Thank you Michel Danino for your wonderful lectures. The study of the Harappan civilisation gives me such faith in humanity. I have been pondering why archeologists have not found the treasures of the kind western archeology are interested in. Does it point, in this instance, to the fact that the population moved away from the site consciously, and therefore took all valuables with them. I always find it curious why we find treasures at all. In the circumstance of Egypt its often because royalty were buried with treasures; and Persepolis because of the tragic fire in which case treasures were lost under ash. But if a population migrated peacefully then all valuables would migrate with them, leaving behind only the possessions which were not deemed so important. In the Harappan sites this could be the case. If the Harappan population continued but in a different location then valuables would migrate too and metamorphose with time and the passing of generations. A population as aware and intelligent as the Harappin, I believe, would not squander or "lose" treasures. As the evidence implies that much of the Harappin culture has continued into modern India would this suggest that the civilisation did not die but metamorphosed into the Indian civilisation we see today.

This video is very much interesting and I have gained the knowledge about this civilization... Thank you. But, there is a mention in the video that; Archeologists does not found any writings from these sites, just like Egypt and Mesopotamia; who were using clay slates and stone slates. Is n't it possible that Harappan Civilization may be using paper like material ("Bhojpatra" in Sanskrit) to maintain their trade accounts, etc., which could be decomposed after a long time? Secondly, just like Egypt, Archeologists has not found any statues or monuments of rulers of Harappan Civilizations. So, can we say that; these rulers was not interested to be worshiped as god by their own people? If so; then can we say that, they were more civilized? If today some thing catastrophic happened; then say, after 10,000 or 20,000 years; who will find the statues of world leaders like Mr. Emmanuel Macron, Mr. Donald Trump, Mr. Putin or Ms. Angela Mirchel? That does not mean that; current civilization is not advance enough. Is n't it?

@ 42 mins - The reason why there were no spectacular monuments or structures like in the Egyptian context is probably because the Indus civilization predated the Egyptian by a 1,000 years. It's slowly coming to light that it may actually be the oldest civilization ( around 6,000 years compared to Egyptian -5,000). More research needs to done.

Vaivaswata manu belonged to devata clan in himalayas and spoke sanskrit. he came down and started dynasty rule in india at ayodhya.at around 6000 BC ,as per j p mittal (or 15000 BC ,if ramayana is timed as per mr.neel) Manu's sons and their descendents were surya vamsha(dynasty) kings and spread all over north.his daughter, ila married buddha(son of chandra) of devata clan and , their descendents were chandra vamsha kashtriyas. 5 generations later,a chandra vamsha king, turvasu was ruling baluchistan. While his brothers were ruling kambhoj, gandhar, chambal, betwa, ken etc. 24 generations later ,king andhira of this turvasu dynasty lost balochistan to yavanas or to drought ? and shifted to south india.probably their language transformed from sanskrit to tamil by now or later., this would be 5000 BC or 14000 BC,as per indian historians. He and his four sons established kingdoms in south india.this was 50 generations before lord rama . They were kulya, chola, pandya and kerala. Andhira and his son kulya ruled andhra pradesh.,i guess Kerala ruled kerala. Chola ruled chola desha Pandya ruled his kingdom. Probably the land mass was much bigger than present day. Malayadwaj was the pandyan king during mahabharatha war, around 90 generations after pandya established it. So now if south indians have some specific genes similar to people in indus valley and not found in north indians.our history explains it. Regardless of such migrations all indians are single race of sanskrit speaking vedic people from himalayan area.all indian languages including tamil evolved from sanskrit.same perfect sound and grammer and rules of poetry proves it. European languages are not perfect, have different grammer and has no rules for poetry. aryan and dravidian ,two race theory was some egoistic tamilian's imagination which the british saw as a fault line to divide india and they are experts at cooking up scientific data.

The baths resemble the 'pushkarinis' that we see to date in /near some temples ex: Tirumala and few more in the south (devuni kadapa). This site doesn't look like a place where people lived for ever, this looks like a pilgrimage place where people conglomerated/ area where ascetic lived and did their practices peacefully, hence no need for a military. Or this could be a place where international trade took place (traders dont do wars, they will go where their goods are protected)- the traders need protection like security people and tax collectors, who probably operated from the 'citadel' mentioned hence those big warehouses and sanitary system which was built according to a plan all in a row. Probably the real people's settlements are elsewhere still to be discovered.

