Strange. Everyone I've talked to have said Star Trek Discovery is trash. I'm talking about serious Star Trek fans. They hate it.

"Serious" Star Trek fans hate it because it appears to violate continuity and lore, BUT careful watching shows us that they are painting very creatively inside the lines. And of course not all the plot threads that seem to violate lore have been resolved yet. The Discovery writing team is very much aware of the 'canon' continuity, but old-school Trekkies can't watch the show in front of them, because they're too engrossed in crosschecking every line of dialogue with the Memory Alpha wiki. "Watch the show you're watching" should be a common sense rule in TV land, but I guess it has to be spelled out for some folks.

The one I remember the most said there was no plot, it was haphazardly written, and generally destroyed everything about the show. He called it a complete waste of time and "not worth a shit." It was the worst review he's ever given. I've known him for a long time and he's given some really bad reviews, but this one took the prize. He didn't have a single positive thing to say about the show. I left the US and live in a non-English speaking country. US shows are not shown here. I have software to watch whatever I want to watch. I've only been blanked on one show - Vikings. I don't have time to watch everything I'd like to watch though, so when my friend gave that review, it's a "no" for me.

Kevin, if your friend said these things about the show, he must have only watched one or two episodes, and certainly didn't watch the whole season. It's telling that he says it 'destroyed everything about the show'. Speaks to his attachment to the old series, and his unwillingness to give anything new a chance. He just wants more of the same. But to describe the show as having no plot and haphazardly written is laughably false.

He gave it a chance. Here's a thought: Maybe his opinion differs from yours. Maybe you passing judgement on someone you don't even know is laughable? Ever think of that while you're on your high horse? I know him, I don't know you. I'll continue to take his advice as he's never steered me wrong.
