@@HannaHsOverInvested that's not true. The 1st game NEVER tried to be serious, they probably were refering to the trailer. If you don't know, Dead Island trailer (it was released around 2008-10, something like that) opened a HUGE can of worms because, esentially, we watch how a child dies (tho it's made in the most awesome/emotionally way). It's really sad, and intense and really impactful. So, again, this trailer opened the can of worms of violence against children on gaming (which, tbh, very few games allows any violence to children). There were MANY conversations against/pro with that and the studio got SO much backlash that the devs were afraid to show ANY children on the game so, after that trailer they literally erased ALL children from the game and they were replaced by adults (which it was... a choice, but that explains why some characters act in such a bizarre way). Anyhow, the trailer of the game were 100% misleading. The game is not emotional, sad or impactul. It's just campy and fun, very similar to Left 4 Dead. So, this time, they're being honest and instead of misleading people again, they're just making a campy game, just like the OG

There are just insults every 2 seconds, jokes, and the game encourages you to just have fun and doing dumb stuff. Again, very similar to Left 4 dead. The game NEVER even attempted to be as serious as the trailer, that's why I'm glad they're being honest and being dumb fun times 1000 with the sequel

Numbers like that are usually the enemy's level. The higher their level, the stronger they are. Generally games will split the map into zones and make all the enemies in each zone a specific range of levels (like level 15 to level 20 for example). As you increase your own level, you can start to enter the higher level areas to fight higher level enemies.

It seems interesting that this game is opening more of a RPG game style but looks heck of fun to kill some zombies in a “Zombieland” format 😄 also the numbers are showing the type of level you need to be to deal with the enemy level. If you are under the range, you would die quickly and if you are above it. Then you shall be good to kill the enemy with ease.

The cards in game would be what we gamers call "perks" or "perk points" aka things that passively or actively change game play with a character or the entire game, it would be like if you got a perk point in the last of us (if they had them in the game) to alert you when a zombie was within a meter of you

You should react to the cutscenes (only cutscenes) of Driver 3. The gameplay is messy, but the cutscenes are beautiful. They hired actual movie directors and producers for the cutscenes to make them so amazing. You can follow the story through the cutscenes without gameplay.

huh, nice to see the original Dead Island's limb damage system get an upgrade. it the first one the most that it would do would be cut off (or break if you were using a blunt weapon) the arms to stop a zombie from attacking effectively or get you a better execution by cutting off/smashing the head or cutting a leg.

The number by the zombies' health bar is indicating what level they are. The player has a level, too. If the zombie is too much higher level than the player is, you won't deal enough damage to kill them successfully, and the zombie can likely kill you in a single attack. Many video games use a level system. Typically it's to make the player feel as though their power is growing over time. You start out weak, and by the end you're very strong.

8:13 yea trying to look at details while camera is panning sideways will make most people feel motion sick. the motion blur is there to stop you from doing that (it emulates the blur from the wobble that happens in real human eye movement, lens in the eye being liquid) of course it's hard to predict the movement is going to happen if you're not the one playing, but it gets more natural eventually.

Hanna, in these sorts of games if you are being engaged by multiple opponents it may be helpful to share the love between them. By that I mean hitting an opponent in some games could knock them back, or reset their attack. This can give you a few seconds to turn and engage the next closest alligator to the boat. If you get too fixated on an opponent who you cannot take out quickly then you can lose awareness of the others around you and get attacked by them. ...I suppose it depends on the game, but food for thought.

@@HannaHsOverInvested in last of us, they're different tiers of zombies (normal < clicking) but all zombies of the same type are the same in Dead Island the level dictates its strength among the same type - a level 1 shambler might have 100 health and do 10 damage per hit, and a level 50 might have 1000 health and might do 100 damage per hit depending on how they scale it, you might find certain level zombies in a specific area, so you should avoid higher level areas early in the game - or they might increase in level as you do to be a constant challenge

Yeah, there are some games that you play because you wanna see what happens and learn the story and world of the game. Then, there are games like this, that you play because you want to dismember some zombies and being a bit over the top. There are games like Elden Ring, which are about overcoming a challenge. There are simulation games, which are just Windows that you peer through to experience something. Gaming is really broad and provides countless different ways to entertain and stimulate. Just one of the things that I love about it. Heh, I knew when I watched this video what your reaction was going to be-- that was WHY I watched it- but I will note that? At this one point, not long after the bit with the sledgehammer, you *giggled* and even smiled a little after a couple of zombies got clobbered. THAT'S what games like this are about. Asssuming, anyway, that they actually make it fun. Sometimes, weirdly enough, developers forget that part. ;)

Answering to "who needs such details". I don't know if it's only for men. But we like destruction. For example, a pumpkin exploding from a weapon hit. Exploding car. Cracking glass after being hit with a hammer, or a sheet of ice after throwing a stone. When games replicate these effects, we find pleasure in it. That's why, for example, in games like sniper elite or mortal kombat we can see X-rays of destroyed organs and broken bones. It's the same in this game. If zombies didn't respond to being hit with a machete, for example, other than bending and eventually tipping over to death, it was really boring. And the dead island series has always been such a... zombie-killing sandbox. Story is not important in it. Unlike the last of us, where the plot is the strongest element, and the gameplay is just a way to tell it. In dead island, the plot is an excuse for effective and fun killing. Like in doom or wolfenstein. But why is it so extremely detailed? I have the impression that the creators just want to show off the engine and the possibilities of new technologies. A game nowadays has to be really unique in something to stand out. A dead island was such a progenitor for the dying light series. Only Dying Light was better because it had a clichéd but good storyline. AND PARKOUR. Dead island doesn't have parkour so it has to stand out differently. So an extremely detailed FLESH system was made.

Honestly, it might be kinda good that you are disgusted by the visuals of a game. To me, that means you really sort of feel it which makes sense because you are new. Everything will have a bigger impact on you. On the other hand I, and probably most other gamers, are already numb to this. If no one mentioned it in the comments @15:20 the number beside their health bar represents their level of strength the yellow numbers as you attack them represents the amount of damage each attack dishes out; which is equal to the % of health damage that is depleted. The stronger your weapons, the stronger the attack will be and the bigger the yellow number will get. So, if your main character is a much lower level than the zombies you encounter, then you may want to avoid them tat all cost until you level up more. However, the more you do level up the more the stronger zombies will appear that will almost match or will be equal to your players current level.

Oh, I'd suggest checking out Detroit - Become Human. The detective portion of gameplay can be a bit finicky, but it has a meaningful story with multiple perspectives and how you interact is clearly shown on screen. It has some tense moments, but usually you can move at your own pace and take in the atmosphere. You've already checked out the trailer for it btw.

So Hannah I noticed on many of your videos that you cannot stomach the blood and gore of some games. U r a girl which means that this is to be expected. This is why most gamers are men. Not only can we stomach the more gruesome aspects of games, but we actually appreciate that the most. Now some male gamers are the exception to this rule. But if you are going to be a gamer then I would suggest that you stick to sports games and other non combat genre games because that seem more your style
