John looks at Freddie like a little brother laughing at his admired big brother. But I ADORE watching Roger and Freddie in concert even more, because they are like two best friends having the time of their lives, enjoying every minute, trying to crack each other up: smacking each other’s rears when Freddie walks by (I think it’s during the other night at Wembley, during the same rock and roll medley), chasing each other around the stage at the end of a concert, when Roger starts Another One Bites the Dust early to throw Freddie off, the faces they make at each other in Montreal. John could be serious or moody at times in concerts, so it’s nice when he is enjoying himself. Brian can be VERY serious and focused when he plays, but Freddie could occasionally get him to smile. Freddie and Roger? They were there to have fun.

Freddie's style on the stage did change but to be fair, the stages and the audiences got bigger as well. Those little moments between John and Freddie give me life. It's rare to see John laughing or smiling on stage, but when he did it, it was usually because Freddie was fooling around. His kryptonite was Freddie with tits (I want to be free during 1984-85). I think they had a very sweet relationship and that Freddie was John's biggest support within the band.

Fred and John were probably the closest. They often worked on projects together, such as, "Who Needs You," and others. They hired a piano player in 1985. Freddie was very critical with his own playing, though we all know he was brilliant. But he also like the freedom to move about stage and interact with the audience. In songs like White Queen, and so many others, he was tied to the piano.

Yes..that was Spike Edney on the piano..they grew up listening to those songs...that’s how they knew all the words...It always amazes me that when they first got together and started performing and writing songs, Freddie was 25 down to John who was 20...such talent...brothers that were meant to be together🤩

John was laughing at Freddie’s old time police hat. Did you notice Johns shorts? People always go nuts at the men’s short Shorts. That’s how short they wore them back in the 80’s. Queen always did early rock and roll songs at every concert. They called it their tribute to the roots of rock and roll. Please do the Sat rendition of Tie your Mother Down and with the 3 short older medleys that follow. Everyone always said they never took themselves very serious. Brian laughed in a documentary saying Freddie couldn’t speak a sentence without cussing! It was very funny and I took it as them being so relaxed that they had no issue showing their normal interaction. Brian called Freddie a brother. They were together a little over 20 years. Brian was an only child and Freddie was like a brother he never had. Makes them even more special to me.

Someone tell me which concert it was where Freddie came out for the medley part wearing a sombrero and Brian (I think it was Brian) laughed and flicked it off Freddie's head. They all loved that part of each concert. Roger said it was great because all the hard stuff was over with and they could just kick back, relax, and have fun. That it didn't matter if they forgot the lyrics, played off-key, etc. They just goofed around and sang whatever tune they wanted to at the moment.

I'm not sure why, but anytime John is dancing or having a good time, it's even more special for me. Too bad they didn't have FitBit back then. That stage is HUGE! Queen goes right into BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY after this medley. AMAZING! It must’ve been absolutely AWESOME for John to be on stage all those years standing near Freddie and his piano. I love this section of the concert! Freddie fooling around and having a ball with all the guys! Freddie and Deacy were very close and Freddie was always finding a way to get Deacy into the spotlight! Deacy considered Freddie as a mentor. Freddie telling Brian to the play the right key “fucks” was just part of Freddie’s everyday vocabulary. Whether he was speaking to Brian, Roger or the fans, even those in his home! The four were brothers from different mothers and if you can’t speak to your brother in the way you are used to speaking it’d be very difficult. And it was Spike Edney on the piano during this bit. He played piano often even guitar sometimes and still plays with QAL when they tour, Great 1st (2nd 1st reaction my friend! Catch you on the next one!

Certainly agree with what you said, except for me, no one has done "Tutti Frutti" better than the guy who wrote it, Little Richard. Of course the white folks were afraid that the "black rock and roll" would cause the kids to start fornicating in the streets, so they had to have the "softened" version by Pat Boone, who was very popular at the time. Elvis also threw in his version, which was closer to Little Richard's. In 2007, an eclectic panel of renowned recording artists ranked "Tutti Frutti" at No. 1 on Mojo's "The Top 100 Records That Changed The World" and hailed the recording as "the sound of the birth of rock and roll". In 2010, the U.S. Library of Congress National Recording Registry added the recording to its registry, claiming the "unique vocalizing over the irresistible beat announced a new era in music". And in April 2012, Rolling Stone magazine declared the refrain "the most inspired rock lyric ever recorded".

