@@newgameaaaa Too many factors influence today's world. -The pandemic is one and slow every production to a crawl. -World bank did a stupid move in 2018. They put the rate to near 0%. The rate is to control the inflation. Everyone thinks Biden did it but in actually it was suppose to increase in 2014 during the Obama administration. Obama tell fed not to raise rate up because it's his last 2 years in office. By 2018, Trump pressured the fed to lower the interest rate to near 0%. That's where inflation started to hit really high. Only last year and current time did US increased the rate up. Basically it's to fix the messup done in 2018. -Ukraine/Russia war. Wheat and fertilizer (nitrogen) are a major factor in the world economy. If this is interrupted like right now, the world food industry are affected worldwide which drive food price up. -Climate and weather change. The season has changed and delayed by 1 month late. This affect growing and harvesting food. Beside this, the earth rotation has move 2-3% northwest meaning like Texas would experience a much colder climate (polar vortex and Siberian weathet) every year. Food would be scarce. Only the wealthy country can afford food while poorer country are on it's own.

I've been collecting strategy guides since the 90's and most of them, while awesome to have, there are a ton that either don't include everything or it's filled with typos or incomplete sections; looking at Grandia and The Legend of Dragoon, for example. Absolutely TERRIBLE guides. Then, there are the Dark Souls books; they become somewhat useless since they received updates over time and the equipment stats don't reflect what's in the guides.

I love my physical collection spanning Master System, NES, GameBoy, SNES, N64, PS1-5, Wii U, Switch and recently getting into Xbox. I missed out on everything Sega after the Master System, and GameCube. I've looked around at getting into collecting the older consoles and games, but the reality of 20+yr old hardware and games ... especially when I don't have the nostalgea for it, makes emulation a no brainer.

I think the biggest problem with the ”difficulty” of finding games is that you can no longer get those thrift store finds, people watching Pawn Stars and Storage Wars think that they’re sitting on gold mines… TBH, it’s taken a lot of fun out of the hunt. It totally takes the wind out of my sails when eBay is my “go to” for games. 😔 All the little shops I used to go to are closed, GameStop is nowhere near what it used to be, and I just live in a tough area for a collector. Being a family man, it’s not easy to go to Cons either, which are probably the last bastion for getting decent deals. And yes, if itwasn’t for emulation/modding, there are a lot of games I probably wouldn’t have hunted down… This is why I hate it when people scream “piracy!”, the moment I mention it.

The little shops part hurts. Even 5 years ago I could still find games in the most random places…. But most of those places have now closed up and the ones that haven’t got wise (which I don’t blame them for… but still). I still find good deals yardsaling, but if I’m being honest with myself, there are very few thing I actually “need” for my collection. Mostly I just want that hit of finding something or getting a good deal.

Johnny, I've been subbed to you for a while now (through my other account). Your enthousiasm inspired me to start my own channel. I always figured that me being located in the Netherlands wasn't "valid" or interesting for people to watch, but I realized that maybe, that gives an interesting new perspective for people in the hobby. So I decided that I would no longer have that hold me back, for me to share. None of my IRL friends are interested in retro collecting the way I am, so I really wanted an outlet for my own enthousiasm. So thank you for that. I grew up not very well off, so I only had access to the Nintendo handhelds for most of my childhood and teenage years. I'm happy that I have physical copies of pretty much all my favourite games from those handhelds - the Pokemon games starting from 2nd gen (Silver was my first game), the 2 Golden Sun games on GBA, and most of the JRPG's and strategy RPG's on DS and 3DS. Since I missed the ball completely on pretty much all consoles of the past (my first consoles I ever owned were the Switch and PS4), I rapidly abandoned any hope of revisiting them from a collecting standpoint and focused my attention on Switch collecting. It has a great variety of games, a lot in genres that appeal to me, and I absolutely love collecting for it. I currently have around 280 Switch physicals and I anticipate hitting somewhere around the 400-500 mark by the end of its lifetime. It will probably be the first and last console I seriously collect for. Though I don't plan to ever sell my collection, I'm interested in how the Switch and its games will be regarded by gamers and collectors in 10-20 years' time.

The PlayStation 1 was my childhood I played that system to death from 97 to 2002 :D resident evil 2 final fantasy 7 and Symphony of the night changed my life

PS3 and Xbox 360 are the big ones for me. I find collecting for systems and games that are in that 7-15 year old range to be the real sweet spot. I’m a weird collector in that I don’t have big collections, but games that I genuinely play and enjoy :)

Sega Genesis was my first console in 89 and as much as I played it throughout the years I’m still discovering and collecting games I missed out on back in the 90’s not to mention newly released games to this very day. As a bonus Genesis games come in a rather indestructible clamshell case making CIB pretty easy for collecting.

