And that's perfectly ok. Some kids are more inclined to work on gross motor development first. The key is to just give them choices and let them explore in their own time. Eventually, things will even out. You might have a kid who is running around the house at 10 months, but not saying a single word while your friend's kid is holding conversations, but doesn't walk until 18 months... but by the time they're both 4, they're both likely to be running around the playground telling the same jokes about farting and poop.

that's okay! A principle of Montessori is "follow the child." These are just examples so if your little is all about climbing, then you can encourage climbing or crawling like an obstacle course.

Thank you for taking the time to explain the knowledge you’ve acquired. New mom trying to wrap my head around raising a son with so much on the market!! I’m so glad you explained what the purpose is for each toy. Thank you again. I had baby interacting with lights and sound toys, classic fisher price, and I knew in my gut it wasn’t what I wanted. The toys seemed to keep him happy and we were gifted many, and I bought into the cost efficiency. But I knew I wasn’t nourishing him. I felt so convicted…I knew God wanted my son interacting with his word with more of a purpose and not so stimulated. I didn’t know much about Montessori, so thank you for taking the time to sit and explain. It may have changed our lives. Thank you.

Exactly! I was just thinking this- and it actually makes perfect sense to introduce it at this age because that's often when babies will start to deal with separation anxiety- even if they were previously ok when being dropped off at daycare or a sitter.

I love these videos but I see so many comments with people worried their baby in this age range isn’t mastering the toys. I think your girls are ahead of the game because I’ve seen articles showing some of these toys for 12-18 months. No worries to anyone whose baby isn’t quite to this level. My 10 mo daughter definitely isn’t but I’m not stressing.

I just want to thank you for all your videos for babies and toddlers. I've been following your videos since around July/August and after watching a few we decided for our 2.5 year old Autistic toddler to take a Montessori approach to his toys. And it's been amazing how much hes flourished. This Christmas his speech pathologist sent a list home saying not to buy toys with batteries or noise, as it helps language flourish and first thing I thought of was your Montessori videos.

My son is 9 months old now, so I came back to this video to refresh my memory on stuff you said! He's pulling up on stuff, clapping his hands, jumping up and down, and "talking" like crazy. We are working on body part recognition and sign language! He is starting to develop his own signs for stuff, which is so so fun to watch. He loves opening kitchen cabinets and playing with silicone utensils I got him. Toys? What are those!?

Thank you for more wonderful suggestions Ashley! I started signing (sign language) with my babe very early (around month 2-3) he now uses the milk sign which is wonderful, he lets me know when he wants milk! I recently (about 1 month again) introduced a video called “signing time.” It is a wonderful way to teach babes and littles sign language. Of course the parent/parents need to be involved as well also learning and teaching! It is a fun way to teach them. I look forward to more videos from you, thank you from my home to yours. ❤️ John 3:16

My Little One loves instruments like bells and maracas, and anything that can be banged together to make noise. She likes to feel the sensory board I made her with various textures (fuzzy fabric, shaggy carpet, etc-I basically went to the dollar store and found a bunch of things that would be fun to feel and then glued them to a board and labeled them according to how they feel). She enjoys knocking over stacked cups. She enjoys turning the pages in her books. She enjoys splashing water and drinking from various buckets and containers at the splash table. And she love love loves playing with the dogs-Any time she’s crawling and comes across one of their toys she holds it up and looks around for one of them to come get it from her. Haha

Librarian here! The ball tracker is great because it teaches emerging literacy skills such as reading from one side of a page to another. Another you can do to reinforce this is to do fingerplays which can also include object permanence.

Love all these suggestions! Would you consider doing a video on how you introduce/model new toys/activities to Mia? I'm reading the Montessori Toddler book and it talks about how to do this, but I'm a visual learner and she seems to focus well on those toys for their intended purposes! I feel I may be doing something wrong when I introduce new activities to my toddler because she'll just take things and toss them aside but never really gets back to working on mastering any particular activity. Don't know if it's because how I model it, or if maybe I'm lacking in the "observing" area and I'm not introducing the right activity at the right time. Thanks :)

The first ever Children's House lays just minutes away from Rome's Central Station. I cannot recollect how many times I passed by that area during my university years, having no idea of what the Montessori method was about or what kind of person Dr. Montessori actually was. Sure, we all knew her face because she was on the 1,000-lira banknote (now we have the Euro, so even that hint is gone), but ignored everything about her principles. The situation has not changed so far, and Italy remains among the countries with the lowest number of Montessori schools in the so-called First World. Disheartening, huh? However, her method has not been forgotten; nay, it has flourished abroad, and your channel Hapa Family is a glaring example of how to be a better parent raising happy and self-confident children. Pretty sure Dr. Montessori would have been proud of you. And I like to think that if she is watching us from somewhere, she will be smiling at this beautiful Hapa Family of yours.

Hey Ashley! Any tips to help redirect your baby from simply putting the objects in their mouth instead of using the toys? I just bought my son a ball tracker and object permanence box after watching your videos for a few months. I’ve been trying to practice intentional play with him and model how to play with these toys. I’ve done so a few times now but he’s very interested in chewing them instead. I tread carefully in taking them away from him and only play with these toys supervised but I still worry, especially because the coins for my box are very small in size. Any advice welcomed! Hi, Can you make a video on how to introduce these activities.. I mean, the routine? Like, you have 4-5 activities… so how to introduce your baby to each one? One at a time? Or let them choose out of many? For them to master a skill, each activity should be given every single day? For how long? I have a 9 month old baby girl.. I tried introducing a few 6-9 month activities before. With some I got success but with others, maybe I gave up too soon. Mostly because I didn’t know how to go about it.

Hi! My baby is 10 month old rn but he still doesn’t let go of things in his hands. Do you have any ideas of teaching baby how to release things? Thank you :)

HOW does one get babies interested in "mastering" these? What is they prefer to just take things apart?

Thanks for your movies, they inspire me 🙏 My son is 11m old and for as long as I remember just love to take all the toys out of the low shelfs and throw them all together... he likes to jump from toy to toy or better to play with them together (taking one piece from different toy and play with pieces from other toys) How can I help him focus on one toy at a time? Should I hide all toys but one? I still want to give him the choices ...

I have the same problem here. My daughter (12 months old) has only 4 Montessori materials on her shelves and I do not think it is to much. I explain every material over and over again but she still doesn't want to play with them like I show her. The only thing she really really loves, are the books , exploring new objects and learning new words. I don't know what else to do in this case. 😅

The ball slide toy is way too expensive. There are other options like wooden race cars track to teach the exact same thing.