Great reaction as always Hap! I absolutely agree with your observation of John in this video. It’s what makes it one of my favorites because it’s the first thing I noticed the first time I ever saw this concert. The way that John looks at, enjoys, gets involved with and has such fun watching Freddie is brilliant. It totally shows the love and admiration he has for our dear Freddie and I love the way that John kind of comes out of his shell during this performance compared to his more serious/shy temperament. I agree it is great watching the love and brotherhood between our 4 guys. All four had such different relationships and personalities with each other. Freddie and Roger were great friends and when together were more on the wild, party side as we have always been told, even by Roger, that Roger was a party animal. So they always had fun and were kind of naughty together. I think Brian, on the other hand in his relationship with Freddie was more of a stabilizing force for Freddie and the band and was the steady, serious type that also was very hard-working and devoted to their songs and music but also liked to have fun. Brian and Roger were and still are very close, but did fight at times like brothers to which amazingly it’s been said that usually John was the one to get them to keep cooler heads and settle down...but when it comes to John and Freddie’s relationship, I think John truly looked up to Freddie as a brother and admired him very much which is very obvious in this performance. I think that John too liked to party, but was a family man with all those kids and his wife Veronica, so he was more stable than the other three in that sense. I think it’s very telling through the years how John felt about Freddie through his expressions as the years went by from having fun in the good times, to his seriousness and even somber ness towards the end when they knew Freddie was ill. He looks so sad in their last performances like These Are the Days of Our Lives. The charity/memorial concert after Freddie passed and the No One But You video are so hard to watch. You can see that John is done, broken and cannot continue the band without Freddie in it. Freddie was older than John and took him in like a younger brother and was very protective of John. It makes me smile to see all of them having fun like this because it’s how I imagine them to have been when they were all together and in the end, they banded behind Freddie and supported him through his illness and honored his wish to keep making music for as long as he possibly could. Freddie probably lasted longer than he would have by continuing to do what he loved with the people he loved and it was probably comforting and healing for Roger, Brian and John to go through it all with Freddie and to support and protect Freddie from everything he went through. Roger wrote a song for Freddie called Old Friends. Not sure if you’ve seen it or reacted to it yet, but it is such a great song dedicated to Freddie and their friendship. I hope you get a chance to see it. Thanks for the great reaction as always♥️

Great reaction Hap. Queen loved doing the 50s songs. They started out doing Jailhouse Rock for years and would improvise others in the encores until the Jazz Tour and was re introduced in the Works Tour. I'm glad they put the oldies back in. They had so much fun. The Fat Bottomed Girls concert you are thinking of was Milton Keynes 1982. Fantastic concert. This is Spike Edney on piano who is still touring with Queen + Adam. Mike Moran is the wonderful pianist Freddie worked with on the Barcelona album. They also toured with Fred Mandel in 1982 which was the first time they had an extra musician. The Live in Montreal 1981 concerts were the last ones without an extra musician. Freddie got tired of the to and fro with the piano and wanted to be out front more. I still think that the reason why he didn't move around as much in 1973-74 was because of the platform shoes. Lol. He apparently really hated them but they were the style then. He bucked all style after that and wore ballet shoes! 💛

I loved this playful, fun and yet respectful and beautifully done tribute to the previous generation of rock, wonderful. I love that Elvis song 'your'e so square' particularly,

Oh I loved this trio of songs. Just loved how Queen treated them professionally. It was great and a great reaction!!! Fat BG was at Milton Keys Bowl (the pole dance 😂😂).

When Queen played in Spain, the Spaniards were kind of quiet, so Freddie threw a glass of water at them and said there you go Spaniards, then had the sound guys crank up volume, that woke them up. So throwing water became a thing. Thanks for the great reaction.

This always makes me smile and laugh. So very cool and funny . My other favourite aspect is that Roger gets to be at the front of the stage.

Just before Queen came out their Live Aid set (1985). The comedians Mel and Smith introduced the band in their Police Uniforms introducing them by saying “Let’s introduce our next act, QUEEN!!” with both of them standing to attention and saluting.

You need to do a reaction on this exact same segment the next night at Wembley (or was it the previous night)....So FUNNY! They were all soaking wet and he and Brian were shoulder to shoulder talking about how the rain wouldn't stop....great interaction!

The red special can sound like most sounds - perhaps keys as well - but it could be Spike Edney - who has been with Queen for many years - and still is with Roger and Brian as Queen and Adam Lambert. I think you are right about John and Freddie - but somebody has to lead and that is Freddie - so they must follow him - and John is Queen's secret weapon with fantastic bass lines - and he must be on point as must Roger. It's easier for Freddie and Brian to fool around .

I think John took Freddie's death the hardest. I'm not saying the others didn't but John said 'Without Freddie there's no Queen.' And he was right in my opinion, no disrespect to Adam Lambert or anybody else they replaced Freddie with, it isn't the same. I mean, when you're watching this concert or any others, who are you watching all the time? Freddie.
