I’m a nurse practitioner, the lady with the tube fed baby should be charged with child abuse. Her doctor completely dropped the ball by not using his mandated reporter status to report her to child services. There is no way on earth this was safe for this medically fragile child. I’m literally so furious I AM SCREAMING AT HER.

Also correct me if I'm wrong but isn't what she said a total lie? I was fed through my nose as a baby for a long while. I had a congenital hiatal hernia so I wasn't able to eat properly without immediately getting severe reflux. It was actually pretty life threatening as the reflux would often times end up choking me. My mom told me it was the cue that let my condition be known. I'd caugh because the reflux was going back down to my lungs whixh could've killed me over time. And after surgery I grew up fine. I have hunger cues. My hiatal hernia was found when I was 2 months old. So I hadn't been fed all that much to develop a routine is what I'm trying to say. I do have issues with food and displaying my feelings about food. But that's an entirely different can of worms. As I have autism, adhd and chronic gastritis on top of all the things I already described. So I tend to hide my feelings on food to either not disappoint others or because I express them differently than other people like my brother. I might be hungry but I don't always make that known to others type of expression. I think that lady added quite a bit of colour to the story to make it seem more beliavable to sell more.

@@nikitatavernitilitvynovait is very individual, it is true that a lot of tube baies don't display hunger cues and/or have oral aversion and don't want anything anywhere near their mouth. I have a tube baby and we are super lucky that our girl loves food but i am in many tubie spaces (facebook groups and such) and it really is very common. We were also warned about it when she was little and had to stimulate her mouth and stuff in order to try to prevent it. I think what happened is she gave the baby less milk (replaced by ketones) and the baby was starving and thus forced into eating. Not the way to get baby off of tube. Abusive and harmful and horrible.

@@LudmilaT.Can I ask.... surely the feed volume increases as they grow as in you wouldn't be giving the same feed volume to a 1mo as you would a 12mo? Maybe as his stomach slowly stretched with feed volume increases over time, it made him more hungry? Could that be the case because I'm convinced that's what happened but could be way off 😅 (ps if no one told you recently, you're a wonderful mum and your child/ren are lucky to have you, bestie) ❤ I have a child with a disability and it's so hard some days x

I’d just like to say I am a pediatric feeding therapist that regularly works with G-tube fed babies. Sometimes babies seem to develop an interest in food over night and other times it’s is slow progress. I have also seen parents put things in feeds that are not recommended by doctors/dietitians that cause harm to the children. It is not at all recommended to change anything about G-tube feedings with out professional approval. If one of my parents told me they did this I would instantly call their pediatrician. Okay rant over. I am ver passionate about helping tube fed babies eat.
@lux.illuminaughty
@lux.illuminaughty Жыл бұрын
That is not a rant my dear, that is just common sense and something everybody should know. And we all should be more involved and aware of the things going on in the lives of our neighbors, coworkers, etc., and say something when people are doing this kind of crap. We gotta stop holding back out of fear and being uncomfortable and get right up close and personal with reality. Everyone should care about what the family next door is feeding their kid, literally & figuratively.

I was a baby with a feeding tube. My parents have both talked about how nervous they were at the time that they’d do something wrong and accidentally kill me somehow. The idea of parents NOT being hyper vigilant about feeding tube instructions and just doing whatever is absolutely BIZARRE to us.

I have two tube fed kids (one is 10 and the other 12) and I 💯 agree with you. My son used to eat by mouth but won't any more. There are so many factors in why kids do or don't eat and why they may outgrow the need for a feeding tube. It's very likely her child would have followed the same timeline without the ketones. She never mentioned whether he was in feeding therapy, or any other therapies, that could have contributed to that as well.

I feel bad for anyone sucked into these tho. There was a couple times I got sucked into a MLM job interview. I was walking out of an office area. And I saw my friend walking in. We said hi. Then I’m like “where you going?” He goes “job interview” I say good luck. And then these 2 guys behind him tell me to come with. I’m like what? Are you sure that will be ok? They had me come up. It was a pyramid scheme. I exposed them to everyone and told them I was gonna tell the realtor what they were doing. They make a deposit saying they’re gonna use an office space and then use it for a couple days doing group interviews to look legit. Then say “oh never mind I found somewhere else” and get their deposit back

My sister has had a g-tube for over 20 years. This Pruvit rep makes me FURIOUS. Depending on the reason for a g-tube, some families may be able to have prescription formula sent to them, as is the case with my sister. If an insurance company does not approve the formula, families have to buy, prepare, and blend all of the food their loved one will consume. It can be incredibly expensive and is extremely time consuming. That's not even considering the fact that g-tubes require a lot of additional medical care and can create a lot of scary situations should ANYTHING go wrong. This rep insinuating that her product is the reason her child got off their g-tube is disgusting. These families are vulnerable- she has no right to take advantage of them.
@WhatTheFriedRice

