Since I think a lot of children watch this channel it’s really good to see a great cage off a hamster that will hopefully inspire kids to upgrade their hamsters cage. A lot of people have inadequate cages but with this video I hope the want to have a bigger and better cage like this one. Good job 👏

Nowadays I know a lot more children that research but idk think if would help more if they mention the bare minimum and don’t call it a mansion otherwise kids might show their parents and they would be like that’s them we can’t afford/don’t have space for/such as small animal doesn’t need so much space (a mansion)

@@thatdoocoo5658 Not really any more so than the small cage. For one thing, the new habitat is large and accessible. The small cage would be much harder to get to all the little spots. Also, with a cage that large, you only need to do a real cleaning about every month, maybe even two if you are super diligent about spot cleaning.

hi im SO glad you listened and gave him a fitting home! the only thing i want to comment is the plastic decorations and glue. Hamsters like chewings on things, they shouldnt chew on plastic figures or lego nor glue! toilet paper rolls are super useful and fine. The LED is also very bright, remember its a nocturnal animal

This is such an improvement. If you put in even more bedding (around 20 - 25 cm) and push / press it down to the ground, he might start living underground and you might be able to watch him build his own home :)
@anna13ppp
@anna13ppp 6 жыл бұрын
Plus I would put something on top on the right - he is able to jump out and at one point he might do it ;) Also you can just throw the food for him in the cage - then he has to use his nouse to find it. It's a little more natural for him, because in nature the food won't be in one place as well :)
@tezzanoia
@tezzanoia 3 жыл бұрын
@@anna13ppp scatter feeding definitely is a good idea with most small animals, however especially hamster can struggle with it, so it's important to make sure they don't loose weight with this method. If they do, it's not the right way to feed them. As long as their weight remains healthy that's a great way of feeding tho! I use it with my mice too, they seem to like it way more than just having a bowl actually

As a hamster channel who fosters and rescues hamsters and advocates for better care, this was so much fun to watch! Your excitement for giving Happy better enrichment was inspiring. I'm so happy you took the advice of the community, did your research and decided to upgrade Happy to something bigger. I like the comment you made in the video where you said you could see Happy better. That's one of the best points i try to get across is that smaller cages are so claustrophobic that it's hard to interact and see your hamster besides them becoming stressed by being trapped in a box size home. I hope this video will inspire other parents with small kids to think about getting the proper care for their hamster because it's so fulfilling when you give them what they need. Hamsters are still considered "Throw away pets" because after awhile the child or person loses interest and usually it's because of the enclosure they're in. It's unfortunate that both Petsmarts "Tiny Tales" line and Kaytee "crittertrails" are made so small because bigger cages are much more costly to make and don't sell as well, but hopefully we as a community will change the way we see hamsters because the more people learn, the more we can push petstores to make and sell better care for them. So thanks for being an awesome family by considering the health and wellness of Happy. :)

Great job. It was fun to see the parents having such fun decorating. I am sure your hamster will enjoy the new home. We built lids with wood and chicken wire. It makes it easier to lift or take out for cage cleaning. I also have that castle and the IKEA magazine racks. You are right that chinchilla dust is not good but chinchilla sand is perfect. There are many of us on KZbin with IKEA Detolf cages and some made larger cages. I recommend to check out HoppingHammy's channel. It is amazing. Very enjoyable video. Thank you for sharing.

thank you SO much for taking the comments you’ve gotten into account! so many people don’t know that most of the hamster habitats sold in pet stores aren’t suitable for them & not enough people do the research to give them the best lives since they’re an inexpensive pet to buy, they think because they’re less than $20, that everything for them is going to be cheap. I advocate a lot for hamsters since I’ve had them my whole life & they deserve to be more than a toy. I’m glad you’re setting such a good example for your kids and your subscribers. thank you, I hope happy lives a happy life with you guys 💜

i'm glad you guys upgraded but i'm worried no one else in the educational hamster community mentioned the stress a hamster can go through when being moved to a new cage. it's always helpful to provide as much (clean) bedding from the previous cage into the new cage as well as toys, hides, and chews so that the hamster's scent is in the new cage. they are scent oriented and moving to a new home is scary and stressful as they don't know that they are safe. but it's great you guys are upgrading, learning, and doing lots of research to take the best care of your pet and give him the most enriched life you can provide!

Great tank! Y'all did a cute job. Im glad y'all put a lid and put a different house in the sand bath bcuz they like to bathe with privacy & their no bottom to that house & Happy would of definitely jumped out with out the lid. Oh and also you should put a tiny litter box in the corner of the sand bath area to make clean up easier. Being in the corner is the most important thing tho bcuz they use corners to go to the restroom. There is videos how to do the whole process.... Also it's a good thing yall have a wheel too big for him bcuz the smaller ones can be bad for their backs bcuz it bends them too much and will hurt them in the long run.

I have 2 suggestions for you I think you should add more toys- you could use some toilet roll tubes to make little toys and there’s lots of good ones for sale I also think you should add more chew toys in. This helps keep your hamsters teeth healthy and wear them down Also, it may not seem it but a hamster can easily escape from the top. You could easily diy a cage top for a detolf. I suggest watching Victoria Rachael’s video on using a detolf for a hamster Such an inspiration Love all of you

This an amazing cage for happy!! So glad you switched to this one instead of those happy tales cages. I have 1 recommendation, you should put the water bottle down a little if possible because in the wild, hamsters drink with their heads down (when they drink from a stream)as if they're drinking from a bowl and it's uncomfortable for them to drink like how you have the bottle now❤️❤️

I actually just put a small bowl in the cage and refresh the water everyday. It looks like they are drinking from a pond :D

@shutupsavannah2195

They are desert animals, they don’t typically drink from streams. They are much more likely to drink dew off of plants, sometimes that’s above them
@DenieceLaanen
@DenieceLaanen 5 жыл бұрын
@@shutupsavannah2195 I know that Gerbils are desert animals, but never heard that (dwarf)hamsters are too. The normal habitat of a hamster is "steppe" (grassland) and not desert. Water is more available in those type of habitats.

It is so great that you take Happy’s care so seriously. You started out with critter trails and ended with the detolf. You set such a good romodel for young kids, many of them see “oh cute hamster in small cute cage! I want one” *hamster suffers whole life.* Instead you shows these small cages are bad and big cages are good. You are spreading the right information and educating all the parents and kids watching this channel. Although I don’t watch your toy videos, you can expect me to be back for more hamster videos. I always love to watch when people get educated, and I loved your journey. Good luck!

I love love the new cage. Thank you for upgrading your cage!! One recommendation I have it to use more products that are made for hamsters. Like the train tracks and things are not made for hamsters so if he chews on them it could be unsafe. Another recommendation is to not have the things all the way at the top because hamsters are great at escaping. I noticed you didn’t like it when he chewed on the decor, to prevent that I would give him a variety of different chew toys for him to chew on. Thank you for getting him a good size cage.

You do not know how happy I am to see Happy's habitat improved! (Haha) You listened to us hammie owners and improved your hamster's life and your own honestly since it looks so much better and modern even! Thank you for teaching all your younger viewers the proper set up for a hamster and not those dreadful 'happy tails' or similar 'critter trails' which make hamsters stress and feel contained if housed for long periods of time. I've looked through a bunch of comments and seen you're still making improvements even! Now you can see him better and be able to interact with him easier. Hope Happy lives a good 2-3 years in your now amazing care. I personally am not interested in toys anymore, going into highschool next year and all that but will be looking forward to more animal vids! I'll show your channel to my siblings too. You've earned a new subscriber anyways💗
