Hannah Waddingham Becomes the Wicked Witch (part 1) - London | The Wizard of Oz

A few weeks ago, we witnessed Hannah Waddingham getting into her Miss Gulch makeup before a performance of The Wizard of Oz. In this latest exclusive video clip, we're back in Hannah's dressing room for the next stage of her night - as she becomes The Wicked Witch of the West! The Wizard of Oz is a musical based on the 1939 film The Wizard of Oz, with a book adapted by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Jeremy Sams. The musical uses the Harold Arlen and E. Y. Harburg songs from the film and includes some new songs and additional music by Andrew Lloyd Webber and additional lyrics by Tim Rice.
After previews in the West End from 7 February, the musical opened on 1 March 2011, directed by Jeremy Sams, and closed on 2 September 2012. The original cast included Danielle Hope as Dorothy Gale, Michael Crawford as the Wizard and Hannah Waddingham as the Wicked Witch of the West. Sophie Evans played Dorothy on Tuesday evenings and took over the role full-time in February 2012. The role of Dorothy was cast through the 2010 reality television show Over the Rainbow, in which Hope won and Evans was the runner-up. After a similar Canadian reality TV search show, a Toronto production began in December 2012 and closed in August 2013, and was followed by a North American tour.

@nyahrandom *doesnt change that she is wicked. Even in wicked, elphaba says "let it be known through all of oz, I'm wicked through and through..." she is evil. She isn't a martyr.

@nyahrandom no, she would not. Elphaba and the wicked witch are two different characters. The witch is not misunderstood she is just evil. That's what makes her the villain. We can choose to accept her backstory, but it doesn't change hat she is

the makeup artist explained that watercolour dosen't apply evenly on the nose and chin pieces and its easier to use the air brush to make them even lol

the makeup in wicked i think was once likened to tempra paint like i used when i was younger, usually in pallete form

What type of make up/air brush system are you using?

@disneydanny2 Because the paint is a thicker (?) silicone-based paint (rather than water based) so it blends well with the prosthetic nose and chin

In wicked elpie is PAINTED green which goes faster butntoo bad for Hannah the add ons tonher face were notbsuited for the paint and the brushes so they have to do it the hard way.....

@EntertainmentAddams the wcked make up takes around 20 minutes to apply, she needs to undergo the complete transformation in 7 minutes, there isnt enough time, and the water colour make up won't cover her prosthetic pieces anyway, the prosthetic just sucks up the colour
