Love your waking tour of Melbourne CBD as a melbournian, saw many things I've never seen before as well. When you mention surprisingly that Melbourne is a city of 5 million people but with lots of parks, it's because Aussies don't consider the CBD (or the 'city of Melbourne') to be seperate from the suburbs in regards to being part of Melbourne the city. For example suburbs like Frankston, 40 KMs South of the CBD, Dandenong, 40 KMs east and sunshine, 20 KMs north west of the CBD, are all included in that calculation of Melbourne having 5 million people. But we do have lots of parks throughout the whole city, which is one of the wonderful things about Melbourne.

But I was seriously laughing as you walked straight past some of the best sights in Melbourne 😂 State Library.. hope they check out the reading room. Nope. I moved to Melbourne from Sydney and (try to) visit the USA every year, adding 1-2 new states each visit. I spend 2-4 days in each different town/city I visit, walking around and seeing all the stuff I can see, especially stuff that locals do to get away from tourists! Getting alongside locals who are willing to show off their personal favourite things about their home city or town is *such* a great way to see stuff. I'm glad you seemed to enjoy Melbourne so much. I'd love to see you all come back and do videos from spending a week or month here!

I hope you loved your time in Melbourne it looks like the only 2 things you missed was seeing the Tennis Center (Rod Laver Arena) where the Australian Open is played and the mighty M.C G (Melbourne Cricket Ground) where the A.F.L is played Aussie Rules Football and where International cricket is played they only other thing is you should have spent 2 or 3 days here because you did miss a lot more hope you both are safe and having a great time where ever you are cheers

hi just came across your trip into Melbourne. I realise you have well and truly left Oz but a bit more background..James Cook is probably known as the greatest surveyors, he sailed and mapped most of the Pacific, circumnavigated New Zealand and sailed the east coast of Australia. It was Cooks voyage that led to the British sending the First Fleet and European settlement. WE are VERY proud of our military history, conscription for overseas service is against our constitution and our forces in WW1 and WW2 were volunteers (mostly and that's for a another discussion) and served this country very proud, we remember their heroism with pride, which is why you see so many war memorials throughout Australia. To understand some history this read history of Anzac Cove, Tobruk and the Kakoda Trail...just to name a couple. Looking froward to what you think of my home city..Sydney..

Not quite. The AIF in WW1 was a volunteer army, despite the government's attempts to introduce conscription which were defeated in two referendums on the issue. There were several periods of compulsory military service, including during WW2.

The railway was worked on by my grandfather. He was part of the 2/40th Australian infantry battalion, unit Sparrow Force. He was taken prisoner of war in February 1942. He worked on the Burma railway and the bridge over the river Kwai until they were completed in March 1944. He was then sent to Fukuoka in Japan where he worked in zinc mines until the end of the war. Fukuoka is 60 miles from Nagasaki. He saw the bomb. He ate maggot sandwiches to survive. He was one of many. Learning the history of the places you travel to is one of the most rewarding things we can do.

That's weird about your wifi access from the hotel. I live in the outer Eastern suburbs of Melbourne, but (before lock-down) ingrequently stayed in hotels when the trains have broken or I have a long day at work. Regarding language... I'm Australian and some years ago went on holiday through Europe for a month. I was surrounded by the many languages of the countries I visited. Fortunately most people I encountered also spoke English (and I made do with my bad, limited French and German). However as I boarded my Qantas flight for home, I heard a steward speaking in his Aussie accent, and I felt a well of emotion. It was so nice to hear my own accent again after so long.

Jacinta Edwards we have some of the best towns, like the silo art in st James, violet town etc, but the lake up in Mulwala, even Gibson or Mt Macedon, even Apollo bay absolutely stunning there

Cucumber is Anytime weight loss food. No carbs you poor love. Pub meals are the bestest recoop food venues in Australia.. You guys were right next door to the Great Ocean Road. Plenty of people who would put you up for free between Warrnambool and Portland. Such a great area, Aboriginal middens and fossilised Forest. P.s. if you miss the city tram, other free tram comes by every 10 or 15 minutes

In my town, the first white man to have charges for murder of a native, was in 1918... still have a long way to go with a treaty, closing the gap and reconciliation. There is a calling for sovereignty.. It's very similar here, to what's happening to first nation native Indians.. Meanwhile first nation people are losing a few more of their sacred sites.. There is much spirit in this land, so fantastic to see you both taking that part of it in.
