+Royal Crustle me too, I like the more relatable, more intense Superman. the classic Superman personality seemed like such a goody goody. Does what everyone tells him, does what evryone wants him to do, whereas this new Superman flat out tells out Military, "You can't control me" sooo kickass. AND more inline with his New 52 personality where he goes on TV as Superman and flat out threatens to kick EVERY VILLAIN'S ASS if they come near anyone he knows

Dude pre-52 Superman was not a complete goody goody that just comes from the insults that the cartoons spit at him. If you read the storyline Whatever Happened to Turth, Justice, and The American Way or watch it's adaptation Superman vs the Elite he completely explains that he does what he does because it would be all too easy for him to become corrupted if he started being more violent and willing to kill. Hell most people tend to forget that he executed Zod and his henchmen because of the lives they too. The fact that he doesn't lord himself out because of his powers is what makes him much more human than the humans he protects. If people actually read comics you'll find that classic Superman is actually quite relatable just as New 52 Superman was to a point.

This song reminds me to message my Dad who served in the Air Force for 12 years. He went through a rough patch and became a heavy drinker and he pulled through after finding him nearly lifeless on his room floor. We overcame his issue and became stronger as a father and son. He provided me hope as Superman does and I provided the same. Man of Steel is a movie but the symbolism remains unquestioned.

I am so utterly fed up with people talking shit about Man of Steel, mainly coming from Marvel fanboys. Man of Steel is and always will be the best superman movie to date. It was comic book accurate and actually had a plot unlike Avengers 1 & 2 which is literally the same movie with a different villain. Man of Steel was mature and successfully tackled mature concepts which Marvel's brainwashed fanboys couldn't understand. It was literally Clark's first day on the job. That "dark and gritty" bs is what most people pull out of their ass. The soundtrack is amazing as well as the movie itself.
@RedxLightning46949 жыл бұрын
joshua19094 above marvel or DC i am a comic book film fan, i want them ALL to be good because i read comics and appreciate characters regardless of brand, so from that perspective heres my take: Man of Steel is NOT the piece of trash people made it out to be. it deserves much more respect for trying new things, paving a few roads, and creating something grand. it is NOT however, engaging start to finish. the middle slows down, i legitimate fell asleep in the middle of the film the second time i saw it. and if u think Avengers 1 and 2 were the same movie u are absolutely kidding yourself. Avengers is very character driven instead of plot driven, which makes for more interesting conversation and story. MoS was a little more weighted towards the plot, but only had 2 interesting characters: clark and lois. everyone else (including zod) was okay to forgetful. in either avengers movie you remember everyone, what they did, what they said etc. which is y marvel is so successful with their films. this is also y The Dark Knight was so incredible and DK Rises wasnt. DK had the avengers mentality of character as the cake and plot as the icing. DKR was entirely plot over character. as a result it gets kinda boring and dragged out. MoS is weird because it has the idea to be character driven, which is good, but doesnt know how to express it, so only pieces come across and the full film isnt realized. this is y the middle slows down and gets very talkative because its trying to build character, but doesnt do it that well. thats y the ending is so interesting. the point is supposed to be superman doesnt kill but he NEEDED to because he had no other choice. now some people get that messege, because we know superman already. there isnt much set up for his morality before hand, so some people interpret that as "superman kills." thats y the ending is so divisive, because some people take in superman lore into account, others only the film. so i cant say MoS is bad, because it is a good movie, but could have been alot better.
@joshua190949 жыл бұрын
Scott Iwaniec I agree on most of everything except the fact that you said it doesn't build Clark's character. What most fail to realize is that it was literally his first day on the job. This was technically a new take on his origin. Clark hasn't been fully fleshed out yet. There was no time to get to see him grow because he obviously had to save everyone. and in my opinion we don't need an entire montage seeing Clark grow as a character because we already know who Clark is and why he's Superman and what his morals are.
@RedxLightning46949 жыл бұрын
we actually dont knwo what his morals are in these films thats the thing. i feel like that comes more in the next film as a result of his actions in this one, in which case, would make the film make more sense. clark was the most developed but its kinda vague with a few things. mainly because its banking on the idea that everyone knows it already, when actually, we dont know weather this is the OG superman or if he is something a little bit different, the film doesnt make it crystal clear. i thought it was fine u just needed some inference cuz i folllowed it okay
@joshua190949 жыл бұрын
Scott Iwaniec Yea I know but everyone knows who Superman is and what he stands for. It really isn't hard to know that Superman is a hero and his duty is to protect earth.

