For me Ocarina will allways be the greatest game ever made. The only people that will really understand why are the ones who played it at launch or in its time. For me, some of the greatest games of all time are: Call of Duty 4, Minecraft, Sonic the Hedgehog, Donkey Kong Country, Super Mario 64, GoldenEye 007, Street Fighter 2, Need for Speed: Underground, Aggressive Inline, Worms 3D, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 4, Tony Hawk's Underground, Ultimate Alliance, Spider-Man 2, Guitar Hero 2, LEGO: Star Wars, SSX Tricky, Kya: Dark Lineage, and RuneScape. I am getting an N64 soon and hope to get Ocarina of Time. I have seen a gold one for £35. Not sure if it's worth it at that price. Thoughts?

I love you guys, seriously. I grew up in this period, it was magical. Walking through chronic weather to get to my local mag shop, (3 mile round trip here in Wales) for my zx spectrum mags, then Nintendo, snes, etc over the years. Get home and read through them, jaw open at the stunning images of games to come. What makes oot more poignant for me is in my situation, my 'oot' friend, sadly took his own life many years ago, he was the one who could afford oot and a N64 first all those years before when it came out. I was mind blown, I couldn't believe what I was seeing, nothing else came close. Good times, good memories, and I love hearing guys like you gush over those sort of memories, I don't really have any friends left these days who are into gaming like me and you two, they're all far too normal 😂. Ocarina of Time is my all time favorite game. I didn't get it when it first came out but I got it a little less than a year after (around Sept of 1999 I believe). I had originally rented it in early 1999, probably in February, after a friend of mine was saying "man you've got to play this game!!" And back then I had no idea what Zelda was and I was mixing up the title with that Viking Chess game back on the 64 because Zelda sounded Viking(ish) to me. Anyway he said "no man it's awesome, you've gotta play it!!" And so I did. I went to Blockbuster and rented it one weekend. I was blown completely away. I found that I was enjoying every aspect of the game. I remember going through the Deku Tree and just being amazed by everything I saw. A few months later I bugged my dad into buying me the Ocarina of Time Official Nintendo Power Player's Guide (which I still have) even though I didn't own the game. I was that in love with it. I rented it several more times and finally asked my grandparents if they'd get it for me. They agreed and I got it. I rushed to my room, popped it in the 64 and started my long journey!!! For the next 2 years that game was pretty much all I played, or well mainly what I played. I had beat it probably a few months after having it but I would go back again and again to the game doing extra stuff, collecting heart pieces, fighting Ganondorf over and over. To this day I still consider this to be my favorite in the series. I really enjoy the entire franchise but this game holds a very special place in my heart. It was a game that just absolutely meant the world to me. It was the first game with a real story that I played and it showed me what gaming could be apart from platformers like Sonic and Mario. This game actually made such an impact on me, that when I listen to the credits rolling, especially the version from ZREO as the Redux version, I tear up. I've played some amazing games in my life, FF7, FF8, Crono Trigger, and many many many more, and even they don't give me the same feeling as Ocarina of Time. Call me nostalgic or say that I'm a fanboy, but this game meant that much to me.

My first experience with Ocarina of Time was in early 1999. A friend let me borrow the game and his N64. And here’s the kicker... He lent me the strategy guide. But it wasn’t a normal guide. One of his other friends took the time to photo copy the entire guide. It was crazy big because he didn’t use both sides of the copy paper.

My heart! Ocarina of Time is still a unicorn to me. Perfection. So much to do, but not overly sandboxy. The soundtrack is one that I’ll listen to. Hell, today on Spotify, the soundtrack is all I’ll be listening to today. This game changed my gaming life. My Oma got it for me the Christmas it released. I played that til the wheels fell off. Man, such a beauty. The first boss scared me as a kid, it took me like 6 trys to finally get my courage up and beat that bastard. Then, as a kid, I thought I was done the game. THEN the whole world opens up. My fragile mind couldn’t believe it. So. Good. My fav in the series(I agree with you Rob) It was/is perfect. Thanks for bringing us down memory lane guys. I also remember playing a demo of OoT in a JCPenney when I was 8. My mom took me there to get school uniform stuff (the bane of every child's existence). I saw this little game kiosk and recognized Link's green tunic and cap from the magazine. Surprisingly no one was on it, I was like the only one in the store that knew what it was or cared. Mom knew what I wanted and saw it as an opportunity to bribe me into behaving at the mall. She promised to let me play it after we finished trying on shirts and slacks. I obliged, and when I finally got my hands on the demo I did nothing but backflip for like 20 min, lol. One of my most cherished childhood memories.

Zelda OOT best game of all time, what a truly amazing revolutionary game, that first moment walking out to Hyrule field, riding Epona in that big grass field of Hyrule, the first ever Z-targeting, pulling out the Master sword in Temple of Time, the 7 years time travel to future and found everything destroyed, found out Zelda had been with us all along, the first done right 3D dungeon design, crafting Biggoron sword and the build up to fight Ganondorf, a legend!! Never ever again experienced such a mind blowing moment until Zelda Breath of the wild!

I forgot you guys were Canadian. Albertian here living in Edmonton but use to live in Stony Plain the town growing up. I remember trying to download a short 30 second clip on crappy game trailers streamer of oracle of ages/seasons (Quicktime was WAY better for game trailers back on the day, thx apple for that one I guess) with this really dark tone on the captured video. That still pleased me back then. All there was back then.

I was 14 when it came out and remember my cousin and I finding the demo kiosk in Sears. We played it the whole time my mom shopped and for once her long shopping trips were a blessing.

I think the enormous leaps in quality of video games and technology from 20 years ago really help fuel that sense of nostalgia. Makes me wonder if 20 years from now will kids really be as nostalgic for the games of today and where games will be.

Hector G Quality is quality. This game wipes the floor with 99,9% of modern games.

I remember back then there were some really basic walkthroughs on the internet that were plain text files with a basic ascii art header. Can't deny I had to refer to one to get across the desert in Ocarina of Time

I remember playing this back in 2004 for the first time. I was so happy to play it and this was after playing through a link to the past and the first game and it was amazing.
