I dislike how everyone in the comments has something negative to say. Yes I agree the horses and rider have flaws like the fresian is not entirely engaged and behind the vertical at some points but in Australia we have such a high priced horse market and a unbroken mix would sell for 5k so the pricing we are being shown is fair. Love the videos keep it up 👍

What? You're saying a grade horse (not registered) that isn't started under saddle is 5k in Australia? Is there a shortage of horses there? That amazes me. My first horse in 1978 was 350 USD. In 1978 I also bought a registered AQHA yearling gelding for $2000 and then paid probably at least that much for training on him. But you can buy a horse pretty often for under $500 even now. Some would be unstarted or green. But others may be decent trail horses or even fairly well-trained if they're older. The only horses that are hard to find are quiet horses for beginners.

A Friesian horse is very hard to ride low and round with their nose out. They are bred to be carriage horses and tend to tuck their nose in naturally. It takes a lot of time and training to teach them otherwise. But wow 100000 for a Friesian stallion, shocks me a bit even if it is one on the other side of the world.

In my experience, it is more about the training than the horse itself. Some breeds are worth more than others out of the gate, but you can find a well made, useful horse without spending a fortune, and making it yourself is what its all about.
@lilacollamore4510
@lilacollamore4510 2 жыл бұрын
Horse price depends on age, training (and whether the training was correct or incorrect), natural ability of the animal (related to the job intended for) and whether there are any soundness, physical, or behavioral issues. There are also variations due to breed (imported breeds more expensive than native breeds), color (black tends to be more expensive), and discipline. If breeding stock, stallions are more expensive. As an example of variability, one 4-year-old green-broke gelding was sold at a breed sale for $500 and then resold 3 days later at an Amish sale for $5700. Why the difference? He was a nice horse but didn't have the "look" and size that buyers were looking for for a show horse in the first sale, but he was a young, sound, good-looking, willing horse with no faults which made him a desireable horse in the Amish sale. Another example, a baby from one of my horses sold for $500 as an unbroke youngster. His buyer trained him as a jumper and he would romp through a 4' course with a clear round and the fastest time--infuriating all the other competitors that had spent tens of thousands on their expensive warmbloods. So with all these variables, I think this video does a good job of showing the differences that might apply in her chosen area.

WOW! What a fun day-just re-watched this and I do think North America has hacks, but I’m not sure it’s the same as in Australia. Here, the Hack Division is all flat work, and judged in 3 different classes to make up a division-Pleasure Hack, Road Hack and Show Hack. I’ve shown many clients horses in these over the years and it’s a lot of fun when bringing along young/green horses. Gives them show exposure. I’m watching you on the fresian and laughing at your comment on the extended trot. I did this on just a 4th level horse and was blown away, I can’t imagine how it would feel on a GP horse!
@erikasturaro9521

Friesians do not like to hold themselves btv, no horse does, it's just a way of escaping pressure. In fact as soon as you got on the horse and moving, he asked you to give a bit more rein, but you kept your hand steady, holding him btv. As a result he is not engaging the hinds and back correctly. While the first horse was clearly trained way better, you had contact but he was otv and relaxed.
@HannahLucyequestrian
@HannahLucyequestrian 2 жыл бұрын
How many friesians have you ridden? I can guarantee they are different to other breeds in how they hold themselves. Before I trained my half friesian to go into the contact more (by using MORE contact) he would hold himself btv on a totally loose rein. As for my riding, it’s all about feel, I know what I felt in my hand and that was an even contact with the mouth, and the friesian and second horse had the least amount of contact with the bit. The first horse was the most comfortable to take a firmer contact with the bit, where the friesian was a lot lighter in the mouth so I had to take more contact so there was some level of contact with the mouth. Not all horses are the same. It’s also very difficult to tell how BTV a horse is when you’re riding it - I would have corrected him more had I been able see him from the ground. It’s a work in progress with this horse to get him more into the bridle (this is also what his normal very experienced GP rider stated)
@erikasturaro9521
@erikasturaro9521 2 жыл бұрын
@@HannahLucyequestrian the friesian was lighter in the mouth because he was escaping your tight contact…also, if that is what a GP horse trained by a professional looks like, then it is a clear example of how shit dressage has become. I don’t know what level of experience you have riding, but you said it yourself, you were with a professional rider, but did he not tell you to give a bit more with your hands? Guess not, as one of your comments while cantering on the friesian was that you should have shortened the reins MORE.
@HannahLucyequestrian

@@erikasturaro9521 Where are your instructional dressage videos??? I’ve been taught by many professionals and olympians in my time (albeit mainly in eventing and jumping) You can’t be perfect. I’d never ridden this horse before and it was 30mins for this specific video. The main idea was to show people what he can do with the higher level stuff. He was telling me to give a bit when he became to BTV but like I said, Jurra likes being BTV and not into the contact like that. Not all horses are perfect, even 100k ones. You can also see as he gets more forward at the end he comes far more into the bridle, stops sucking back behind the bit and comes more correct into the contact. Yes I did need to shorten my reins more but then give more forward with my hands. You can see this back on video and hindsight but it wasn’t really a full lesson I was having on this horse - his rider is a friend of a friens

