A little background on this game. This takes place in a FAR distant future where almost all life on earth is gone. Prior to the "Collapse" as its often times referred to, a mysterious orb entered the solar system called the Traveler. This entity started to terraform planets that were, prior to its arrival deemed uninhabitable. Mercury was turned into a lush garden world, Titan (the Moon of Saturn) became a technological hub Venus a jungle planet and it was home to one of the biggest universities in history. Human lifespans tripled, and conflict among the populations of earth ceased. This brought on the "Golden age" of humanity. The warriors that were in the trailers were called "Guardians" once dead beings brought back to life with no recollection of their past and wielders of "the light". This in turn made guardians effectively "immortal" able to die and be resurrected by their "ghosts" and the robot you saw talking about ramen and drinking was Cayde-6 an Exo. Basically they were humans who had their conciousness transferred to a robotic body. I really could go on forever. The lore in this universe is deeper than you think. I highly recommend watching "My name is Byf" a youtuber who specializes in the lore of Destiny. Some of the stories are beyond amazing, And incredibly in depth

Cayde is a funny character but his backstory is tragic. The dude Became apart of a program that transfered him to a robot body. The program runner enforced memory wipe for an evil plan and he was forced to forget his wife and son. He rebelled and wrote memories in a journal to send to his son and later named him weapon after his son Ace. Was forced to say goodbye to his mentor after being resurrected. Watched his best friend die to the hands of a wanted criminal alien (who was basically immortal for some reason) and finally met his end to the gun that was the only thing he had to remember his son. Not to mention all the stuff the vanguard put him through. Also it's ironic that the quest to retrieve Caydes gun was given by the same dude who begun his torment.
@gorgonramsey37193 жыл бұрын
For context, the guy that started the torment was Clovis Bray, aka Banshee-1, which due to being reset 44 times has (had after the lament quest) no memories of being Clovis Bray. (Banshee-1 is now Banshee-44, the weapon smith, for that reason)

Despite what the rest of the commenters have been saying, all of the lore is not outside the game. At least not in destiny 2. Saying that about D1 is valid, but it’s completely different in the sequel. All the sass is definitely there, mostly coming from Cayde, best character like. Ever. And on that same note, you should try watching cayde’s last stand/last stand of the gunslinger. Emotional and raw and so cinematic. Rip the Hunter vanguard.

Ugh… Destiny 2… I’ve lost almost 200 hours and counting to that game. I have a serious love-hate relationship with Destiny. So, to answer your question, the games themselves aren’t quite as sassy as they portray in the trailers (except when Cayde 6, Nathan Fillion’s character, is on screen, he’s fantastic and I absolutely miss him). There’s a f**k-ton of lore in the game, but I don’t feel like there’s really enough of a story or plot to warrant a movie or series. If a movie were ever to be optioned, it might have to be an original story set in the Destiny universe… Which I’d totally watch!

If you’re going to attempt to get into the lore of this universe, I highly recommend the lore book called “unveiling”. I’ll link it at the end of the comment. It’s not very long, only 4-5,000 words, but it’s honestly just a phenomenal piece of writing. It’s kind of like a restructured and changed version of Padadise Lost, mixed with some philosophy and biology, all told from the point of view of the universe’s main antagonist, and translated by another character in-universe named Eris Morn. Said main antagonist is essentially a dark god (referred to as “the Darkness”, “the Deep”, and/or “the Winnower”) who believes that the entire universe runs on death and that only through destruction of ineffective structures can effective structures emerge. In my opinion, it’s one of the most interesting villains I’ve ever read. If you do read it, I’d recommend that you do so after you have a basic understanding of what the Vex and the Hive are, especially the Vex. It isn’t really a strict prerequisite, as Unveiling does technically recount the creation of the universe itself and the beginning of life as a concept, but many of the things that go on in the book heavily relate to the Vex and there are a few mentions of the Hive. Basically, this shouldn’t be the first thing you look at, but I do highly recommend that you take a look at it eventually if you are interested in this universe. There is another, significantly longer book called the Books of Sorrow that recount most of the history of the Hive along with their first interactions with the Vex. This might be the best place to start as far as Destiny Lore goes. I’ll link it as well. It’s from the point of view of Oryx, the king of the Hive, who is the evil king who’s son the main character was mentioned as having killed in the video you watched here. He’s also a very interesting character in my opinion, mostly because of the fact that the Winnower is able to persuade him and his sisters to join its side, and the way that this almost corruption changes their minds and their species’ social structures is really cool to read about. Here are the links: Unveiling: www.ishtar-collective.net/categories/book-unveiling Books of Sorrow: www.ishtar-collective.net/categories/books-of-sorrow?highlight=Books+of+Sorrow

