People see a demo like this and think this is how it goes down on the street. Demos/self-defense training are for practising your technique so you learn how to flow with the many techniques. The more comfortable you are in doing them the easier for you to use what works best for you.

I think these rope techniques work best against an aggressor who is either drunk or high. I think that a sober fighter, even a brawler would be able to see the rope coming towards them then strike the person with the rope who would be at a disadvantage to block the strike while they have a rope in both of their hands.

By the way a true martial arts master, should be able to pick up anything...from a magazine to a broomstick... and make use of it as a weapon! Even if you never trained with a weapon in your life. It is only an extension of you.
