Thank you for watching and asking great questions! To soak your orchid in the milk and rice water mixture, you only need to soak it for about 15-20 minutes. After that, the next step is to allow the orchid to dry naturally in a well-ventilated area, away from direct sunlight to avoid burning the plant. The milk and rice water mixture can be used as a recovery method for orchids, but it should not be used regularly as a primary fertilizer because it may alter the pH of the medium. For healthy orchids, it’s better to use a suitable fertilizer and follow a regular feeding schedule.

Question, Do you put the holes in the ceramic pots you use or do you buy the pots with holes. I ask because here in Canada I never see them with holes. Also you left the orchid to sit in water for three hours. I let mine sit an hour should I let them sit longer?

Thank you for your question! I usually buy ceramic pots that already have holes to ensure proper water drainage and prevent the plant from waterlogging. If you can't find pots with holes in Canada, you can drill holes in the pots yourself to help water drain and protect the roots. Regarding soaking time, the duration can depend on the condition of the plant and the environment. Soaking for 1 to 3 hours is typical, but you can adjust the time according to what works best for your plant. If your orchid is doing well after soaking for one hour, you don't need to soak it longer.

However, in addition to moss, you can also use other orchid potting mixes like pine bark, perlite, coconut husk... Depending on the type of orchid and the environmental conditions where you live, you can choose the most suitable potting mix. If you live in a humid area, using moss or a moss-based mix would work great.

Rice flour can be used, but you need to dilute it with water to avoid harming the roots due to its high concentration. Rice washing water (the water after soaking rice) contains a moderate amount of nutrients and is ideal for orchid care. If you use rice flour, dilute it with a ratio of about 1-2 tablespoons of flour to 1 liter of water to create a suitable solution for the plant. Try it out and observe how your plant reacts! 🌿