The lore for this game is AMAZING. It’s a battle between light & dark, between evil creatures who do evil either to survive or for revenge, and it has a lot of space Sci-fi that people who are into Star Wars & Star Trek may really love. The videos made for the Lore are long but worth it, most of the videos are read like audio books, and there are many videos where they talk about certain broken down pieces of lore which can take anywhere between 10-20 minutes. As someone who really enjoys reading & really enjoys fun fiction books, with a lot of supernatural stuff, Destiny’s Lore fills that void. You’ll really like it. Too bad the games don’t fulfill the greatness... well, Destiny 1 was amazing especially at the end but Destiny 2 is... not as great. The second vid you reacted to where Commander Zavala & Cayde-6 were giving a pep speech, that was showing the inevitable divide between new players and veterans from Destiny 1. Zavala was talking to a group of new Guardians while Cayde-6, with his infinite wisdom & brute explanation, was talking to veterans (players who played Destiny 1), which is also why he said “there will be loot” in the end... because in the end, the game became more about acquiring exotic loot than about the story, unfortunately. At least every piece of loot comes with its own lore tho

Destiny 2 is an MMO RPG game (Massivley Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game) bascially you play as a hero of humanity with powers and you have to stop these races (Vex, Hive, Cabal, Fallen) from destroying the last city. The lore for the game is incredibly deep and complex and its awesome. It is also open world and you can travel to different planets. Also some characters do have a lot of sass, but it isn't always the case. The game can be really serious at times.
@rogoth01themasterwizard113 жыл бұрын
the world of Destiny is massive, sadly it's more in the lore books than anything else, in game the story is poorly told and it's mostly left to gameplay to give you the basics on why you are fighting 'insert random named enemy here' for the period of that season, for a brief run down: an interstellar being known only as 'the Traveller' arrived at Earth, it is a giant white spherical object that brought the power of 'the light' with it, bestowing on people the power of 'immortality'* (they were formerly warriors or similar type people in their past lives and are reawakened through the light by a companion named a 'ghost', the little floating objects talking to the guardians in some of the shots, as long as these ghosts are unharmed they can reanimate their 'guardian' as often as they want a few exceptions based on lore stuff). as a result of the Traveller arriving on earth it brought with it alien races all vying for its power think of the whole independence day situation but the whole of earth has been decimated and the only center of human population left is the 'last city'. nathan fillions character is called 'Cayde-6'. he is an 'Exo' a type of robotic being with self awareness and intelligence, the big purple guy giving the rousing speech is 'commander Zavala' he is a species of human called an 'Awoken', voiced by lance reddick as you identified known for his leading roll in the show 'Fringe', the female character who is a bit sassy towards Cayde is 'Ikora Rey' and is voiced by another of fillion's co-stars from their time on firefly/serenity Gina Torres, these 3 primary characters all represent 1 of the 3 playable classes in the game zavala = 'Titan', Ikora = 'Warlock', cayde = 'Hunter'. while in game you do not need to have 1 of each class in a 'fireteam' (in game term for a party of players to take on more challenging content than can be done solo), for the purposes of the cinematics they always show 1 titan, 1 warlock and 1 hunter for parity and fairness, plus it allows them to showcase some of the more unique stuff for each class without having ot make multiple cinematics for it. the overarching storyline of the Destiny universe is a battle of 'Light' vs 'Darkness' where both light and dark are sentient and represented by agents that work on their behalf, bestowing power on their chosen agents to allow them to take on daunting tasks and challenges normal people could never hope to achieve, and within that plotline there's a myriad of side plots all interconnected to lead back to light or dark in some fashion or other.

The reason why Cayde-6 (the robot) was drinking is because in the lore Clovis Bray I (the first) who made the Exos as a way to achieve immortality as he and his granddaughter was dying of a disease that hasnt been named but has been detailed and the human minds were reacting poorly to being in a new robotic body, same way that your body may react poorly to a transplanted organ. As a way to combat that, he programmed "humanisms" in to the mind, such as eating, drinking, and emotions. Recent lore in the new expansion "Beyond Light" talks about how he wasn't that good of a person that we thought he was and how his Son, Clovis Bray II was a test subject for a prototype Exo and ripped his robotic-self apart with his own hands because the mind thought it was dying or already dead instead of living. The lore goes really dark at some points like this part I just explained, but there is definitely some more lighthearted moments in the lore, such as the "Ghost Community Theater" lore book.

Cayde-6 is an Exo. He was the Vanguard of Hunters and the only NPC with personality (Shaxx doesn't count). Not just some robot. All Exo are human minds dropped into synthetic body's that can get 'reset' which is the number beside the name, Cayde having gone 6 times with the likes of Banshee-44 having gone 44 times. The more times you 'reset' the more damaged your memories are, Banshee being a good example. Edit: You seem like a Hunter

Watching this and then reading the comments just brings back all of these memories of emote dance parties in the social zones and parody songs with videos made from in game footage. I have well over 3000 hours between Destiny and Destiny 2, and I work full time and have a family. Destiny just replaced sleep for me. The destiny community with the aid of Bungie has more attitude (sass) than any other game community in my opinion. As an example let me direct you to The Deathsingers Destiny parody group, some of which I think you would appreciate. I'll make a guardian out of you - kzbin.info/www/bejne/hni8epWHbJWKa80 or Shut-up and Raid - kzbin.info/www/bejne/jGa7p3p3bL6BZpI just a couple for you to check out but there are so many more, Enjoy

