Lovely video! I’ve been using cloth diapers for over 3 years now and I love theme! I do a couple of things different then you that may be useful for other mama ☺️ 1. I don’t what’s multiple time a new diaper. Just one what’s and then is good to go. You just need to know that is not gonna be at is full absorbency from the beginning, so you wanna use it when you don’t need a huge absorbency (like at home or in the afternoon) 2. You can wash your diaper together with the rest of you laundry, and this is the most sustainable way to wash them. Just start with the diapers only and run a quick rinse with no soap, like 10/15 minute, then add the rest of the laundry and run you full w hashing program 3. Pocket diaper are not the best solution for nighttime. Fitted diapers or flat diapers may be more efficient 😘 Hope this is helpful! ❤️ Sara

Thank you for this video! I don't have kids yet, but my husband and I want to start next year, and I'm doing my research now. Your content is so detailed, and I love that you don't have a fancy "styled" background full of props. It just looks and feels like I'm sitting in the living room with a friend, talking, with the cats nearby. Love it!

I joined a fb cloth diaper group when my son was born and learned some really cool tips! One of my favorites was that you can use flour sack towels as a soaker pad! My cloth diapers were like your bum genius ones with the soaker pads in the insert. I fell in love with the flour sack towels bc they're thinner than the soaker pad, but they were more absorbent. It's nice when you're child becomes mobile to have thinner pads, but yet are more absorbent. Thank you for all your tips! Especially with pulling the sides up to close the leg gap! I will definitely be using that for future babies. And BTW, I'm glad your cats joined you for the video 😄❤️

I have cloth diapered for almost 3 years now and when we are out and about when I put a cloth diaper Into the diaper bag I also stuff a cloth wipe into the diaper so I have it right there to use and I bring a small little spray bottle with the solution. I also bought a travel wipes container and keep extra cloth wipes in that for extra messy changes!

Cloth wipes out and about: It seems like a lot of people use the on-the-go wipe dispenser from Skip Hop or mini wet bags (like the clutch bag from Thirsties ) for storage. Also, I have heard that if you boil the water up front and pour it over the wipes, they remain ready-for-use for a couple of days. With the wipe dispenser you can even recreate the convenience of being able to just pull out one wipe after the other by folding the cloth wipes in half and then laying one half of the wipe into the next half-folded one... like a zig-zag. In order to find the most absorbent inserts and fitted diapers for nighttime I would recommend looking for absorbency lists online... usually Geffen Baby hemp products make it to the top of the list. We loved cloth diapers!!! For extra protection at night, we loved the charcoal bamboo pads. Never had a leaky diaper at night with those and we only needed one pad per diaper. I'm sure you're already doing this, but we didn't learn it until later on so I want to share it with other mamas. When you are putting on the diaper, make sure you are tucking the leg areas all the way into the leg crease! This will help with some leaky probables too. You want it to fit nice and snug like underwear ☺️

Love this. All solid points. Cloth diapered my boys...one big tip!! Make sure your natural fiber cloth diapers don't get eaten by moths. In the summer I would hang the diapers in our house to dry. The moths then laid their larvae in the fibers of the diaper and ate the fabric. Once I started to catch on I put the diapers in the dryer to get rid of them but out came handfuls lint and a ruined stash. No sight of little larvae just a moth here and there.

Few tips/ important points: you can wash diapers together with other stuff since all the poop is already out in the pre wash, but it is important to also rinse once again in tbeend to get rid of any residue of detergent. Also it is important what the pads are made of: bamboo and hemp are the ones that soaks up more and microfibre soaks up faster, soit is good to pear the2

When we had our first we were in a tiny apartment and shared a simple washer with the whole floor for the first year. We found out our city had two companies that would drop off cloth diapers and pick up/clean the old ones every week! It was only slightly less money then traditional diapers, but worth it for all the waste we saved. We also kept it simple and would use disposables for long trips out of the house or traveling, both which we just didn't do often with our lifestyle. Worked like a dream.

I LOVED cloth diapering my three babies. I used so many brands (even made my own!! which was cool), but my favorite way to diaper de-evolved to “trifold” and “fitted” organic cotton and bamboo cloth diapers from Green Mountain Diapers. They are just straight up old fashioned cotton diapers - the trifold you would fold and fasten into place, the fitted looks just like a diaper but it’s all cloth and you fasten it at the tabs. Then I’d used a Thirsties PUL cover over top. I’d fasten the cloth diapers with a “Snappi.” I used wool covers at night and sometimes during the day, and the Thirsties covers during the day. It is so old school but it was cheap and super effective and so stinking cute, especially the wool covers!! Never had any leaks. I highly recommend you check out these brands and this way of diapering. Oh! And this system so easy to launder. In fact, you can reuse the covers a couple times so long as they aren’t soiled. Just toss the cloth diaper into the bucket, replace with a fresh one and reuse the cover! I like pocket diapers but they start to smell over time whereas the cotton/bamboo cloth diapers and the covers never did, because there wasn’t a polyester lining between bum and absorbent pad, which is the stinky culprit! Lol! Using wool covers is a whole new world. You can reuse the cover over and over because wool doesn’t absorb smell and bacteria. You wash it every once in awhile with wool soap, lay flat to dry. I would toss my few wool covers into my laundry machine on the hand wash setting on the smallest load and let my machine do all the work. Anyway, that was a lot. Sorry! I actually have some cloth diapering content on my old KZbin channel you can check out.

