I recently found your videos and I'm appalled at how many criticize you for using a base when it's for fun, hell..I know people who make art for 100+ dollars and sometimes use bases! I even make them so beginning artists can practice and learn on them..I'm sorry you have to be barred with so many unwanted opinions and "improvement" statements. I can see from your drawn art you're learning and Improveing as you go! I'm proud to see you've had the courage to still post fun videos like this despite the horrible let down of the comments. Keep drawing and have fun.

I just don't like bases for a couple of reasons, which I will list -You can't learn anatomy if you use them all the time -They limit creativity (You can't come up with your own poses, etc) -Every drawing you make will have a different style, and be oddly inconsistent (You can't make your own style by using other peoples') -Bases are stolen too often and people are not credited, and it starts drama -Base artwork usually looks bad, and you can always tell if someone used a base -It's just a cookie cutter None of this applies to bases you've made yourself, because you are actually drawing it. I know people who commission in sets do this to keep the work level down and the consistency high. And on another note: Don't use bases for something you are profiting from. You didn't even do the whole thing.

Tip for FireAlpaca: to select multiple areas with the wand tool, hold "shift" while you select. To deselect a area with the wand tool, hold "control" while you click on that area.

By the way, I don't have any problems with base, and I believe you can do anything you want with your art, but for your own good you should practice anatomy a lot more. I'm not requesting you to stop using bases you can use them as long as you want. But I think that for your own good, as an artist. You should learn to draw anatomy, and have a basic understanding of it. Even pony anatomy.

You know, you can change somethings color using the eraser. Put the color you want to change as color 1, and put the color you want to change it into as color 2. Then right click as you change their color.

I think It's cool! Just maybe try practicing without bases? Not saying you should stop, just only try! If It doesn't come out like you wanted it to, then try again! But your drawings with bases are still amazing!

Hi, I'm sure you've been told this many a time but, I don't intend to be rude but I hope that you understand so long as you use line tools and bases for the final lineart of your art then some people won't recognize how good of an artist you are or that you're an artist at all. I don't mean to tell you that you must switch over to hand drawn lineart but at least try to transition. I hope that you weren't offended by this.

Faded Animations u know artists are allowed to have fun right? and that they dont always have to be "the best they can be"? bases are fun. no one needs to be absolutely on top of it 24/7. also not to mention that bases help new artists with a ton of things like practicing hair/clothing proportions, coloring, and it really DOES help to learn body proportions when you get to work with a reference up close and personal. this is all coming someone who some would consider a "professional artist".

dragonairlover I never said she should stop using bases completely, I apologize if I didn't make myself clear, I recommend learning to just as capably draw without them. You say that by using bases you can improve lineart but if you never draw without bases then your lineart won't improve. I am aware that Jenny does occasionally not use bases but those instances appear few and far between. One last thing, are you saying that all artists shouldn't strive to be recognized as great artists?

Faded Animations i mean okay so. people have to draw on the hair and/or clothes onto a base so yes to some capacity lineart can improve. and are you not hearing me when i say that a great artist can still have fun and use bases sometimes? i use bases when i want to use the canon mlp style and also when i just see one that i think would be fun to use. that doesnt mean im not good at art, or that im squandering my talent. im having fun. also yes i kind of am saying that people dont have to strive to be seen as a phenomenal artist. by pressuring people to improve rapidly, or to stop doing what makes them happy in order to become a better artist, youre weeding out anyone who sees art as just a hobby, something to do when theyre bored. not everyone who draws is striving to be professional. i like to make tiny sculptures but in no way am i looking to improve to the point of professionalism. i just do it because it makes me happy. art doesnt have to be serious all the time.
