In our current configuration we have not had an awning issue but in our pop up, oh wow did we. In our pop up it was an awning that you put up and leave up you can’t roll it in until you lowers the top, well we left our camp site for the day and a wind storm came in and we had a heavy bug zapper hanging from it well the wind blew it up like a sail, and the bug zapper landed in the roof and cracked the top, had to have insurance claim to replace the entire roof. The next time we had it up and it rained, it rained so much that it collapsed, ripped the grommets right out. So we learned our lesson early and have totally prevented any issues so far. A tip from us would be to add a second layer of safety and add a quick release to hold the awning to the frame, have seen folks that it has let go while driving and rip that thing right out of the side.

Florida born and bred here... poppin' in to say I have LOVED all of your Florida videos! I know every single place you've gone to, and watching you freak out about all of our native wildlife (yes, I'm including bugs in this scenario) just makes me smile. Biggest tip for anyone coming to FL - gators don't care about ya. As long as you ignore them and stay away from them, they'll leave you alone. If they feel threatened, they'll hiss. If you antagonize them, they'll rush you. But they aren't the first aggressor. Other tips - Rattlesnakes, Copperheads, and Cottonmouths are all venomous. Don't F with any snake you find in the water. 99% of the spiders you see are non-venomous (though maybe big and scary looking). Raccoons, possums, squirrels are all friendly, but will take your food... don't feed 'em just because they're cute! Enjoy our sunshine, soak it up before you have to go North to where that dastardly snow is! I'll think of you fondly... in February... at the beach... when it's 80º.

Hey Amy! Thank you so much for taking the time to write this out for us, we totally agree with you. Awning story: Bought one of our previous RVs, a 36' Fleetwood Bounder in July 2007 from a small dealers RV show in Fort Lauderdale. Took it to CB Smith Park that same day. We did not know (We was NOOBS) about lowering one side of the awning to let water run off. So, late afternoon, in Florida, set your clock: 4:00 PM, Storms a rollin' in! I was NOT going out with a metal pole to try and over the awning in the middle of a lightening storm! I watched the awning filling up, but there was still the huge lightening storm. Finally, I panicked and went out to try and dump the water by pushing up the middle. At that moment, BOTH arms broke in the middle and the awning collapsed on our NEW RV! $2200 later, and a drive to the dealer in Tampa, and we were finished with THAT awning lesson!
@HappilyEverHanks3 жыл бұрын
Oh no! Those storms do roll in fast so makes sense with the metal pole! We actually forget to do the tilt one side trick a lot. But we usually keep it in during rain anyway! Thanks for sharing your awning story! Sorry it happened! Hope you have a great weekend! 😃~Renee & Kyle

No Carl, Florida is not the only state where the sun shines and it rains at the same time! Where we live here in northern Michigan not only does sometimes it rains while the sun is out but if you stay too long into winter it can snow while the sun is out. (Lake effect). I know, crazy, right?

I have seen so many awnings getting damaged over just the past year, I get panicky every time the wind gusts just a little. Just this past weekend in a Jacksonville Campground, a fellow Grand Design owner left his awning out, while they left the park to get some dinner. A Florida afternoon storm came through and the weight of the water broke one of their awning arms. Ran into a similar situation when leaving that park. I pulled up to a branch I thought we could clear. Had to back up and and then drive in the wrong lane to get under it with out hitting the A/C unit. I usually like telling the parts when we run into low branches. They don't know if they don't know... Anyway some of the parks have been appreciative and say they will have the maintenance staff take care of it. So far only one park, we stayed in was not receptive to this feedback. They actually told me if I didn't like the way the trees and brush was growing in, I was welcome to stay elsewhere. Guess what... I have not been back to that campground and it is less than an hour away from my house. Enjoyed meeting y'all and hope to meet up again the next time you are in the south. Safe travels!

You asked about awning issues? On the very day you posted this video, we were making a tight turn into a campground and the passenger wheels on the rig went into a soft shoulder which put the coach off camber. Unfortunately, there was a fence post that killed the front arm on our rear awning as well as taking out the grab handle by the door as well as a few scars on the side of the coach. So we feel your pain. Sadly, we had to replace the arm and the handle but now all is good.

YES!! Dad jokes will keep coming 😂🙌🏼 Actually the camera rate that was being shot almost matches the headlight beams in such a way that they appear to be blinking. It's almost like filming a helicopter with the perfect frames per second that give it the illusion that the rotors aren't rotating 😃

Literally just got back from couple days at a state park. Very glad almost no one was there as I was driving left and right then left and right in both lanes to avoid the low branches. No, I did not stop and say anything. They work for the State government! The park was named for a cave that is there. They filled the cave opening with gravel and put a fence in front of the gravel! What up with that! Enjoyed the vid! Kevin

Hey Kevin! Thank you so much!! Glad you were able to navigate the low hanging trees and it wasn't busy there! 😱Yeah you would think that the trees would be maintained a little more especially with all the big rigs these days lol So were you ever able to visit this cave at one point or was it a cave that you would just see from the outside only?

Well . 1. Florida State Parks have tree branches that move and can grab your roof. 2. Lived in CA for about 2 years. Nothing is normal in California. At Fort Clinch State Park, We stopped just in time before a big branch did damage. Kevin got up on top on the Fifth Wheel and held the branch up while I creeped it over to the side more. We told the rangers where the tree was too low. The State Parks say they keep the trees trimmed to a certain height but our Cruiser at 11.5 feet was suppose to be OK. Trust by always Verify!!

Mom and I have an awning story with our old pop-up camper. We were camping in Wi (yes I hauled it from Fl to Wi - work trip) and got caught in a horrible storm one night. There were multiple tornadoes in the area, and we were closely monitoring the weather. A bad storm came our way and our awning started to move! I ran outside and was holding down the awning (manual one) in the pouring rain and my mom opens the door and hands me a rain jacket. Mind you I am using both arms to hold down the awning, and am already soaking wet. My mom came out and we got the awning rolled up during the storm (it did break and had to be replaced). It would have made some good footage that is for sure...it was a site having these two vertically challenged women trying to roll up this awning and using foot stools to reach the top. Once we finally got back inside...just standing there soaking wet with the storm raging outside all we could do was look at each other and laugh.

8:14 - Winning🎉 ||| 15:45 Not sure about state / ranger managed parks, but at least one KOA I was at, stated in the multi-page rules, no tree cutting. (They hire a pro tree company to trim branches). Only issue with that; if you are in a hurry, a camper needs to do what they have to do, in order to leave the space. 🙃 I have heard more than one rig press into a tree, (cracking sound) , one rig bumped a tree hard, (heard that thump), as the back end of their rig swung out. The RV’ers that did not tag trees in this section, backed out, reversing the direction they came into their spot). Forward leaving was too tight of a turn. Every spot in this park was low on side room, to do much maneuvering . (RV life within the well known / big name, high $, pack-them-in park).