Yeah this is really messed up. There is no evidence that orally ingesting this powder means that the chemical compound goes through the mothers entire gastrointestinal tract and all the chemical breakdowns and liver metabolism in order to them be stored in breast fat tissue in order for that in turn to be broken down into breast milk. That’s basic biology. Additionally things made for oral ingestion are not necessarily made for direct injection into the stomach. This is so incredibly irresponsible
@BewareTheLilyOfTheValley

Not just that, but the thing she's feeding her son is for weightloss. In my eyes, he's showing hunger cues because he's at a caloric deficient, so good job on her for halfway starving her child 😒

Best case scenario - the little genuinely got into a place where he didn’t need a g-tube, would’ve gotten there regardless of the ketone drink, and the fact that he’s had no adverse effects from taking in this drink is a sign that the product is useless garbage that does nothing but is sweet enough to appeal to a child… My brother is 27 and has a G-tube because of his genetic disorder. He had it put in place because he COULD NOT PHYSICALLY consume enough food and was so malnourished there were concerns that he could suffer refeeding syndrome. He was IV fed for a month through a picc line and couldn’t take in any food through the stomach while he healed. But sure - let’s put him on some mystery drink that’s designed to supposedly get your body burning off the food energy he worked so hard to be able to take in so he can “get off his g-tube” and starve faster. Sure.

Tbh I don't think she knows she's taking advantage of people. I think she is deep into the brainwashing bc she was vulnerable when her kid was in the NICU and attributed the good outcome to the ketone drink and genuinely thinks her child wouldn't have survived without it. I have some family members who developed really bad habits and beliefs (not mlm related but similar fake health stuff) as a response to trauma and, at least in their case, they genuinely believe in the stuff and probably won't ever stop believing

As a small business owner, one of the best advice my grandfather gave me was to know when to quit. If you stick with something no matter what, even when it’s massively failing and tanking you, your business is not going to survive. To clarify, this is completely different than pushing through the the slow times. Especially at the beginning, when for 90% of business startups take money before they make money. And on the different side of the coin, bouncing from “new business!” to “new business!” every few months will alienate your customer base and push people away. Hence: know when to quit!

Your customers don't even pay you. They pay the company, and the company pays you. You may have your own corporation on paper for tax purposes, but you are NOT an entrepreneur. Thus why you push formula and push mothers into have too many interventions while giving birth and push dangerous shots (with black box labels) that babies do not need. I have no idea about ketones but you being a nurse gives you zero pull. Most of the things nurses do to new babies is sickening and mind blowing. Before you say it, I’m very anti-mlm but I’m also very anti-“healthcare” workers sticking their noses where they don’t belong.

I HATE the ketone baby story. UGH! No! There is so much wrong there! Your baby was just growing and developing! Also, I’m pregnant, and I’ve been told not to increase my ketones because it’s not good for baby. I’ve also been told it’s not a good idea to do while breastfeeding because your body uses glucose to produce milk, not ketones! So if anything it won’t help your milk production or quality to be in ketosis while breastfeeding.

My only real MLM experience was with an MLM called ‘juices plus’. My mum had a friend who sold it and got roped in to buying a bunch of the products. I’m not sure if she ever became a rep but when I had my daughter she had severe eczema (constant infections that could be deadly, she was a miserable baby, unable to move, wrapped in wet bandages 24/7, she was on medication intended for people that have had organ transplants to try and calm it down!) and my mum and this woman tried to convince me to take my daughter off all her medications as ‘juice plus’ was going to save her and cure her severe eczema. Thankfully I know better, but it was so sad to see someone try prey on me and my daughter in such a hard, vulnerable time especially since those medications could of been life saving. It made me feel so disgusted that one day they might prey on someone who doesn’t know any better and just wants a miracle and it ends up in tragic..

