Those who hoist Hamsalekha to the skies have no idea of the greats of Kannada Cinema ....Chi Sadashivaiah, Ku Ra Si, Kanagal Prabhakara Sastry, RN Jayagopal, , Udayashankar, Vijayanarasimha and others. The standards of the audience has gone so down that he has become the new benchmark. The credit for lowering the quality of kannada music should surely go to Gangaraju aka Dwamsalekha. It is a sad state of affairs. The connoisseurs can only grieve in silence. A mere background in theatre and understanding of grammar of music doesn't make one great. His longevity is no doubt remarkable. Doea he have a body of work like Vijaybhaskar or G K Venkatesh or Rajan Nagendra. Absolutely not. To call him Naada Brahma is an insult to the yesteryear greats and Godess Saraswati. I have no issues with his admirers praising him to the skies because their ability to appreciate music is limited. But he doesn't deserve in that pantheon of greats. Olave jeevana saakshaatkaara. Show me one lyrics in his book that can give 10 miles of this song. Sadly we don't give due to our greats. Respecting your opinion I differ the take on Hamsalekha. While most cling to traditional status quo as it gives a secure foothold, some do take the risk and break away the traditions and create a niche for themselves! Hamsalekha is one such. He brought in a fresh air with his very first song when he was just a kid off the block! ನೀನಾ ಭಗವಂತ.. of the movie Triveni ! Those days it was impossible even to think in those lines ! He did cater to the needs of the film makers and the high standards were certainly not maintained always. It isn't right to expect that too. I liked the lines he wrote in a song in Aakasmika which only a ಅನುಭಾವಿ could write. ಅಂಕೆ ಇಲ್ಲದ ಮನಸ್ಸನ್ನು ದಂಡಿಸುವುದು ನ್ಯಾಯ ಮೂಕ ಮುಗ್ಧ ದೇಹವ ಹಿಂಸಿಸುವುದು ಹೇಯ... That very thought process I heard in a talk of Rajneesh Osho! No he isn't Dhwamsa lekha always! He truly is a great Desi talent. ಕನ್ನಡಿಗರ ಹೆಮ್ಮೆ!😎

Oh calm down man, with time people change their music tastes and like whatever they feel is nice to hear. The people you mentioned were may be greater than hamsalekha in many aspects but the generation praise hamsalekha had hardly heard them. Likewise, the current generation doesn't even know who hamsalekha is. It is indeed unfair to discredit hamsalekha because there were many greats before him and you have a particular taste in music.