Interesting video. Would be fascinating to see more horses in the same price ranges to get a better idea of the Australian market. Price wise I would've had the first two the other way around LOL however both have very short strides and cary themselves naturally very much on the forehand with zero suspension. Would look for better in a TB, those gems are out there and for sure in Australia where nice long lined but well coupled TBs are still found. Definately the friesian breed for dressage is not everyone's cup of tea, it's very much a niche market. I think in America for example he would sell well as he is GP and the breed is more popular. At that size that price is probably still a bit of an ask elsewhere. You could absolutely import a bigger younger one for far less even into Australia, that's not to say it would be better but for a friesian fan who knows. The Friesen has problems with conformation, many dippy backs, odd croups and heads, whacky characters. This one is certainly pretty far as that goes. What you see winning breed shows in NL is an eye opener, the gene pool needs some broadening and rather urgently with more emphasis on solid toplines and frames. IMO but of course.

When I first got into horses in 1977, Arabians were hot, but only mares and fillies. I regularly saw contracts for unborn foals where the price was $500 if a colt and $5000 if a filly. I considered that a warning sign because in quarter horses, geldings often sell for more than mares because they're using horses.

Get out! I’ve only met a few polish arabs-most of them are Egyptian . The one we had at our barn was….special. :D I loved her , she was a great schoolie, but you had to read her sign on her door about no cross ties and gentle brushing. They actually had a tally at camp for her--of how many councillors and those in training she bit when they didn’t brush her gently or do up her girth slowly. Never bit me because I understood her quirks. Really miss her.

I found my Arab in a add for pipe corral, fencing Arab colt 500.. the lady has been a breeder of Arabs and decided to sell all her horses … so the Arab colt and mother were the last to go… i Fell in love with the colt he was about 9 months old.. i went out 3 times because she wanted to pick the right person o4 basically she wanted the colt to pick.. he ran to me every time.. and followed me.. so I was picked before he was even 2 he had the most amazing trot and was stunning …. And i had an offer of 10,000 which of course I turned down.. and he became my forever horse and best friend….. WE HAD THE MOST AMAZING RELATIONSHIP.. My first horse was also an Arab, aren't they amazing when you bond with them! He was $550 and I was 14 years old. I got my first job so I could pay for his keep. I had him for the rest of his years and he was the most gentle, loving creature I'd ever known at that point in my life. Now I'm in my 40's and my current horse is equally as precious and loved. I consider them both to be my heart horses so I honestly hope you find yours. you said you have trouble cantering and what i can see is that you are quite stiff in the hip. try it out (that helped me) trot on and then stand in the stirrups. stick your butt out backwards and then wiggle to the right or left with every step. do this for 3 or 4 minutes, then sit back down and start cantering. if your gallop feels different then it helps. then do that for 2 or 3 weeks before you canter. after that you should be able to manage without it and if it gets worse again, just play the waddling duck on the horse again. hope it helps you as much as me

shows once more that it depends on the rider and the amount of work put into the rider-horse-relationship and schooling what you get out of it. Of any sane and wholesome horse lets say. Its not about whose horse was more expensive. Met guys who did not even know what a lead change is and PUNISHED their own (expensive and well trained new) horse for doing one - as a result of them bobbing around in the saddle. But talking about MY horse as a cheap thing from the horse market (would not have been able to ride him straight along the fence). The most expensive horse with a bad rider can do nothing while a ambitious and understanding person, willing to learn, can achieve great things with any road side pony. Myself, I'd always chose an off track TB like the 2 here before a frisian, I somehow do not like friesians. Sorry its just like it is for me. What the frisian here does are lessons of high dressage and they come from a proficient trainer not from the horse having been expensive in the purchase. Annnd if you have not learned to ride those lessons you are lost, too.

And those horses are very often fantastic riding horses, they often know how to do a bit of everything as they are sometimes former lesson horses or elderly competition horses. And they are fantastic for trail riding and do a bit of jumping, dressage or whatever you want ... Also are french horse Jappeloup, cheap when he was young ... won olympic gold a few years later ! So there is a bit of gold in every horse, you just have to know how to find it 🐴

Jurre is beautiful but not worth 100.000 I think. That's just crazy and I think the price for a Frisian outside of the Netherlands. Frisians do hold themselves high like this, I have ridden one so yes its a thing they do. They become too short and you always have to work on elongating the neck and uncurling them. I would not shorten your reigns I would give him more. The 10.000 horse wouldn't cost as much in Europe. FOR 10.000 you can get a good KWPN or Selle-Francais. The 1000 horse seems very cheap and a great deal! All three are lovely though!