When i travel with my kids, i use reusable wipes! I used to use a swing top jar with pre wet wipes and just throw that in yge diaper bag. I have recently switched though to a spray i make with water, jojoba oil, and some essential oils, like tea tree, lavender and sometimes frankincense. And i put that in a spray bottle and take dry wipes with ne and just shake the bottle and spray that directly on baby's diaper area and wipe with a dry wipe! I like this new way better because the jojoba oil is soo good on their skin!

I’ve cloth diapered my now 11 year old, my 5 year old, and am now expecting another ❤️ and I was searching for new nappies on the market as I love most of what we have, but as the majority we’re used when we bought them, we had to Chuck some due to the pul not being so great when we bought, but had to make due because of financial reasons (store them in a pillowcase then in a plastic tote and the PUL should be fine. We have 6 lil joeys that we bought used when I was pregnant for my last child and they are still like new!) but I wanted to see if there was anything else out there that I could replace ones I had to dispose of and stumbled on this video. I usually find it incredibly difficult to stay and watch a whole video because people like to talk to the camera as if they’re being interviewed, but I absolutely love your personality, you’re adorable and you know how to keep people interested in what you have to say! Kinda making me want to spend some money on a bum genius or 2 😂 I would like to add one thing though, washing new nappies 6 times isn’t always necessary. Apparently it’s better to do shorter uses between washes, so it still gets used between washes, but has the chance to get those extra washes sooner. I hope I explained that coherently 😅

We cloth diaper too!! I find that microfiber inserts aren't super great they absorb quickly but don't hold as much as bamboo or hemp. So i put a microfiber ontop and hemp on the bottom and that holds REALLY well even at night time and he's not quite as bulky. But i do put in an extra hemp or bamboo insert at night just so there's more "storage" 😅

Hey! We are using cloth diapers from the beginning and I love it aswell! My baby is like half a year older than Cosmo I think. At the moment we are using disposable diapers for the night because the cloth diapers were always so full and leaking and I could not fit more stuffing in it.. And a Tip for out and about: I always have a wetbag ready with prestuffed diaper and some reusable wipes and I have always a water drinking bottle with me when I am outside. So when I need to use the wipes I make them wet with my drinking water and just put them in the wetbag with the diaper! And I think I have an answer for the bumgenius working way.. I know other Brands who work like this aswell and they do it from sustainable reasons. Because they just produce exactly the products wich are wanted and needed! And dont overproduce wich is actualy great I think. Of course it takes longer for the customer but especialy in the cloth diaper game it make sense I think. Aswell with the reparing, so this exact diaper is not wasted. But I totaly get the point with "I dont have time". Oh and hemp inlays can take much more Liquid but also because of this they need longer to dry. Wishing you and everyone much fun with the diapers! 🤗

Tip for cloth diapers: I had a special color of wipes and a travel sized sprayer and those were used for just the diaper bag. I wasn’t vegan when my boys were clothes diapers so I used wool shorts 🩳 covers and it kept them dry at night with their cloth diapers. Not sure if there is a synthetic wool version but might be worth looking into because it was a huge game changer. Skinny legged babies are so tricky to cloth diaper. Thankfully there are a lot more options then there were almost 14 years ago when I diapered my oldest who was/ is super skinny and LONG! So many blow outs! 🤦‍♀️

Our daughter was born in feb 2021. I had cloth diapers on my registry but only one person was willing to get a pack for us. I got the rest w my stimulus money. We have 6 sets of 6. That is more than enough to change frequently and wash twice per week. I got pocket diapers and invested in extra absorbant bamboo soaker pads. We started around 6 weeks when we ran out of the disposable newborn diapers we were gifted. They have worked great and I swear that we haven't had any blow outs in the cloth but we constantly have them in the disposable ones. Yes you will need bigger sized clothing to accommodate the puffy butt from the cloth diapers.

I use cloth nappies too but I'm so curious about the plastic thing? We personally use cloth to reduce waste and obviously different people will have different reasons but... you do realise the waterproof layer on those brands is plastic, right? The fabric is coated with a super thin layer of plastic. So your baby is still using a plastic nappy. If you don't want them in plastic, wool covers over fitteds or flats are a great option!

