What an engaging interview from beginning to end. A true gentleman as well as a master of his profession. I surprised myself by understanding almost every word that he spoke.
Vielen, vielen Dank! Ich bin ganz begeistert! A. von Uri, Schweiz

7:10 encounter with Chaliapin, not in person, unfortunately, but on stage. When I was in Prague.1932-34. when I was 23-25 years old. I was not totally decided for the opera. But certainly, a main influence to decide for an operatic career was Chaliapin. I saw him in more than one role. That was, for that time, unbelievably modern.

What makes certain videos have automatic translations? Do they have to be newly uploaded or something? Could this just be reuploaded and youtube would be able to have auto english translation?

Did anyone else notice that when he was talking about what he thought about the Dutchman character, that he said he's just a picture and figment of ELSA'S imagination...? Like, dude, they may be both verträumte Frauen but Elsa and Senta are not the same lady. >_
