Like to many naive young groups of the 1960's, the Turtles were ripped off by their management and record label which led to the groups breakup around 1970. What you see here are the lead singer Howard Kaylan (lead singer) and Mark Volman (primary back up singer), but it appears the other 4 members have been replaced. This a part of a summer tour in the USA featuring The Cowsills, The Turtles, Gary Puckett, The Association, The Buckinghams and The Vogues. They will be in my area August 10th.

@Arlo360-Official2 жыл бұрын
@@RJ-qb4bs Thanks for asking. I have followed this tour off and on for the past decade, maybe even more. It's a shame that the years, age, and health of the artists has pretty much turned this tour into a mere shadow of what it once was. I was actually front row one year when "Flo" handed me the microphone to provide the Ba-ba-ba-ba ba-ba-ba-ba during their encore performance. Back then they had almost all of the original lead singers and not just the bass player. And they could all still sing. Gary Puckett still sounded good, but no more. I've seen him perform enough to realize his little pauses feigning a "friend" in the audience or someone off stage making him laugh were just covers for when he couldn't remember lyrics or hit the notes. I won't pick apart every featured artist/group on this 2022 tour, but what I watched here was more like a Tribute show. And it was really sad to see what Flo has turned into. He should go home and be with Eddie. Nevertheless, here's my take on any and all bands, tours, etc. that probably should have hung it up years ago: So long as people continue to buy tickets and enjoy their show, I'm happy for them. It's these audiences that are probably the one thing that keeps them from turning into trolls. So God bless them. As for me, watching this was what convinced me not to buy a ticket this year. I'll let my seats go to someone who will enjoy it more than I would.
@RJ-qb4bs2 жыл бұрын
@@Arlo360-Official Wow! Having Volman (Flo) actually handing you the mike during the show I hope is a cherished memory! And I understand what you're saying. There's a lot of older bands still out there with very few or even just one original member. Foghat, The Marshall Tucker Band, Foreigner, The Doobie Brothers, and Lynyrd Skynyrd come to mind. Sometimes I guess it really comes down to whether you want to see such bands or just remember them as they were. I saw the original Foghat and Foreigner way back when, but have no desire to see their present day bands. But I did go see Lynyrd Skynyrd a few years back because I really wanted to see Gary Rossington perform. As for the Happy Together Tours, it's true some of the performers aren't what they were before. A few can't hit the notes as when they were younger, and members have changed too. The 2022 tour include The Vogues, who have no original members now, but members who played with them over many years before at different times. Would I travel to see Gary Puckett, Mark Lindsay, The Buckinghams, or Chuck Negron at their own shows, no. But because the Happy Together Tour is so different that it includes many performers singing just hit songs back to back, I think it's a fantastic idea and a great experience for those who have never seen it, and most especially for younger people interested in the music. That's most important. Ringo Starr has been doing something similar for a long time too with his All Star Band tours. I've seen the Happy Together Tour three times, and Ringo's All Star Band twice. I don't know specifically why these Happy Together performers continue to perform. It could be that they need to do so financially, or just love doing it. Either way, or both, I'm just very glad that they continue to perform so that everyone who wants to see them can while they still can. I can indeed imagine the joy of someone finally seeing for the first time a group or singer they have longed to see perform because that happened to me. Three Happy Together tours ago I finally got to see, and meet after the show, The Cowsills, one of my most favorite bands! Not the original lineup, as others have passed on, but still a band of family, and wonderful harmonies. If not for the Happy Together Tour, that wouldn't have happened. Arlo, thank you for your thoughts. They're much appreciated. And I hope your next concert will be a great one!

