Happy Camp is the third section of the popular Montana Mountain Loop. An amazing trail for the scenery alone. This trail winds you along the border of the Superstition Wilderness area deep within the Tonto National Forest Hewitt Station OHV area. Make a weekend trip out of visiting as there are many campsites with a view and some tucked back with a bit more seclusion towards the top of the mountain.
A fantastic experience for a newer off-roader as they can really cut their teeth and build their confidence here as it checks the box on not only great camping and fantastic views, but key driver skills including off-camber situations, shelf road, rock obstacles, switchbacks, and potential water crossings all without being extremely aggressive.
Happy Camp Road also provides access to over 170 miles of networked hiking trails that run deep into the Superstition Wilderness. The Arizona Trail (Hiking) crosses Happy Camp Road at three different points. It is an 800-mile hiking trail traversing Arizona from the Mexico border to Utah. The crossings are part of passage 18 - Reavis Canyon - which runs from Picketpost Trailhead to Rogers Trough Trailhead.
Connect these three trails to create the Montana Mountain OHV Loop:
Section #1: Hewitt Canyon Road
Section #2: Rogers Trough
Section #3: Happy Camp (this trail)

I want to take a redo at this trail. This was my second trail that I did. At 1:28 I was nervous and turned around 😢 I was worried I was going to get stuck. But after seeing how you did it. I want to take another shot and send it.

Totally understandable! That is the hardest part of the trail for sure.

Looks like a peaceful trip besides all the boulders you have to get over lol. I def need to get back out there. We took the kids to Globe and Miami today. Love making it out that way.

The outside temperature gauge doesn't change when in 4 low. Threw me off when I first got my JK. Once back in 2wd it will go back to normal, but its set like that from the factory.

That is so odd but now that you say that every time that happens I am in 4WD. Why would they do that….Thanks for the intel.

I just ran Montana Mountain on Saturday. The first portion of FR650 is significantly more washed out than shown here. Some sort of traction assist - locker or braking, would be necessary to get past this feature.

Last time I ran this was early June when I filmed this. That first section is definitely rough. Hope you enjoyed the trail!

Nice video! What are you doing walking back for your camera? Throw it into reverse! I can't wait to hit this trail again -- I was out there a year and a half ago with passengers in the back seat who didn't enjoy the rough ride (only made it about half way around).

@@Trail89Adventures Hey---tried to send you a message via instagram the other day. I think it blocked one or more of the messages. I was trying to point out an interesting hill near the Superstitions... it seems it is already marked in trailsoffroad anyway, so you probably already know of it.

You seem to do a lot of solo exploring, and I enjoy your videos, and your knowledge of the state. I've run solo as well, since I'm relatively new to Arizona, am my mom's caregiver, and haven't made any good friends yet. I'd be honored to wheel with you (if you are interested) and learn the trails out here in AZ, but I don't know how to do private messages on KZbin to send you my contact information. I live in the northwest valley and for the next month have 7 day availability, but after that, just weekend availability. If you know how to message here, shoot me a PM.

I am out solo a lot mainly because it seems like a last minute decision when I get to go out. Always open for a trail run though. I don’t think you can message on here but you can on Trail89Adventures Instagram page I believe
