'Together We Grow' tells the inspiring story of a thriving hub helping to build resilience into its local community by farming in urban backyards, sewing with recycled materials, repairing bikes - you name it, Common Unity is doing it!
“This beautiful film is the perfect antidote to the cynical narrative that says people are inherently selfish... This film will melt your heart. Guaranteed.”
- Rob Hopkins, author; co-founder Transition Network
Too many of our communities, here and around the world, are facing housing crises, food insecurity, social isolation, and more. In addition, the multiple impacts of the Covid pandemic and climate change are current and ongoing. How can we most effectively confront these challenges, and help our communities thrive in an economic system that leaves many feeling trapped in poverty?
Founder Julia Milne and her team have created a completely replicable model for developing strong, connected, resilient communities - a model that could be put in place across thousands of communities in Aotearoa and millions of communities across the world. They’ve proven it can be done, this film was made to help them share the story.

It’s really insane to me that gardening isn’t some mandatory skill in life. It’s kind of scary actually. Growing up, this was common amongst our neighborhood. Everyone had gardens. Was oretty much born into it. Now in my 40’s and have my own place, my gardens are both my hobby and lifestyle. It’s just a part of me. Not only is it hardwork, but so much rewarding when you can taste the difference between store bought and fresh from the backyard. Pretty cool…..🙏🏼🤙🏼👍🏼

If the people in positions of power pushing renewables and saving the planet were genuine in what they were saying this would be what they would be promoting. They will never take the lead on this simply because there is no power in it for them so the people must stand up and make it happen.

Jordan and Antoinette this is a beautiful piece of film making. Truly inspiring and full of love. I have been a sole mother on the DPB... so ashamed that I had to ask for a food parcel and I have also worked in a food bank putting parcels together for people with mental health issues, wives whose husbands can't work because of an unexpected health crisis. grandmother's raising their own grandchildren on the pension as well as beneficiaries struggling on a tiny income. Any one of us could need this type of support at any point in our lives. I loved the main woman's insight into violent/unpredictable home lives and why some people cannot get involved because of their situation at the time. A very important reminder to never judge. A beautiful story and lovely people doing work that empowers both the volunteers doing the hard work and those they give to.❤️

We are at the beginning of a project in Glastonbury ,UK. We have a strong yet fragmented community. In the last year we have received funding enabling us to buy 22 acres of land for a community grow project. "soft place to be" were the words that brought tears. Glastonbury is know for the festival and Tor yet it is one of the ten most "deprived" places in the England, with one of the biggest traveling communities in the UK that are being bombarded by government restrictions on the way they choose to live. We are moving towards bringing our community together and would like to thank you for great ideas and heart centred movement you have taken. Inspiring!

We all have to learn to take care of ourselves and others and the environment with the energies of sharing and learning how to make a difference in our lives together with kindness and care for the betterment of our lives. Ask around and see if you can find a place of interest in your ability to garden and the way to make a difference in your life and other people's lives. Thank you so much for this truly inspiring documentary! Makes one humble and passionate to create a better world. To start something..Anything. Plant a seed. Anywhere. With..anyone. Think" I've never done this so I think I can do it" (Pippi Longstocking :)) or rather "We've never done this so we can do this"! Love from the Netherlands (Amsterdam) and keep the spirit alive!. 😍💜💪👨‍👩‍👧‍👦🍀

Very inspiring film. It gives me some good ideas and left me with a feeling of wanting to connect more with my own community. Thank you, I think I needed that inspiration. I agree that part of the mental health problems that people suffer from are due to a lack of connection with themselves, their community, and with nature.
