Forest Bridges: The O&C Forest Habitat Project

Forest Bridges: The O&C Forest Habitat Project

Күн бұрын

Forest Bridges is celebrating National Forest Week by posting educational videos for the public that speak to some of our collaboratively developed Principles of Agreement for Active Conservation Management on the 2.9 million acres of O&C public lands in western Oregon.
The present condition of much O&C land differs greatly from precolonial conditions due to the removal of Indigenous people, fire exclusion, past forestry activities, and inactivity.
These changes have contributed to increased combustible fuel, increased densities of trees and simplification of stands.
To address these conditions: Forest Bridges promotes continuing active and "let grow" management strategies that include harvest and prescribed fire treatments tailored to dry, moist and transitional forests.
Collectively, we call our strategies: #ActiveConservationManagement
Underpinned by cutting-edge Science, Indigenous Knowledge and land management agency experience, our Active Conservation strategies can benefit forest health and increase fire resilience to:
*Protect legacy trees & support the progression of forest aging over time
*Sequester more carbon and add biomass where needed
*Decrease the risk of destructive wildfire
*Address climate change impacts and promote forest sustainability,
while continuing to provide wood, non-wood and economic values.
We appreciate the following video for sharing the history of the key factors that have contributed to the current deleterious conditions on much of our forested public lands.
As well as for sharing Tribal perspectives on the way forward.