I'm only assuming how the conversation went with the RD or MD managing the G-tube feeds when she told them she was adding Pruvit ketones to the feeds... MDs need to tell patients/parents worse case scenarios of diagnoses which would be that a prematurely born child might not recognize hunger cues or have dysphagia due to neurological delays or a variety of other diagnostically based reasons. In my job I work with parents of premature babies utilizing G-tubes often. If there aren't other certain diagnoses they often start eating orally as they progress and "catch up" developmentally. So frustrating to see this health claim and preying on parents of tube fed children...
@iratakeuchi3031
@iratakeuchi3031 Жыл бұрын
I’m in the NICU a lot for my job and while I’m not a nurse or doctor or PA, I can positively say that it is fairly common for babies who have low birth weight or are born early to be tube fed but go on to have normal feeding within a few months of returning home unless they have other health issues or genetic disorders. This mother spreading misinformation about her baby being so sick and not being able to show hunger cues EVER is a blatant lie. Her baby not having the “brain body connection” because he’s been tube fed since he was born is NOT a reason. A baby may have other disorders which could cause that, but an NG tube is not it. I’m going to guess the doctor said that there will be an adjustment period for the baby to learn how to ask for food because of the ng tube, but I highly doubt that was a lifelong thing. Also if the doctors know about the ketones being given to a premie, I’m pretty sure they’re mandated to report her to CPS. So for her sake, I hope that baby doesn’t have to go to the ED at any point.

Wow... to credit ketones with her son's medical progress is so dangerous. I'm also sure that she is leaving out feeding therapy (and potentially other therapies too). It is highly likely her son is/was in feeding therapy as most tube feed kids are for a significant amount of time to try to get them off of tube feeds. That medical team support absolutely had nothing to do with her son's progress.

I'm glad you mentioned that MLM reps are basically sales people, I've been thinking that for ages. My husband's brother has a financial advice business, and he told us 95% of sales people in that field don't manage to make a decent living out of it. It's a case of training loads of guys and losing most of them, but the small percentage that do make it bring all of the revenues of the business. The others, he gently invites to leave as he doesn't like for them to be miserable in their job. And that's a legitimate business. Not an MLM where everything is stacked against you and you can't make it unless you're ruthless and got in early enough.

The ketones thing makes me soooo frustrated because they take those pee tests to “prove” its working. Not realising that they’re drinking ketones..not producing ketones.. Your body can produce ketones when it goes into ketosis, and you can pee test to see those ketones. Or you can drink them and they filter right through your body and show on the test.. Your body didn’t enter a state of ketosis to produce those ketones, you just mixed them into your water and they went through you like anything else. Sooooo frustrating! haha

I plan on sending you my own horror story about the three BODi (known as Beachbody at the time) huns who sent me the exact same "hey girl" message and wouldn't leave me alone, which lead to me deleting my Instagram account. I think they originally wanted to recruit me because I had photos and videos of me running because I was on my school's cross country and track teams. The worse part about it is that two of them read posts I made about my life as a young autistic woman and tried to make me join and use it to attempt to recruit other autistic people.

Ew. And definitely a misfire. Autistic people are disproportionately allergic to BS (and if it doesn't look like that all the time it's because NTs work so damn hard to manipulate us into believing that we're basically less than human, which amounts to heavy-duty gaslighting). So unless you search the alt-right or Aspie supremacist sites, you're not going to find a particularly large supply of autistic BS-pushers (and note that a lot of those autistic BS groups are disproportionately cis white men, and thus there are more illusory Band-Aids that society can sell to them than they do to women - so if you want to rope autistic people into a scam, your best bet is to become a crypto bro).

I posted about running my first half marathon years ago and shortly thereafter got a 'hey girl' from a high school friend asking me if I wanted to join her bootcamp. It's so predatory and unethical (extra yikes about exploiting your autism to try to recruit you, ew).

Re: inventory loading of ketones (I haven't seen anyone say this in the comments, but it might be here) the reps are encouraged to put together packs to sell to people to try. So they inventory load in order (theoretically or actually) to then sell on to potential or 'retail' clients. I don't know if they charge more, but obviously they often need to ship. I saw one rep who did large mail outs daily because she had such a following on Instagram. And so if you follow your upline, the inventory loading is part of the grift, because *of course* you'll sell them. Right? ....Right?

A funny story about having a ridiculous amount of something. Both my mom and I have ADHD - I'm diagnosed, she's not (but my behaviours come from her). We have had 3 year supplies of something a few times. Vinegar, BBQ sauce, and noodles are the ones I remember off the top of my head. You may be thinking - how in the world?? Well, my mom would forget we already had a large jug of vinegar, or a bottle of BBQ sauce, or noodles already. So, while grocery shopping, she'd see one of those things and buy another jug/bottle/bag of whatever it was. She'd come home, we'd go to put groceries away, and be faced with 2/3/4/5 of those items already. It never happened all at once, it was always one specific item at a time for a few months that her brain would be stuck on. Luckily, it was all items with an indefinite or very long shelf life, so we did manage to either use up all of it (eventually) or gave some away to family and friends. This is something my mom passed to me - my current thing? Spaghetti sauce. I keep forgetting how much we have and we now have 10 jars. Luckily, we eat spaghetti/things with spaghetti sauce often so it won't go to waste.