Those French Horns though... wow
@drayquan233 жыл бұрын
Man.. I had no idea a bunch of well played french horns were what was responsible for this kind of epic sound until recently. I played the french horn in middle school but never really cared for it much, never really gave it much time/effort, never realized they were what made some of the most epic sounding music in some of my fav movie scores. I now really regret not sticking with it!! I kinda disliked it actually because it didn't seem "cool" at the time, and also because I felt as if I got stuck with it. I was late the first day of grade 7 band (when everyone got to choose their instrument), and the only thing left over when I got there late was the French Horn, simply because it was bulky/heavy (most ppl walked to school, nobody wanted to have to lug it back and fourth for the necessary extra practice at home). I did get pretty good by grade 8, but none of the music we played had any real standout parts for the french horns (there were 3 of us FH players in the full band). I've always loved intense movie scores, even back in grade 7 if I had any idea that some of the most epic music I had heard and loved in various 70s/80s/90's music had been made possible by featuring french horns blasting like this, I NEVER would have quit it -- I would've been so much more into it at the time, and would probably still play. Oh well, I'm a little older now, but I suppose its never too late to pick one back up ;)

Or maybe they just didn't like the movie, stop looking so much into things.

Exactly, if people can't give a single reason why they don't like a movie we don't need to look into things so much...keep it simple and know that they are just plain retarded and don't know how to use their brains.

Tom Mullenix Actually that was the one part of the movie I didn't like. It seems very uncharacteristic of Superman not to save his dad. Other than that though, I thought it was by far the best Superman movie ever made and the best super-hero movie of 2013.
@teamrocketcircle806710 жыл бұрын
jtlbb2 I thought him not saving his Dad kinda helped with the story in a way. He let his Dad die, Even though he didn't want it to happen. So with that he will try to save as many people as he can
@jtlbb210 жыл бұрын
Tom Mullenix I do agree that it is uncharacteristic for Superman not to save his dad. It's the one part of the movie I really didn't like, but I loved the movie as a whole. Btw, Superman of the comics or the Donner series might be able to fly that fast... MoS Superman isn't nearly as powerful. So I don't know. He's definitely not the invincible version of Superman.

You mean the movie that kept to a certain tone, and remember there were superheroes in the superhero movie, unlike bad movies like Thor 1 and 2 or Hulk (Ang Lee version)? IT was corny, contrived, but at least it was enjoyable, and remembered I came to see a SUPERHERO MOVIE, not Christopher Nolan writing a sequel to The Dark Knight. Its like how people also assume half the time that if I dislike this movie, I loved the original (Which, the original was only good for its time, it honestly sucks by todays standards, fails at writing, etc.)

Mega Zeta - I hope you can relate with this. I watched the original Superman Movies in the theaters as a kid growing up. Over the years, I realized what a "goody-two-shoes," naive character he was. The Christopher Reeves' Superman would never morph into the Injustice Superman (the scene in BVS of Batman's dream of Darkseid) that was revealed. The 'new' Superman is far more fallible and thus, more relatable to the audience. In the alternate reality from Batman's dream, Superman became vengeful after losing Lois Lane. In the original Man of Steel, Superman even kills General Zod (forcefully so!) while in the original Superman II, Superman 'disposed of' the three criminals from Krypton (although their fate seemed to be death, the audience didn't quite know.) Another interesting fact; look at how the press fawns and adores Christopher Reeves' Superman and how the press will hate on Henry Cavil's version. While I still love the original Superman movies, the reboot, while it took a while to grow on me, is far more realistic in terms of character reaction and likelihood. I look forward to the future installments.

I like Man of Steel, but I had some issues with it that bring it from a 8/10 to a 6/10= An average movie It was ok, but the constant flashbacks and the movie trying to be some dark and gritty tale of superman doesn't work. Superman can be dark, but they just did it wrong. Also, I have to add that the musical score is actually quite amazing.

I have to agree with it being too Dark, Apparently DC was trying to use the Dark coloring like in Dark Knight thinking people would like it. Sadly that i think ruined the movie for me 7/10.
@juxup9 жыл бұрын
Yeah, but instead of dark in color, I mean dark as in gritty and stuff and I think personally that Superman can be dark, but they did it wrong. I personally think, even if superman returns didn't have as much action, it kind of had a good blend of dark and gritty and the classic 70's superman. I give Superman Returns a 7/10 and now I would give Man of steel a 6/10

