honestly i love this so much cause i feel like quite a ton of people over look Kel as sorta a character whos there to be sort of a comedic relief character and overlook how he too probably suffered just like aubrey, hero etc bit kept it to himself for the sake of his friendship and this video just shows how he too was definitely suffering/coping just in his own way, keep it up and congrats on 18k!

Honestly I agree. I overlooked him at first but after playing again… I started to feel worse for him. He had to be there for his brother, he was sorta pushed to the side during it by his family too… he didn’t have anyone really by his side for awhile too but never really complained… he’s a really strong character, and now I 100% advocate for Kel.

A comment i saw months ago and just couldnt forget was about kel being the most mature among the group, he was there to comfort aubrey on maris death day(when hero was taking her out of the tree), was the first to be able to actually get over and you know, move on, and (most likely could of been) the first to forgive sunny and basil(aubrey would be super angry and hero wouldn't be even able to look at them, which is understadable as we've seen how much they suffered from it

Kel is a complex character if you look deep into him. He has been masking. It’s sad because he felt like he needed to, both to make himself happy and others. He was confused and felt a lot of pressure onto him, which is making him sad. The fact that he didn’t even only mask, but also lied to himself adds onto it. It’s slightly depressing to know a lot of people, especially in the game, see him as such a sunshine. He really is sunshine, but maybe we should check on him. Not once in the entire game has anyone checked up on him seriously, even his parents. The graveyard scene really broke me, it was horrible that his parents ignored him while Hero was the one that had to comfort him, which means that he was the one that probably cared for him more than his parents ever will. It’s upsetting. Not to mention the fact that people see him as some kind of side character or a character that is just there for comedy. He did so much, like, the good ending would’ve never existed if Kel didn’t knock.

when you look at the headspace counterparts of the characters, you can see what emotion helps them the most in battle. Omori: Sad Aubrey: Anger Hero: also Sad and Kel: Happy those are the emotions they always presented after Mari's death. Sunny/Omori became a shut-in, Aubrey became violent, Hero was sad bc he lost his girlfriend, and Kel had to put on a happy face to keep moving forward. just a neat fact.

Honestly i'd argue in a weird way, Omori represents Neutral. He has skills built for every emotion (Stab for Sad, Lucky Slice for Happy, his general attack power for Angry. Also skills that counter the three emotions respectively) and his place on the emotion chart is Neutral. This is because Sunny repressed everything about the incident, making the Headspace in the first place to protect himself from the truth

this is perfect for kel, the entire 4 years for kel was spent masking his feelings with a smile, to the point where he had gaslit himself into thinking he was okay, but with the ending where basil kills himself, he finally breaks. hes such a well done complex character and its really said to think that people overlook him :(

ive even seen a literal therapist overlook that aspect of him before, and with kel as a comfort character it hurt me mentally a little bit. but yeah, i guess that just goes to show that he's a pretty easy character to overlook in terms of trauma, mentality, etc. i genuinely think he might be the most emotionally stable of the group but also one of the most neglected and that sucks.

I'd say the best character comparison comes from Doki Doki Literature Club as Sayori (More explanation and spoilers for both games) Sayori was exactly like Kel when it came down to coping with depressive thoughts, doing so by making sure everybody else felt happier around her which in turn, made her feel a little bit better. The shameful thing is at the end of Act I Sayori commits S**cide because the way she was coping no longer helped and the constant increase of depressive thought thanks to Monika made it no better. This makes me feel really bad, because when I think a little deeper into it, I really wonder what would become of Kel after Basil and (depending on the ending) Sunny commit S**cide too. They all have been through so much in Omori.

But it also saddens me how some will choose to think Kel’s coping well with Mari’s death and not learn more about him when he’s clearly not okay. On the outside, he puts on a happy face. Okay but actually!! This is awesome!! So many people overlook poor Kel, but when you get to know him you find that he as a person, and how his coping mechanisms and mindset effected him is a lot deeper than one may expect. I've only played the game for about 32 hours thus far, but I love all of the characters and seriously want to play another thirty or so hours just to pick up on more details that I missed. In all seriousness, Kel is my favorite character, and it made me very happy to finally find some Kel content!! Though the context hurt my heart, the art style paired with the music and how it's all synced together helped tremendously, lol. Have a biscuit!! Also, why did you have to hit us with that line of dialogue at the end 🥲 EDIT: I also just noticed that you added an OMORI sound effect at 0:24! What a fitting touch!!

