lot of confusion regarding the alternate ending of Hannah Montana so I would like to clear them all -: 1. The young girl is Miley Cyrus and not Stewart. 2. The end said ''12 yrs ago'' and it was 2011, so 12 years ago means in 1999 and not 12 yrs before HM 3. HM ended in February 2011, Miley was 18 then. Which clearly means 12 years ago ,Miley Cyrus was 6 and she then wished to be a star. 4. Destiny Hope Cyrus was her real name and her nichname was miley which is short for smiley. They usedthe name MILEY CYRUS instead of DESTINY HOPE CYRUS because that was what everyone called her when she was young. This doesn't mean that the show was Cyrus' imagination. 5. Miley's wish to be a super star came true when she got the lead role in HM. 6. The end just wanted to tell that Miley CYRUS' and (fictional character ) Miley STEWART'S wish came true with HANNAH MONTANA !!! I wish that helps

I inquired about it on the Hannah Montana message board, and I asked who played young Miley, and they told me Mary Charles Jones. after I realized it may not be Miley's real sister as this girl seen is much smaller than her.

It’s actually a flashback to Mileys real life childhood. I think they never used it because viewers wouldn’t have understood it thinking that it was a dream. Billy Ray Cyrus is in talks of a Hannah Montana prequel of how his character created Hannah Montana for his daughter’s dream to come true but at the same time, live a normal life. Like he’s mentioned in the movie. The only reason why they created her in the first place is so she can still live a normal life