The Vogues' line up has changed many times over the decades. Even ownership of the band's name has changed hands a few times. You can read a good bit of their changing timeline here on the Wikipedia link... en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Vogues None of the original members are in the band now - Bill Burkette and Don Miller have died. Hugh Geyer retired in late 2012, and Chuck Blasko, as far as I know, still tours with his own band. The trio who perform in the band presently are Troy Elich, Royce Taylor, and Bo Wagner. @@RJ-qb4bs I’m very familiar with the evolution of the band and the purchase of it by a now deceased gentleman whose son now runs the band. I am also aware that some years ago the original lead singer and the original tenor re-joined the band . The lead is now deceased and the tenor retired. I spoke to members of the band years ago and always was a fan. But the fact is: No original members similar to the group which calls itself the Dupree.
@RJ-qb4bs2 жыл бұрын
@@francisruggiero8361 The Duprees. I haven't heard that name in decades, but it rang a bell! So long ago, I had to look them up, and there it was... "You Belong to Me". That opening line, "See the pyramids along the Nile" is why I remember it. Why? I've always wanted to travel Egypt! Thanks for including that reference! Getting back to The Vogues, I know now that the current band doesn't include any original members, and I thank you for letting me know. I've edited a previous reply stating so. I haven't checked specifically, but there must be more than a few older bands out there touring with non-original members, and a lot more with only one, like Foghat, The Temptations, and Foreigner. It's a business, bills have to be paid, and I wish them well. And, of course, the internet can shed light on almost anything these days, who's playing with whom and so on, so one can see if they want to see a certain concert or not. But I would like to think that there are enough of us who like all kinds of classic music, that we can look past the business and personal part, and enjoy a good show from dedicated performers who put on a good show! Howard Kaylan hasn't been able to tour for years now, but Ron Dante has been a wonderful substitute. I understand this situation, and enjoy his inclusion. I only hope that others do, because this tour is so much better than the crap that is out there!

I saw the Happy Together tour this past summer at the Count Basie Theatre in Red Bank, NJ. The show was terrific. I finally got to see Professor Mark Volman perform in person after all these years! Although, I wish the legendary Howard Kaylan had also been there. Incidentally, Mr. Kaylan’s autobiography, “Shelled Shock,” is a great read for all rock & roll fans. I’ve seen The Association perform several times over the years. The first time I saw them was during the summer of 1972, at the Schafer Music Festival in Central Park. It was the finest concert I have ever attended. At the Happy Together concert, Del Ramos (brother of the late, great Larry Ramos) and Paul Holland represented The Association at the show. I was sorry that the great Jim Yester was ill and was unable to appear at the concert and that his fellow original Association member, the wonderful Jules Alexander, was not there either. Hopefully, Messrs. Volman, Yester and Alexander will be at the 2023 Happy Together concert.

@@tomgoduto3943 Yes, Howard Kaylan in his autobiography, stated that the great humorous schtick that he and Mark Volman used on-stage, resulted from his parents taking him and his brother as young kids to see the great Louie Prima and his beautiful wife-singer, Keely Smith, at a nightclub performance at Las Vegas. Howard never forgot the great musical and comedic rapport, Louie and Keely demonstrated at that Las Vegas performance and he later used a similar routine in his hilarious on-stage act with his old high school buddy, Mark Volman.

Rich, you are so verry lucky to have seen the tour so many times, which included seeing Howard Kaylan, and perhaps Micky Dolenz too! And I understand what you're saying, but there's a lot of people who have never seen the tour, and though it may not be as good as it once was, it's the only way anyone can see it now. I've seen only the last three tours, and I first went to see it because of The Cowsills, a favorite. When I met them after the show the first two times, I told them I wish they would tour by themselves so they could perform a lot more than just the five songs they play on the HT Tour. Susan was quite impressed that I knew of "Newspaper Blanket", "Mister Flynn", and "Captain Sad..."! I'll still keep going to see the tour each year, if only to see Susan, Bob and Paul perform!

@@RJ-qb4bs I originally went because at the time (10-12 yrs ago?) my daughter pulled the Turtles G hits cd out of my collection and started playing it like crazy.....so having thought of them I looked for a show to bring her to which was a Turtles show....fun too that we got to meet Howard and Mark after the show!....and thn found the Happy Together Tour which my wife and friends have been going to ever since..They were always fun...this years was a let down...I saw Micky Dolenz, Mark Lindsay,The Cowsills, Chuck Negron, the Buckinghams,Mark Farner, Gary Lewis, Mitch Ryder, the Grassroots with the fake lead singer,the Association, Gary Puckett, and many others. The design of the show is good in that 20-30 minutes of many of the acts is plenty as Howard had said. Howard and Mark own the show. They can continue to own it but should take themselves out of it. Unfortunately most of the acts from that time are getting too old.You can now see the model being copied with 70s and 80s bands.
