I had the opposite experience. In the late '90s, I worked at FuncoLand, and with a couple of friends that worked with me, I convinced them to buy Saturns and pretty much all of the good stuff. With one of them, I took one of the price lists and just circled everything I thought was worth buying. We all ended up buying Panzer Dragoon Saga, Dragon Force, Magic Knight Rayearth, Legend of Oasis, Albert Odyssey, Shining Force III, Shining Wisdom, Shining the Holy Ark, Burning Rangers, Guardian Heroes, Galactic Attack, Darius Gaiden, Marvel Super Heroes, X-Men, Street Fighter Alpha 2... we were all buying these games when most cost about $20, and we all still have them. To this day, more than 20 years later, of I told either of those guys that something was a must, they'd probably just buy it sight unseen. It gave me credibility that I probably don't deserve!

When I was a teen, I've been preserving my PS1 collection of games, my mom thought that I don't need those games anymore so she ordered me to throw them all. Some of them were very rare games because they had been pirated, but the art work on the cases were actually amazing, like in MGS1. So I just did what I was told, I threw all 118 PS1 games to the trash, to this day it still stings a bit. But on the flip side I managed to get a rare downloaded PS1 case art digitally, and I remember most of the games I loved, that's close to 95 games, I guess some of them I didn't played that much.

Yes, welcome back Andrew!!! I love it when Johnny goes into his storytelling mode from the yesteryears. I can't believe you made Andrew sell his collection! I think you'll need to do some Old Testament sacrifices to atone for this sin😄 As for what Andrew thought of Lunar, I have to agree with him, even back then when I would see it in magazines, I always thought the color was dark and off. We know Genesis color palette is weak but games like Sonic, Story of Thor, and the latest Fantasy Zone port show they can be bright with a pop. I actually had a JP Mega Drive and PC Engine back in high school and I used to go to Japan during the summer break as my dad lived there. I would pick up a bunch of used games in Akihabara (Softmap stores) and rental video/CD shops since they always sold used games. And when I would return the next summer, I'd sell the games to these shops for now looking back, an absurdly bad price. Oh man, I wish I still had those games now!!! So I can totally relate. I sold games like Ninja Spirit, Gunhed (Blazing Lazers), Bonk, Gaiares, Daimakaimura (Ghouls N Ghosts), and on and on. More PC Engine games b/c I didn't really have problems having access to play the Mega Drive since I could play the US Genesis games on it and I had friends with Genesis. Really kicking myself for this. Anyway I've always been curious about Lunar and now that I have a JP Mega Drive Mini 2, I will finally play it! And Johnny, you really do owe Andrew a lifetime supply of beer.

I feel that pain Andrew talked about, realizing within minutes that you've made a huge mistake ... back in the 90s I traded in my SNES and my small but awesome collection (Final Fantasy III, Final Fantasy II, Chrono Trigger, Run Saber, FF Mystic Quest) as well as my Genesis with the lone game I had for it (Phantasy Star III) for a shiny new PlayStation and Battle Arena Toshinden. And I still had to come up with an extra $200. Learned my lesson though. From that moment on I vowed to never trade or sell off any game/system I love ever again and I've stuck to that over the past 27 or so years.

Back in April of '995, I bought Metal Warriors on the SNES thinking it would be as serious as Cybernator. Since it wasn't the internet era, I didn't know that I would find the music cartoonish and I absolutely hated the "pew pew" sound of the machine guns. I was 14, but I actually teared up a little because I was convinced that I had got the successor to Cybernator and it represented almost 2 weeks' worth of morning duty (I was a paperboy). I sold it 3 weeks later to a friend and lost about 18$ at that time. Today, I know I lost quite a lot more than that!! But it's OK, I would never get rid of my whole collection for one good game on the new console I'll just be able to wait for!!! We all make mistakes man!!! Look behind you, it cost you a lot more than what you sold back then!

The closest for me, and one of my biggest regrets was selling off my entire Genesis/CD/32X collection to get the Gameboy Advance early. We had a mom and pop gaming store called Power Gamer here in Maryland and when they got the GBA in, and I found out it was region free; I HAD TO HAVE IT. Basically I had Japanese copies of Mario Advance, F-Zero and Crazy Racers to tide me over until Circle of the Moon came out. Much like Jon, I sad there trying to convince myself I did the right thing…when the reality was I hadn’t. Unlike Andrew, all of my Genesis games were pristine. While at the time they were just boxed up in my parents basement; I can’t tell you how many times I’ve thought to myself I miss my original copies of Rocket Knight Adventure, Aladdin, Jurassic Park, my Sonic games, Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo, X-Men 2, Mortal Kombat…all these games I had amazing gaming memories with…all for having a handheld early… And it really hit me when the Gameboy Advance SP came out and I had cash money to buy it with…but there was no way I could buy that collection of games back.

However, they denied my Saturn trade ins, Quake, Duke 3D, Alien Trilogy, Nights, Bomberman and a few others. I remember the girl just starring at the games like it was yesterday.