I’ve seen so many Omori posts and animations describing literally every other character’s grief but Kel. Which is okay, but I feel like Kel is a bit TOO underrated when it comes to talking about grief because (like shown in the video) he masks it with a “happy face”. This was really refreshing to watch as we get to see him crack, even if just a little…cause we all have our breaking points, including the “comedic relief” characters.

@@chaus1ku yeah, its the unfortunate side affect of being the goofy character. i see it a lot in a lot of different fandoms, like with papyrus in the undertale fandom. theyre goofy and aloof most of the time, so people assume thats how they are ALL the time. completely ignoring the serious moments they have, which show how capable they actually are.

Kel is such a complex, deep, comedic relief that feels just so... Human. Like, in most movies and TV, the comedic relief character is just there for the jokes, and is rarely ever given depth and perspective to their backstory. Meanwhile Kel is a perfect representation of a human being that has their own way of dealing with their emotions and grief. He has his feelings about Mari's death, but chooses actively to let his friends be more important than said feelings. He is such a deep rooted and loveable character. Kel is already my favorite character but DANG IS HE OVERLOOKED! People mostly just see Kel as the carefree and optimistic one but he always has a smile on his face just to make others happy. So much in fact that after 4 years , he had to literally convince himself everything's going to be okay. Kel is a really well written and just overall amazing character! If there's one thing I note, it's that Kel is the healthiest character in Omori. He has a good handle on his grief and general stress, and people would falsely believe he just moves on, when really he'll think about it and try his best in working with it. Mari is gone? He'll be happy because that's something she'd want from him. Sunny is secluding himself? He still needs his friends, why not pay a visit or five? He brings up what Mari wants quite a bit when the situation arises and in a sense I think he's paying his respects to her. I like the boy, one of my favorites

In general I relate to Kel so much, especially the way how he copes. When my sister died I felt the need to show everyone that I was ok and that they didn't need to worry about me. In the end I didn't ever really cry anymore and I ended up starting to guilt trip myself for not crying or showing visibly that I was sad, and it made me feel like I was a terrible older brother. In the end this was a song that for some reason I would listen to when I needed to mask how I felt and put on a happy face.

whenever i'm introduced to something new i always have this kind of attraction to side characters instead on focusing on the main character themselves bc mostly these side characters are the ones that you relate to the most when i first saw/watched a full gameplay on Tuonto's Channel i got attracted (NOT ROMANTICLLY) straight to Kel immediatly i pretty much like or favorites these kind of side characters where they have so much potential of having good backstory with a lot of angst so basically i target those who more Happy.. so yea this is how i know when some character has a good storyline that can actually make me cry :D

WOW this is just AMAZING i absolutely love your art and edits,, they're just,,, so cool!!!! AND the details in this video !! LIKE: the fact that throughout the video, KEL is shown to be in some sort of stage, since you can see there are stage curtains and a stage light shining down on him, WHICH JUST SHOWS FURTHER THAT HIS "HAPPY FACE" IS AN ACT!!!!! thats soo smart!!!! oh yeah, and when he's wearing his Headspace clothes, you can see Headspace backgrounds. and when he's wearing his Real-world outfit you can se Real word backgrounds!!! and i also love the expressions in the characters ..... like SUNNY in that scene where he's shown with his eyes closed,,, representing his denial of MARI'S death.. Its sad, i mean its obvious how Mari's death must have affected all of them. Hero wouldn't get out of his room to eat and go to school, Aubrey became violent, Sunny felt ashamed and started hallucinating, and having nightmares, and Kel probably tried to light up the mood everyday not knowing it would affect his mental health badly. He must have been feeling so confused about how to fix that.
