Such a magnificent equine creation. She stands 17.2 hands tall ( or 70 inches at the withers)... Bigger than most boys.....and is as gentle as a lamb. She loves children.....and lots of visitors. I was at Hollywood Park for this 19th win....I wept. Long live Zenyatta....and long live her legend!

I was there for all her California. Races still get goosebumps when I see these videos. Best mare I've ever seen run.

The last time I got goosebumps like this watching a race, was in the day of Secretariat. Two very special horses. ZEN YAATTAAAAAAAA!!!

I've watch all 19 races this morning. I can't bear to watch the 2010 Breeder's Cup Classic again. A nose...a nose...my kingdom for a nose. *cry ;(*

That was the jockey fault and h admitted it. Zenyatta laid it all on the line but the deficit was to much to late

I don't think people fully appreciate just how hard it is to do what this horse did. MAYBE another horse will win nineteen straight races again, but none will do it the way Zenyatta did. There's Zenyatta, and then there are racehorses.

She really had to work for that one in the last half dozen or so strides. ♥

She had a month to recuperate before the 2010 BCC. You can bet your sweet bippy that if she had shown signs of difficulty, Shirrefs would have scratched her. She would have won the 2010 BCC but for traffic she couldn't weave her way out of in time. Mike Smith rightly took the blame. But things like that happen. One more stride. That's all she needed. As far as I'm concerned, she won. And now she's a fabulous mom of two colts!! :D

You cant have Mike Smith AND Zynyatta together. Thats not fair.

I don't think the owners were greedy. They just liked to show off this great horse to the public. What better way than to try the boys again and look for back-to-back BCC wins. Champions don't back down. Win or lose she was gonna retire after that race. As for blaming Smith for her loss I say hogwash. This mare consistently lost a length minimum when the gates opened, loses 3 or 4 more going super wide on the stretch turn yet still won 19 races in a row. What should Smith and company do? Try to "correct" her slow starts by rushing her out of the gate? She clearly had the speed to do so. Try to save ground by skimming the rail and weaving through traffic? The answer is they didn't have to do anything but let her run her race. She simply got beat by a razor sharp Blame who NEEDED to skim the inside to beat her. Put them head-to-head and it's no contest, she wins every time. Nonetheless, that's why they call it horse racing!

Mike said himself it was his fault. She was way too far back early...the farthest back she's ever been. Many 'what ifs' could be said. 'What if' she had been just one length closer? 'What if' Quality Road hadn't stalled in front her and made her lose some steps? She was the best horse in the field that day. Even Gomez (Blame's jockey) said he wouldn't want a rematch because he knew how lucky he was that day. My kingdom for one more stride. Yep, that's horse racing.

I hope the Moss' at least feel guilty for that. In this 19th race, you can see quite well that this horse was just EMPTY. She was too old and ran too many races for that last one. And why letting her start in that field of colts again? She already had broken every record for a filly, so what did they want? I guess they started being greedy...

I don’t know that it was greed, but I too believe that she should have stopped several races earlier.

Lol that’s what’s wrong with the sport retire everyone way to fast, she wasn’t empty she lost by a neck to one of the most loaded breeders cup classic fields in history. If she was able to cut one more step somewhere in that race the narrative switches everything is perspective she goes from one of the best mares of all to time to the best mare of all time.
