Happy New Year!/Feeding Fermented Round Bales/New LED Tractor Headlights

As 2023 comes to an end, we want to wish our viewers a wonderful new year ahead. After a week of wet weather, the cows were eager to get outside and stretch their legs. Before they can go out, the bale feeders need to be refilled with baleage. Baleage is a fermented round bale of hay. Alan uses the Gehl 4625 skid steer to haul out the heavy bales. Later, Alan replaced the dim and burnt-out lights on the 830 Case tractor with some new LED bulbs he found on Amazon. The new bulbs seem to be a huge improvement.

I have learned so much about family dairy farming by watching your videos for the past two+ years! It seems you work 24/7/365! In good weather and bad, with equipment and tools that sometimes work and sometime fall apart. You pay attention to the condition of the soil and crops, the nutrition in the feed, the health and comfort of the cows. Now when I go to the store and pick up a gallon of milk, a package or two of cheese and some sour cream, I think of your family and the cows. HAVE A BLESSED AND SAFE NEW YEAR!

Continue dairy farming ! I just read some sad statistics about dairy farming in MN. In just one month,,,,,,NOVEMBER OF 23..........58 dairy farms in MN went out of business. In the year 2023 ,160 dairy farmers went out of business. I retired and sold my herd in 2007 at age 62. In 2010, 4 years after I retired there were over 4,000 dairy farms in MN Today that number dropped to 1,825 Watching your video is an inspiration !

The newer lights are so much better like years ago. The regular headlights stunk couldn’t see good at night and everything and then I went to halogen now they got different Lights that are brighter things LEDs in the so long and so forth good move. 20:57

When you put in LED bulbs, smother the connections in dielectric grease. This will prevent the terminals from corroding. The slightest bit can kill the circuit boards. It's not the diodes that produce the light that fail. Have a very safe and blessed new year.

Those Par36 are used in so many things they have become very economical and LED is one of the few things that makes old equipment better. Although to be fair, if they made better quality wnd efficient incandescent lights, but because of history, so we don't have that option. A One thing that I hate about LEDs is looking at them in a farm store. The companies are getting those things from China anyway they're not making them in the US or Canada or even Mexico so they're not paying anyone even somewhat locally to make them. But they sure are proud of them and the packaging that gets wrapped around them because they'll charge twice or three times as much for the same product that like you said you can get off of Amazon. And I just don't know who is buying that and why they don't buy them on Amazon or eBay or something for cheaper. It's pretty easy though upgrade and equipment throw a new lights. One hard size to find is I think they're par 56s for our Ford 3000. And probably was a common size back in the day and it could give more light cuz it's a bigger bulb that was incandescent but finding a decent LED has been hard. And even the cheap ones they want a decent penny for those. But the difference it makes not to mention you can add more lights cuz your draw is so much less If you wanted to double your lights you could and you're still not going to draw what you wear with those handful of incandescence so your alternator is happy. But we we put those on my dad's 4400 combine and it was almost like a fancy new combine with how bright the lights were compared to the old ones. I would still like to put some more on it because it just doesn't have that that many lights. I guess kind of went on rant here and that's how I feel about LEDs😂. baleage........I would think it is better for the cows vs CHOPPED haylage as it is long stemmed hay. Also, baleage makes the hay more palatable vs the same dry baled hay. I wish I had a wrapper when I was dairy farming.

Sure hope the new lights last you a long time. The LED's can be very bright. We put a 100 watt equivalent in our yard lights and you can definitely tell that they are on, just hope the neighbors aren't bothered by them. What a difference from last winter. Those were clips the Board of Animal Health required if you wanted to take your cows to a fair. Now they switched to rfid button tags.

This wet weather is not good for animals and alfalfa or winter wheat, never mind the holes in my rubber boots 😅 we have had lots of flooding here in Ontario. I think snow would have been better. It looks like somebody stole all the cobs out of the corn cribs, they look empty.
