I'm pretty proficient at the piano. I also like to think I'm pretty creative and anytime I play, people are silent and surprised. Her ad libs and transitions are so spot on. Internet is such a funny place. I've watched around 20 other Insterstellar covers and most of them have more than 5 million views when this one, which BY FAR the best, more complete and intense of all of them, has not even 2 million views. Well... Interstellar is one of my favourite films. I've just got home, drunk from the pub and by no means a social media kinda guy. I stumbled across this by accident, looking for some music to go to bed to. Can I just say thanks. I'm now wide awake but in a good way. @@u208839 Muscle memory. Play it enough and you don’t need to actively think about the notes you’re playing anymore. In my experience as a pianist your brain automatically breaks the song up into perceived “sections” so when playing longer pieces the thing I’m thinking about the most is which “section” comes next.

This video is mesmerizing, emotionally moving and at times overwhelming. As I watch it over and over I can’t help but rack my brain over the commitment and effort it takes to master an instrument to this level. Her parents must have played a role in this with her from a very young age. It’s inspiring to see exceptional examples of brilliant minds doing extraordinary things and I envy her for not letting life get in her way. My grandmother had a piano and everytime I visited her as a child I would play on it. Started doing that around the age of 7. My parents never once recognized it or thought to enroll me in lessons at an age where I could have learned it like another language. I could have been this good and it slipped away. That’s why the tears roll down my face when I watch it.

That’s not a very good excuse. There is nothing stopping you now and in six years you can become very good. You just have to put the time and dedication. Into it. Just so you know, she never had lessons and didn’t even know how to read notes until just recently she said in an interview. She never once had a piano teacher and self taught herself so you can’t blame parents for not giving you lessons lol, because this girl learned all on her own, without even learning how to read notes. Just kept practicing 😉. Do you know who also did that Jimi Hendrix with a guitar and changed how the music was played after that. Many of the greatest players never had lessons, so they had no barriers and no rules. Created something different and magical.

I too envy her, I’m starting my piano journey now 40 years after going for my first piano lesson where I was told by the tutor I couldn’t be taught when she realised I didn’t have a piano, my mother couldn’t afford to buy a piano for me to practice on - I was heartbroken at the time and wish I had been given the chance back then when I WANTED to play rather than being forced to like some of the kids in school! My one wish is to learn to play this beautiful piece one day ❤
