The Late Late Show with James Corden

The Late Late Show with James Corden

Күн бұрын

It's our first night back after a little break and after a little breakdown of the third night of Hanukkah from Ian Karmel, James gets an unfortunate update from Dave about his Thanksgiving turkey. And when a joke gets the best of Scotty on Camera 5, we somehow film a nature documentary of CBS Senior Vice President of Late Night Programming (West Coast) Nick Bernstein.

Each week night, THE LATE LATE SHOW with JAMES CORDEN throws the ultimate late night after party with a mix of celebrity guests, edgy musical acts, games and sketches. Corden differentiates his show by offering viewers a peek behind-the-scenes into the green room, bringing all of his guests out at once and lending his musical and acting talents to various sketches. Additionally, bandleader Reggie Watts and the house band provide original, improvised music throughout the show. Since Corden took the reigns as host in March 2015, he has quickly become known for generating buzzworthy viral videos, such as Carpool Karaoke."

You know a show is so good when you’d rather watch the monologue than the actual interviews! And I still love watching the interviews too!!! Also, Reggie Watts is a damn genius ❤️

It seems so obvious now that having your writing staff be part of the show is a great idea. They're all great on camera. The banter is great because they're all funny and intelligent. It's clear that other shows realized that it was good to have someone to riff with, i.e. Guillerm, Andy, the band leader, but nobody thought of just bringing out the whole writing staff. Love it.

Do you watch Seth Myers /Late Night with...? I have liked the fact that he includes his writers in skits and has various segments that include them - I imagine for comedy writers who also perform (most of them, though not all), it's a great step, or extra exposure. He also 'blames' his writers - including himself - for jokes the audience don't like etc. During the pandemic, The Amber Ruffin show launched (recommend it), produced by 4 of his Late Night team, including Seth & Amber. As audiences returned to most shows,, there was lots of social media feedback that agreed with your points. I think he was the last to bring back any audience, and he announced it (warning people!) in advance, as well as noting the show had evolved & wouldn't just go back. He has stayed in casual dress, his writers are still included, their 'private jokes' - not so private - have continued. He sshhhhushes the audience if they laugh too long. I think it's way more enjoyable to watch than, e.g. Colbert, who went back to PERFORMING as soon as he could - it seems. I wasn't a fan of this really before, but I do really like how they have kept their interactions visible & there is a really interesting view into what it really takes to make a TV show, imo. I think, given the function of social media & 'accessibility' (sort of), it's definitely a good option to give the viewers what they want. Things _are_ different. It's interesting to see how different shows have evolved so quickly... I'll stop talking now, but yeah, definitely enjoying these different formats. (Last thought - I suspect Colbert went back to his conventional structure because his target audience is older & watches more on TV. Ditto with Jimmy Kimmel - to a slightly lesser extent. I appreciate Colbert's writer who keeps throwing in Boomer jokes for KZbin viewers, although sadly the writer remains anonymous... ;)

The first time I saw James Corden was when I saw the movie "Into the Woods". I loved it so much I took a friend so I could see it again the next day. Since then I've seen a lot more of JC's work, including Gavin and Stacey and Car Pool Karaoke, I was seriously crying during the Paul McCartney one which I just saw recently. I am now completely hooked on this Late Late Show craziness and must watch daily to catch up with the crew chat during the opening no-longer-a-monologue and THE NEWS. This is necessary for my mental health during these trying days. Thanks for all the laughs and healing tears.
