I loved these guys and saw them several times around this time (blistering show at Surrey University in Guildford especially stands out in my memory). I had the pleasure of bumping into Sami Yaffa at Gatwick recently, what a super nice guy. He was quoted once as saying Hanoi weren't a hair band, they were a hat band, and that was certainly the case on this day!

I was at Guildford too, five days after my 19th birthday. I saw them so many times, but that was a standout gig.

I was there - hot day. A lot of the crowd hated them and it made them even better. (You can hear Monroe having a go at the crowd in part 4)... they were amazing. Saw them at the Marquee too but I preferred Reading.

Why did a lot of the crowd hate them and why were they throwing bottles and garbage at them?
@paulgurnett16299 жыл бұрын
Me too. Had already heard them on Radio Ones 'Friday Rock Show' with Tammy Vance. Remember him? Was a really excited 16yo there for the weekend. Living in Reading in the early 80s was pretty shit for most of the year, but come the August bank holiday all bets were off and the great unwashed descended on my home town. 32 years later and living in Melbourne, I still love this band. Also saw Cherry Bombz at the Paradise Club a few years later. Tiniest stage I have ever seen!