I can understand the breed has a lot to do with the price someone is willing to pay for a horse (or dog, cat, etc.), but it's still "Supply & Demand." A thousand dollar horse is still a thousand dollar horse, no matter how much training it's had riding around in an arena, if that's all what people are willing to pay when they don't expect a big return on their investment... If they do, then they'll be willing to pay more for the breed and QUALITY of the HORSE they expect to bring in that reward, which can be from show or event ribbons, or cash purses, and stud fees... Don't count on becoming a reputable horse dealer by selling a thousand dollar horse for ten grand or a hundred grand, because of it's "magical dressage training." And, just because it's a "Friesian" doesn't mean it's going to be worth this huge amount because they're trained in dressage, as just about ANY horse can do it... They were used as draft horses to pull wagons on farms back in the day, and are still used to pull hearses for the funeral industry in the UK... They are still known for their exceptional natural trot, and used for driving (pulling carts or wagons) competitions, as well as for pleasure and trail riding... Very few are worth $100,000, and if it is, that's from it's selected breeding, high evaluation and ranking in the closed studbook, not because it's well trained in dressage.

The vertical problem is because of their long neck. But he's not worht 100000$. I see many friesians in the netherlands and have to say that your friesian is very small, because they have to be at least 1,60. A friesian star sports mare or stallion cost about 20 to 30000$ and if yhey are crown, much better then star, they are more expensif and the most expensif are the models. But 100000 is very much. If you watch some inspections from FEI or royal friesian horses on KZbin you will see stallions who are 10 times more beautiful than yours. The second one has a normal price, but the first one is a real deal. I should buy that one for 1000$. He's worth much more, i think. I'm sorry, but i follow: friesian horses and there they are breeding about 25 friesians. They have already 4 or 5 crownmares but not yet a model. They have also somones in Z level. There you can see realy beautiful friesians. Most riders say the friesians are so much confortable, much essyer than other horses. When the friesians are in extended trot they are like flooting in the air with their typical natural high level knees. So special. 💞👍

I have even the name of one particular stable where they are specialised in selling and export. I think that australia is to hot for friesians, i don't know. Also don't know the market over there. The rider just plays with the reins too much and too visibly and it bothers the horses a-lot, even tho the Frisian came btv if this is a grand pri horse that shouldn’t happen (should have been taught self-carriage), the horse had no back engagement (maybe a little bit of a tuck in the pelvis but that would show in the back) whatsoever and the rider was pulling WAY too much, especially with the fresian, the owner/trainer should have corrected that immediately but he didn’t and that just shows how the horse was trained. In my opinion not wort a single penny of that 100,000$ as you would soon have a ruined horse that would be expensive to maintain.
@HannahLucyequestrian
@HannahLucyequestrian 2 жыл бұрын
As I was actually the one holding the reins I know I actually had a very VERY light contact lol - if I was any lighter at all I’d have had a loop in the reins and no contact at all. Like stated in the video, horses like friesians come BTV because they’re often like that into the contact, and they quite like sitting like that. Do you know how you get them to stop doing that? By getting them to take the contact more firmly into their mouth, by having contact with the mouth. Do you have much of a background in dressage? Because you do need a contact with the mouth in order to do higher level movements (as stated in the video) ✌🏼
@cokoladnekokice904
@cokoladnekokice904 2 жыл бұрын
@@HannahLucyequestrian you need self-carriage, you need to have a horse strong enough to hold itself and the rider for extended periods of time with loose reins without falling on the forehand. The overdeveloped neck tells you that he was ridden btv and not done anything to fix it. That horse is worth 50k max in my eyes as not trained to be sustained correctly. Riding btv ruins a horse in the long run and I see it too often in grand prix horses as they go to retirement at only 15/19 as they can without a problem go to a comfortable retirement at 25 or more
@cokoladnekokice904
@cokoladnekokice904 2 жыл бұрын
@@HannahLucyequestrian contact is of course needed but there isn’t contact when the horse goes btv. No matter how sensitive the horse is the rider/trainer needs to work on the horse and get them correct. It would be another thing if it were a green horse but if it’s foundation is crappy, the whole building isn’t meant to last for long.
@HannahLucyequestrian
@HannahLucyequestrian 2 жыл бұрын
@@cokoladnekokice904 This is why we aren’t trying to ride him BTV - we’re trying to push him into the contact and release the contact in a way which promotes him coming more forward with his nose (as I really tried to explain in the video multiple times) he’s relatively new to gp in the scheme of things so he likely reverts to what’s comfortable for him when he’s doing the higher level stuff. He has brilliant self carriage when I gave away the reins in the more basic movements, however when doing lateral and other more advance level movements that’s when he came more BTV - because again, he’s more comfortable there rather than taking his nose more forward. You can’t expect a horse built like this to be perfect in the contact the entire time even while doing higher level stuff while he’s still relatively green to some of them
@cokoladnekokice904
@cokoladnekokice904 2 жыл бұрын
@@HannahLucyequestrian wdym push him? I completely understand what you are saying but doing nothing to actually make it happen (as i said before, constantly playing with the reins was really just bothering the horse)? Would really like to se a video of him being over the vertical as I watched the ride again and saw NO back engagement and the horse tucking his back legs underneath. Self carriage isn’t only the head, it’s engaging the back, engaging the belly and moving that weight on his back legs. But if you said that he is a green horse that’s fine then ig🤷‍♀️. Would love to actually know if they do dressage in hand with him as I see it especially beneficial if he actually moves correctly in the basic movements.