I love Turbografx-16, N-64, Atari Jaguar, Genesis and Wii/Wii U. My absolute favorite console to collect for that is VERY affordable, both original release and a vibrant homebrew scene, is definitely the Intellivision. PS1 used to be my favorite to collect for as a teenager in the late '00s / early '10s, but things have gotten out of hand with all the price gouging. I'm just happy I was able to get most of the games I wanted back then. Retro game collecting as a whole is just something you had to be into at a specific point in time, but thankfully, if you only want to play these games we also have other options such as emulation.

I will always say the handheld system with most resale value is the 3 ds . Most people take the uniqueness of the 3d function for granted. This uniqueness will make many people nostalgic. The library is also amazing . My favorite system

I am not a collector by any means, but I have picked up a few more physical copies of Switch games than I have for other consoles. Partially due to the limited on-board memory, but also because Switch cases just look really nice together. They're just fun to collect. I only have a handful but I will definitely be expanding my collection. Also on the lookout for some solid PS4 games since they're bc with the PS5. Congrats on Russel for running a shop for 13 years! I do exactly what Russel said, which is try games first, then buy them if you see a deal. Imports are a good way to go for stuff like fighting games and SHMUP's that don't require dialog. I missed out on the 16-bit era since I didn't have money at that time and was living vicariously through friends who had those consoles. Probably the most surprising has been Turbo Grafx/PC Engine. I'm loving those games.

I'm just mainly focusing on Xbox 360 right now. It was the console of my teenage years and means so much to me. I don't have much money, but I have built up a substantial collection of (good) games from thrifting and OfferUp lots. People just want this stuff gone. Eventually I'll get back into Gamecube, PS1, N64, etc collecting once I finish school.

This is sometimes a hard choice for collectors. It depends on collecting to play vs just to collect. Collect from childhood memories vs game play style/genre. Me, I do a little of all. I mainly collect gameboy game due to memory and to see how they program for a simple system, Rpgs, and Fighting games.

I don't think the Neo Geo will ever be forgotten. It's nearly on every system to download for. Now their making Snk Bar top arcades. You can even buy a mvs consolized system and buy a mvs multicart. Plus the Switch has neo pocket games now, Cardfighters Clash, Big Bang Pro Wrestling, Mega Man Power Battle, Just waiting on Faselei. I believe the Neo Geo games are going to be strong in the video game community for years, at least digitally. Great video👍

I respect so much your opinion on emulation...it's about preservation and enjoying the games....if they are available on eshop or any other way thats what I rather do, however sometimes the route of roms and iso is the way...good luck playing Snatcher, policenauts, sunset riders and so many more...

Slightly different take. If you do have a massive collection, do make sure you’ve taken photos of it and it’s included in your house contents insurance if it’s more than the general limit. If in the event of a total loss you can prove you had a collection worth ££££ with photos and spreadsheets then it’s not going to make the pain of losing your collection any less, but it will help you rebuild your life. Personally I still have my N64 through Switch collection and it’s going nowhere.

I’m not being a collector as such , but I’ve kept all games I bought for my consoles over the years. Casually adding titles here and there when I found them at cheap prices. Usually when the next generation were in hype mode. My ”line” goes like this : Nes , Snes , PsOne , N64 , Xbox , Ps2 , Gamecube , Xbox360 and then got stuck with PC. Nothing fancy out of the most common ones. I don’t have particularly many games for each one , but I DO have the ones I want. The number for each varies between 8-26. Sidenote : I also have my old ”home-computer” CBM Amiga500 from Commodore , which was mostly used as a gaming console here in Europe , to be honest. When the 2nd and 3rd generation consoles came along , I bought loads of games for the A500 for almost nothing. There I land on 148. Now they go for ridiculous amounts.

