Awesome flying, Keith! Thanks for the update! 😃 It's great to see you back! Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊

Good to see you back it would be nice to have a fan on a switch until after the transition the vtx was getting hot

Yeah with the full nose that I have on here right now it tends to heat up while waiting for the GPS, then hovering after takeoff. It cools right down with some forward airspeed though. It just needs some airflow while stationary. A small fan would certainly help.

Nice video Keith! I'm jealous of your better weather, I need to try and get some more flights done with mine but it's been too stormy. I'm really quite enjoying it though, in VTOL format it answers the main drawbacks of the standard version.

You have to admit though, your low ceiling and the mist was prettier to look at than boring empty fields... lol I'm looking forward to seeing what we can get out of these with more tuning, and you're right, it addresses everything I didn't like about the standard fixed wing variant.

Using the tilt for yaw control, eliminates the yaw instability inherent with the regular tri-copter layout, and also means it will yaw at the same rate to either direction, rather then the slower yaw when turning against two props, and faster yaw turning against one prop. Does it park the rear prop inline with the body, or with the wings? I imagine the latter would cause more drag.

Excellent. Thank you.

Looks. Good. Hopefully, i get mine soon. I've been trying to work out air shipping with haohan. By sea takes way too long. From what i can see its probably missing faltering in the pids.

Great vid. I have a T1 Ranger vTol, and I have found that Amp draw in transition and at landing is huge and flight times low for the type. Just saying in case anyones considering a vTol, these are the tradeoffs so I have found. It stopped me using Li Ion batts as they struggled with the draw.
@jaysonrees738Ай бұрын
In terms of amp draw, would you say it's comparable to a multirotor, or is it worse? I've got no experience with VTOL planes, but lots with quadcopters. Edit: I saw in the video. That thing is terribly hungry! Even my big quad doesn't suck power like that, and it's not light in the slightest. On 6S, it's like 10-15 amps to hover, and 20-25 to cruise. All I can figure is that the small props have a rough time.

I came to the conclusion that a 7" quad setup for efficiency would be better if you need vTol and are not going to travel more than 8km away.

For the FireFly VTOL, if it is operated using multicopter mode only for takeoff and landing, and fixed-wing mode for cruising, with our official full-pole 2P battery, the actual tested endurance can reach 80 minutes, which is far beyond what a typical multicopter can achieve.

Nice video, the Firefly and the vtol still have the same big problem with a crosswind or head on with a gimbal in it. The surface area on the sides is huge and the nose cone works like a scoop and slows it down as you would know but apart from that it flys well. It’s a shame they didn’t send you a full version seeing the kit is not going to be available. Another great video..

if the motors stopped in hover condition, would the aircraft glide?
@bonafidepirateАй бұрын
Assuming you start with enough altitude to build airspeed it will stabilize and start flying.

The standard tune seems to wrk - not perfect, but it works
@bonafidepirateАй бұрын
Yep, it works well enough now, but I know it can be closer to perfect with a bit more tuning. lol

Great video! Looks very stable! Where did you get that Ardupilot sticker? Looks great!

Thanks! A guy in one of the AP groups was making them and selling them on Etsy. They're still listed here www.etsy.com/listing/1672927182/
