That's awesome. I have two questions that I've been wondering about for awhile. 1) What percentage of your resident's food comes from stuff grown at your place? 2) What is your position on insects and veganism? Do you extend the same or a similar amount of emphasis towards protecting insects?

1-right now I’d say a very small percentage of food for the herd is grown at the farm, like Less than 10% Most of the animals here eat hay, the hay is grown locally (within 20 miles) 2. I love this question. It’s a hard one. On the one hand I want to protect the herd from flies and ticks and fleas. But where does the line end? I ask myself that question all the time. What gives me any right to value one living thing’s life over another?? So the short answer is…I’ll try to deter the unwanted insects in anyway that I can…it’s something I’m still trying to work through and understand. I don’t know if that even properly answered your question!

@@jonteddstuff that's basically how I do it. I learn about the insect and try to make the situation uncomfortable for them so they want to change their reservations.

I was just curious if you counted insects as beings to care about in general. It sounds like you do. Some vegans don't include insects in that sphere. Causing harm as part of your duties to protect those living on your sanctuary is different than causing harm out of pure convenience (swatting a fly for being annoying for instance).
