As a chef I can say that 20% of a dining experience comes from the lighting of the room. The low lighting in this scene combined with focus of it put on the dish and victim makes the delivery of this disturbing scene so much stronger.

Most adaptations adaptations do not live up to the source material, and some do not even support themselves. Hopkins succeeded, just not entirely?

I have to think that at the point that he was in jail, he wouldn't need to hide himself at all. mads, however, portrayed Hannibal when he was hiding his true nature from society. Both performances were amazing, just different. That being said, Mads portrayal of Hannibal is my favorite

@@mishstepp I was thinking the exact same thing, Anthony's hannibal has also been incarcerated for some time and I've heard many serial killer like their identities to be revealed, so that everyone can peruse their "work" and know they got away with it for so long. At that point Anthony's character doesnt have to hold back his intentions since everyone already knows how dangerous he is. One difference I personally see from the two is that mads character seems more hollow, devoid of most emotion besides romanticism towards tragedy. Anthony seemed more crazed and theatrical, but as we were saying those are mainly due to context.

You can tell Hannibal really takes pride in what he does and relishes every bite. In a very messed up kind of way he's almost honouring every one of his victims by turning them into a culinary delight that the rest of the "tribe" can enjoy. In some cultures, eating people were a way of honouring them. You apparently absorbed their spirit and carry them with you. For the record I'm in no way supporting or encouraging cannibalism. Just pointing out the fascination behind it in some cultures.

KoolAids In my country we sometimes traditionally cook food inside clay kilns and sometimes buries it beneath the ground. It has a very distinct and tasty flavor, although it smells earthy, it's still delicious nonetheless. Just because you haven't seen any other methods of cooking food besides frying bacon on a pan and cooking steak on a grill doesn't make other unusual methods "unnecessary". This just shows how culturally knowledgable hannibal is when it comes to cooking food.

random dude yes but you need specific type of clay and it can still be harmful. You need to have it well wrapped inside to make sure no debris falls in when braking it open. That’s why he had it wrapped in a thick leaf. Also well the point is to keep it moist it doesn’t always work that way and the taste can sometimes be too earth. Not really a great way to cook and is more for show than actually making something delicious. Also yes the thigh is kinda dry.

I‘m currently rewatching the 1st season and dear god, I’m reminded once again, what a masterpiece this show was: intelligent writing, magnificent cinematography, fascinating themes of philosophy, psychology, humanity, intelligence, ethics, integrity, acceptance, beauty, love; a unique love story. And then I’m also reminded that the current shows that are out there such as Rings of Power, Willow, The Wheel of Time, Star Wars, Star Trek Discovery, Celopatra, etc. etc. are both actively insulting the viewer’s intelligence and antagonizing their customer’s for calling out the garbage that they are. Fucking hell. Please bring back intelligent entertainment! I need a 4h season.