Man I feel old! I still can't believe the Gamecube is 22 years old now. I remember it was before the summer in 2002, the Dreamcast was pretty much dead, and I couldn't afford the PS2 so I settled on getting the Gamecube for a little less than full retail price because a friend of mine worked at Wal-Mart and could get it for me at employee discount. Everybody would come over with beer and we would play stuff like Spider-Man, UFC: Throwdown, NBA Street, Simpson's Road Rage, Bloody Roar: Primal Fury, etc. Then not long after that the hits kept on comin like speaking of which Star Fox Adventures, F-Zero GX, Metroid Prime, Viewtiful Joe, then eventually Resident Evil 4, and so on. In 2006 Zelda Twilight Princess was on it's way so you were riding high if you were a Gamecube owner back then. That's why when rumors started circulating that Nintendo was going to kill off the system we were taken aback like, "Why? What the hell?" It truly was a remarkable little system but if the prices are jumping up these days then I agree; get it however you can via emulation. You won't have to worry about a Memory Cards, there's save states, graphical enhancements, and many other features to modernize the experience. 😇

I'm a compilations guy, so I leans toward ps2 for collecting Taito Legends 1and 2, Capcom collection 1and 2, Snk Collection, Midway Treasures 1,2,3. Megaman Anniversary, Megaman x collection, Metal Slug Anthology, Sega Genesis collection, King of Fighters collection, Samurai Showdown collection, and many more. It's like having an arcade in your living room, coming all from your PS2.

I mainly collect for PS4, which has by far become my favourite console of all time, so many great games. I’m at roughly 1,000 physical & 500 digital games. I buy purely for playing, not for investing. But I’m still slowly working on completing the full Sega Master System (NA only) collection, something I’ve been working on since the 90’s. But I also pickup games for all current & retro systems based on what I’m interested in playing. I have loved video games since the early 80’s, it’s my obsession. ☺

It's amazing knowing that some of my old games have collected in value but I personally don't want to get rid of them. Most of my games represent a story / time where I really enjoyed that. Don't want to give it up for a few dollars more.

After growing up with the PS1 and later having a big PS2 collection. I had to get rid of a lot of my old games for the PS1 & 2 through various moves. I tried getting my old PS1 games but that’s already too far into being too expensive. I’m starting to slowly recollect my favorites from the PS2 that are still within reach. A ton are, I was even able to get both Persona 3FES and 4 in factory seal for 60$ together. Also got all three Devil May Cry’s for super cheap. So amazing games can still be bought for cheap on the PS2. PS3 has a ton of amazing games within reach. And I got the PS4 way late into its life and was able to get a huge collection of over 60 games in an incredibly short time just buying used games on offer up for 10$ sometimes. PS4 collecting has been by far the easiest and most accessible.

I love art books on video games, so this is what I've been collecting, thank god I've bought Metal Gear Solid I-IV more than once, just in case.

I have been mainly collecting gameboy games. Most are under 50 dollars and can still be found at retro cons under 40. With the exception of some of the higher dollar ones. I don't have the space and mainly just collect games I will actually play vs having a huge swath of games sitting on a shelf collecting dust. For me it's about having quality games vs quantity.

NES is the only console I do any serious collecting for, fine with everdrives and small collections on other consoles.

One console I love collecting for is the famicom. It’s like under 5$ a game and even if a game sucks it looks great on a shelf

Yup the 360 games are a good way to get In, especially since you can play a decent amount on series x and some of those with enhancements

Looking for U.N. Squadron for 12 years or more, then getting it for $24 at Game Dude! North Hollywood a few days before Christmas was just PERFECT. I've emulated that for years and it all commutated to that perfect cartridge perchance since renting it in the early 90s.

I usually target series or publishers to try and collect for one at a time. It actually helps me stay focus on completing a set or getting certain titles I wanna play. For example, at one point I decided on getting every “small soldiers” game since I knew they weren’t the most expensive besides the game boy game. Then I later focused on legacy of kain and now all I need is the first game “blood omen”

I sold all my games lately, and replaced them with flashcarts. My real kick is really to play on a crt with the OG consoles, so that was a good solution for me.

Sega Saturn for me. I was lucky and started collecting about 10ish years ago before prices got stupid crazy. Have most of the heavy hitters and a tonne of imports. Panzer Dragoon Saga still eludes me however...someday..

If you're going to collect for 360 make sure you get the latest model ,slim E it's called i believe.

My favorite console to collect for is the PS2 the most because the quality of games were so great and there are only a handful of games that I don't like. Also, there is a huge library for them.

i am enjoying hunting some DS and 3DS games. playing them on the console will probably always be the best way to play those games because of the dual screens.

I have been collecting for the Playstation consoles for several years, I like it and I have a nice collection now ;) I am between being a serious collector and a nostalgia collector, I like to collect some games because of their value and rarity, some games because I like them, and some because they are classics, I dont collect sealed copies, but in general I want those games because they are part of PS history and part of my favorite consoles growing up.

Myself it’s arcade boards/candy cabs, 3DS games, ps3/4, switch and some snes. Buying a house now to get more space is the issue :(
