For bridal shower gifts I make a set of these with the different seasons and/or different holidays. I have never seen the pattern with the batting. I can imagine the ends are rather bulky.

Fusible fleece is a great option for placemats and table toppers

You could very easily make the top as a pieced quiltop and still do the same process for the backing and the way it makes it a really easy border. The concept is great!

Love your tablerunner. I've made several of these, some with batting, some without. I have the same black cat fabric plus two others from the lines and treat bag panel. I love cats and Halloween.

Do it with squares, would give you the complexity you want while still being fast.