Agree to use bumGenius at night, especially when baby is older and rolls over onto their belly at night. Cloth diapers are awesome. I cloth diapered for three babies and if we have any more I’ll do it again. A few things- 1. Boys and girls fit differently. I had way more leak problems with my boy and I’m pretty sure that’s just anatomy. 2. Just recently found out that “flushable” diaper liners are not septic safe (😭). 3. Reusable wipes are soooooo easy, I spray the cloths as I use them (also amazing for going out! Pack dry wipes and a mini spry bottle with wipe solution) because I found they felt gross if they set in the solution for too long. 4. You do need to buy a separate set of newborn diapers. My babies are +8lbs when born and they stay in the newborn diapers for 3-4 months and then the all-in-ones fit just fine. 5. Oh and prefolds are a cheaper route to go if you have limited funds to start with and if you have absolutely NO money even old cotton t-shirts will do the trick. 6. Bonus- all of my kids potty train before they turn 2 and we accredit it to the cloth diapers because they can still feel when they poop or pee and let’s be honest- having wet cloth next on your bum even for a minute is not comfy and it’s a good motivator to use the potty 😉

I have dabbled in cloth diapers on and off over the years (5 kids ages 3 to 18). When my youngest 2 were both in diapers I used cloth for them when we had financial difficulties. It was awesome. I only stopped because my older potty trained and the younger was too big (he was 42lbs at the time, currently 50lbs). If I had a cloth diaper that fit a large baby, I would have continued.

If I’m packing his bag for the sitter I’ll put a small spray bottle of it in the bag and have them wet the wipe with plain water but if I’m going somewhere actually out and about, I’ll just put a few wipes in a reusable baggie and have my spray bottle handy for some extra liquid if needed.

I also cloth diaper my baby since she was a month old. Its fun yet challenging. I spent around 70$ 15 of them are fitteds the others are pockets. I have 27 stash. ☺️ Others were gifts thats why i spent that much only. We saved so much money

For the reusable wipes on the go: we bring a water bottle with a wide mouth to either dunk the wipe in or pour it over and ring it out over. We have a wet bag to put the rags in after. I don’t find they stain at all with breastmilk poop. My daughter’s bum is super sensitive to disposable wipes, so we can only use reusable wipes and it’s been no hassle so far!

I personnaly use for my son for 3 years pocket diaper but with 2 opening so it mean in the washer the insert come out by their own. The openings are in the front and in the back. Best thing ever, the two brand I know who do that model are la petite ourse ( canadian brand) and happy flute.

I'm new to the cloth nappy world and I'm a bit overwhelmed. There are many different types, many different things to know... I feel I need a 2 hour lesson to get my head around exactly what to do and how?? Idk. Anyway, I'm convinced I'm going to use cloth nappies no matter how much it costs me 😅

I bought Bumgenius second-hand and I think that I would’ve had a better experience if I bought them new. I didn’t like them because my baby was pretty chubby at that time and the crotch was a tad too thick for his thighs. I loved some of their prints though and I never experienced leaks either. I’m interested in Grovia one buttah for the newborn stage (currently expecting).

It's worth checking out the Clean Cloth Nappies website. Your routine looks pretty good. But you want to make sure your prewash is at least one hour. And you should be filling your machine with other small items for your mainwash to make sure that your washing machine is loaded correctly for proper agitation. There's lots of other important info on their website too :)

You might want to invest in some hemp inserts or flats to stuff your bum genius pockets or your Thirties cover, especially for night time. They are the most trim and absorbent insert, they will make a huge difference. I don’t know why companies still use microfiber (which is plastic) Thirsties has great inserts :)

You can use a tupper box to transport reusable wet wipes on the go. I prefer them 100% over disposable ones cause they are so much thicker. Little disclaimer (not sure if you are aware): cloth diapers are made from plastic, otherwise they would not be leak proof so it's a bit misleading saying "you don't want your baby in plastic" ;)

Cotton babies (who makes bumgenius) has changed so much over the years! They used to have tons of diapers and they flew off the shelves! They have slowed down quite a bit. They are still my favorite for fit but I love switching out the inserts to the thirsties inserts (cotton doublers and the hemp inserts). They are not microfiber like the ones that bumgenuis comes with plus the thirsties are super absorbent! And just a tip: the bumgenuis don't need to be washed 6 times before use since they are synthetic materials (the microfiber inserts and the micro suede) . Only the natural fiber ones (cotton, hemp, bamboo) need to be washed 6 times because of the oils from the natural fibers.

No offense, but since I have been using Bungenius for quite a while I have some things to point out: you dont need to wash microfiber diapers like Bumgenius pockets 6 times, one is enough (check out the label ;)), also, they have AIOs, not only pockets could have mentioned that as well. And the small inserts is for newborns only..

I was all set to love cloth diapers but actually, it didn't work for us at all - having the washing machine on for 4hrs/day every other day actually cost us more than buying a big pack of disposables that'd last us a week. Glad it's working out for you though :)

If I got it correctly, their business model is to produce only after they got the order to avoid overproduction, which is more sustainable. However, if it's a big company and they have so many customers they don't need to do that I think, they'll find someone to sell it to.