And you thought that WoW lore compilation video was bad. A player of Destiny and basically the player community lore master, My name is Byf, has created several large scale videos that explain the entire lore of the game series and it is EXTENSIVE. Like, three hours worth of explanation in one of them. It doesn't necessarily make Destiny a bigger game nor is the lore for it bigger than franchises like WoW or Warhammer who could boast an entire series of videos on their exact lore and histories therein but, Destiny definitely has a breadth of detail you have to wrap your brain around given the scope of the storyline for it is pretty thick in its own way due to a majority of the lore is all set up for the games themselves. Three hours of information but, it's not so much a barrage like the WoW lore video which was that way for a reason given he needed to condense 20 years of lore for you. This is video is easier to digest given it's a clearer and slower explanation. It's hefty though but, it'll catch you up pretty good since he includes the plot of the game as well all the way up until the previous expansions to the game from a year or two back. kzbin.info/www/bejne/b57FdYusebOkirc

1) from cayde, yes, its sprinkled about here and there and def can happen between players lmfao 2) some characters dont like each other and other characters dont really like anyone so yeah 3) idk about a movie at the time but the game devs have comics they occasionally release to explain a bit of backstory among other things -edit i reccomend checking out the taken king saturn battle, arguably one of the better cinematics

To HannaH, the game is free to play on all major platforms with only major annual DLC and micro-transactions (spend anywhere between $5-$50 for premium currency to spend on cosmetics or the premium season pass, a progression system with exclusive, mostly cosmetic items only available for a limited time). So if you wanna get into it, jump right in. Just know it's a game that is far more rewarding for "hardcore" gamers, those who are willing to pour larger amounts of time into a game in shorter periods than most people. That said it can still be easily enjoyable for most people, just don't expect to get all the coolest stuff in-game such as certain "exotic" items (weapons and armor that have very unique fun and/or powerful attributes about them). And some of the Voice Actors you recognized were obviously Nathan Fillion (worked in Fireflies and some Halo franchise titles) as Cayde-6 (the sassy robot dude) who was later replaced by Nolan North (a well known voice actor in the gaming industry). The Ghost (that white, polygonal floating guy that was with the group of 3 in one of the live-action that played copyrighted music for them) was voiced by Peter Dinklage (well known as the little person in Game of Thrones, Tyrion Lannister) who was also replaced by Nolan North later on. Zavala (the bald blue guy who gave the inspirational speech) is voiced by Lance Reddick (notable work from my knowledge is he was a in the John Wick movies, I believe was voiced in Rick & Morty as a character known as "Ghost Train," and a few other works I do not know about). Lastly, the sass levels. The actual game does have a fair amount of sass, but it's brought in as comic relief and definitely doesn't make up anywhere near the majority of dialogue. The game takes itself a LOT more seriously with a lot of world-building and... exposition (I'm not a writer so I'm guessing that's what it is). So ultimately, sass is of the same quality but nowhere near the same frequency.

Having played Destiny 2 for a while now the best way I could describe it is that its essentially Marvels Guardians Of The Galaxy, with Si-Fi super powers. Would be awesome if they decided to make a movie based on Destiny 2, heck could make a few movies from all the awesome lore it has in game.

If there's one thing Bungie truly excels at, its marketing. All the Destiny trailers are great at building hype, and occasionally the game lives up to it lol. (Still my favorite game)
@dakotaaddison90593 жыл бұрын
Sass, kinda Though Cayde (the robot) brought a lot of the fun mood, he’s now dead so the game more or less feels a lot less like it did before he died No movie but that would be great to have a couple dozen Destiny movies 😂
@Nathan-sf3ub3 жыл бұрын
Cayde-6 (Nathan Fillion) , RIP, and Amanda Holiday had all the sass and wit. Especially when they bounced off each other in The Taken King. For better context on everything that's happening in the world of Destiny, I'd suggest looking up MyNameIsByf for lore. Fair warning, there is a lot of it.

The thing I always wish to convey to people unfamiliar with the world of gaming, RPG(Role Playing Games) in particular, is that is encompasses every aspect of art and the level of immersion is unparralelled by anything else. It combines art,music,cinema,reading/writing and technology in such a fashion that when done correctly....can trigger emotional response....ALL emotions. You literally get to play a book/movie and develop a personalized character throughout. This isn't CoD(Call of Duty). There are intricate puzzles that require an adept IQ to solve on top of having skills in strategic live fire sitiations. I stream SOLO content for D2(just started) if you would like a view of actual gameplay and just how satisfying it is to conquer an activity made for 3-6 people by your lonesome😁 So happy you enjoyed a glimpse into the world so many of us love and live in everyday!

I think it feels like star wars cause it's that same level of sci fi with fantasy elements. Basically spaceships, aliens and beings with magical powers. Something also in common that's not in the video is both star wars and destiny have a very clear light vs dark, but use the gray area between light and dark as plot points. P.S. the lady @4:03 you said you like is named Ikora voiced by Gina Torres! You'll see more of her in the playlist but there's another Firefly cast member in this playlist as well. (other than Fillion)