I think the movie was good but it could have been great. The first and second act were flawless. I do agree that the action was too much for the first movie in a universe. The scene where he goes to the Indian Ocean to destroy the machine we did NOT need those tentacles that was a bit much. Another thing was the dialog. The dialog was the best part of the Dark Knight series but in this movie it was so little dialog and it was not that great.
@hassanilahi90910 жыл бұрын
Agreed. Also, I thought General Zod was a rather dull villain. I understand that it's Superman's origin story but villains make or break superhero movies. I just didn't buy General Zod as an antagonist, whereas "The Dark Knight" has some of the most memorable villains ever I immediately forgot about Zod after seeing the film.
@trans80109 жыл бұрын
I thought the first two acts had the most flaws because it never once gave any focus to the characters beyond the simple archetypes. Zod is bent on world domination wanting to supercede the lazy and corrupt politicians but there was nothing else there to distinguish him above the simple archetypes and cliches. There was no reason explained as to why Clark has a sudden desire to fight with the human race. Even in scenes where he's being bullied he sits there and takes it not once reacting, the bullies also have no personality to them. We don't know why they are bullying Clark. Is it because of his powers? His lonliness? The film never makes it clear. Without something for the audience to attach themselves to the scene rings hollow and when Clark decides to be a savior in lieu of Christ, it's unbelievable because we have never been given a character aside from his own parents that's treated Clark with love and respect. We also never see Clark save people because he genuinely cares for the people only because the plot demands that he should. The slow exposition scenes really do ring short because they're set up to get to the next action beat. Lois Lane was horribly miscast. Amy Adams is a wonderful actress but she plays Lois flat, the spunk, the drive and ambition is lost among phoned in dialogue. There are logic errors abound and most of them happen during the Krypton sequences. I simply don't buy that the Kryptonians gave up on colonization to mine the planet core for resources that they could have easily done off world? How does the Kryptonian tech still work if it was said that since everything was tied to Krypton would fail if the planet dies? The phantom zone breaks because the planet dies yet all the tech off world that was built on Krypton is still able to function? Why does Jonathan race to the car to get the dog when it's clear that Clark is stronger and faster, his stay with your mother crack was bs. Why did Kal drop off Lois in the Arctic wearing only a parka and some casual winter wear when the Temps outside would clearly be low enough to kill a normal human in minutes? These arnt nitpicks they are holes in the story that the film fails to provide an answer for be a use its more focused on hammering the savior issue while stringing up large action beats?

Tom Mullenix I'll give you the fact that the battle between him and Zod probably killed 1,000's of people, which I had a problem with, but to be honest this absolutely did embody everything Superman stood for at the end. Only instead of him being instantly good/perfect being and automatically being at the height of everything he stood for, it showed more of his journey to reach that point. Personally I loved that idea. This was one of the top Superman movies in my book.
@BrontoSmilodon111 жыл бұрын
Christopher Maloney actually rewatching the scene where superman fights zod, there weren't any people being visibly killed which come to think is kinda stupid given the relative amount of destruction. Also, its not like this movie was about a well experienced superman. When you try to do something for the first time you are bound to brake some eggs in the process. They could instead have a sequel showing how this superman will become the iconic hero that everyone loves, but no lets just bring batman's overrated ass into the mix and maybe a few more heroes to sloppyingly catch up to marvel's terminator.
@kingtriton197510 жыл бұрын
BrontoSmilodon1 the sequel is to introduce the rivalry of which is Superman and Lex Luthor. Also, of course theyre going to try and catch up to the Avengers, because the Justice League for the first time will be on the big screen. While this movie had good action sequences. it was just terrible. Disregarding how It didn't even hold a candle to the originals, The story is just too deep, Superman puts the lives of innocent people in danger, and DESTROYS HALF OF METROPOLIS, but we nearly get to know the characters. We don't even know whats bugging clerk to begin with or why he's feeling so depressed. But one of my personal disappointments was that General Zodd never used the classic line "Kneel Before Zodd"

to the original superman movies where he kills general zod inside his fortress or the animated version where he kills doomsday darkseid and that other guy that was like the evil version of superman and no i am not talking about bizzaro either and whats wrong with it being deep would u mind superman be a big brute smashing through things like the hulk and u want to know what's bugging clark he is different from everyone else on the planet and in the anime movies and series he still destroys Metropolis whether its against darkseid or doomsday and further more who cares if zodd didn't say his classic line

No Superman movie will ever be as good as the classic 1978 film with the late Christopher Reeve- but "Man of Steel" was actually an improvement to "Superman Returns". It was good enough to currently have a sequel in development that will be starting off a cinematic universe for other DC comic superheroes. That probably will not be near as good as the Marvel Cinematic Universe for the Avengers series.

Mike J The old Superman movies were great with the exception of the fourth one that was not even supposed to be made because it is not work of the Salkinds. "Superman Returns" was most definitely a boring movie because it was just two hours of Superman obsessing over Lois Lane knowing he can never be with her again and Lex Luthor filling up a giant rock with kryptonite. "Man of Steel" is not the greatest Superman story ever told- but it is an improvement and hopefully can start off a good series.

JLC31383 i don't know if the old superman films where great but they definitely where a good start ... mostly cause the first 2 films where supposed to be one more cohesive story... still "man of steel" is better than everyone gives it credit for ..yeah it got flaws and real ones not the whinny fan boys complains .. but it also has some great thing..heck this film make me understand why superman is such an icon of the American dream and give me class about capitalism vs communist without letting me know it was doing so .. the problem with man of steel is that it was a really ambitious film and the director a the director and people involve didn't pull it off... but god was it a close hit the mark