The Indus Valley Civilization appears to have been under threat of imminent invasion.. The response was immediate evacuation of the entire population in 1900bc. It was done successfully as no human remains have been found to confirm an invasion. The inhabitants migrated East and South to safer parts of India and eventually mixed with local hunter gatherer populations. They make up the majority of local population today. The Indus Valley Cities iay abandoned for 400years until European and Central Asian migrants began to settle the Indus Valley in 1500bc bringing new language religion and the Vedic culture.

His discussion on what is a civilization falls short of some rigour. When you see brick construction and even a mini-urban pattern of existence for example in archaeology, you can immediately see what level of cooperative behaviour you need to advance to that level. All the bricks made to a standard size! Cave dwellers and hunter gatherers don't need that level of interdependence. Other criteria related to crafts etc. will happen. As regards writing, there were communities of high culture, where a word of mouth promise and trust was honored - vAk even as recently as 40 years back. And memory power was strong then as well. So no if you understood Indian cultural narrative well, writing is not a requirement!

The Andronovo culture, 2000bc- 1100nc, succeeding the Sintashta and Steppe cultures were brutal and barbaric warring cultures from 2000bc till 1100 bc. The IVC was very rich defenseless and within easy range and was never invaded before. A planned, early and systematic evacuation would be the wiser option to defending the 100 odd Cities and the huge population.

And slowly the language developed. You must understand the self ruled kings do not need a language , he is like a cell phone and he can send message to each other any where any time. the spiritual communication and spiritual power degrades and they become human kings and develop palace and language and trade and agriculture. Shame of Sanatanic barbarism in Kerala! Sambandham was a concubinage system primarily followed by the Nairs and Ambalavasi with Namboothiri in what is the present-day Indian state of Kerala. All of these were matrilineal communities. The custom is no longer observed. Alternate names for the system were used by different social groups and in different regions;[1] they included Pudavamuri, Pudavakoda, Vastradanam, Vitaram Kayaruka, Mangalam and Uzhamporukkuka. During ancient times progeny out of these morganaic union where considered higher rank in caste system and had given special titles such as Nambiar in North Malabar. Among the Nambudiri, only the eldest son was permitted to marry; this was intended to maintain the integrity of ancestral property and prevent its being divided among too many descendants (primogeniture). The remaining males contracted Sambandams with Kshatriya princesses, aristocratic Nair ladies, or from the other matriarchal castes, allowing the priestly Brahmins to cement ties with the ruling aristocracy. Since the offspring of these alliances were, as per Marumakkathayam, members of their mother's castes and families, the Nambudiri father would not be obliged to provide for them. For the matriarchal castes in turn, Sambandams with Brahmins were a matter of prestige and social status. Thus both castes benefited by contracting Sambandam. Nambudiri-Kshatriya and Nambudiri-Nair Sambandams may also be considered morganatic marriages. While the father was of higher social status and the mother of relatively lower status, the children were still considered legitimate, although they did not inherit the titles or wealth of their fathers. Due to the majority of Nambudiri men having marital alliances with women of other castes, the number of Nambudiris rapidly dwindled

If you wish or not the south was called Dravidam. When the thug like uncultured people intruded the region, the peaceful life of Indus people disturbed very much. They were peace loving people and so they did not use violence to drive them out. When the uncultured hooligans came from Siberian grass land savage behaviour intolerable, the highly cultured Indus people chose to leave the area towards their homeland south.

I don't know what you're all bickering about. But this is what it is. The R1a1 haplogroup distinctly found in some north Indian population was not found in the Rakhigarhi sample. All the other genetic clusters found in all the Indians were found. This shows that the R1a1 people moved in after the decline of IVC culture. But that doesn't mean, anyone in India directly migrated from outside after IVC because all Indians have some genetic clusters found in the genome sample in Rakhigarhi. Rakhigarhi woman was not Tamil or anything, she just didn't have R1a1 haplogroup, which is a trait shown by majority of the south Indian population. One more argument is that R1a1 had migrated out of India. This is not true. Genetic mutation history and archaeological evidence from other sites show that the earliest point of R1a1 origin is near the grasslands of Black sea. Horses were not domesticated in India and brought to India and these people brought domesticated horses. I don't know why people with R1a1 haplogroups are very annoyed with this fact. It is their history, they should be proud of it. India has had many influxes from other populations, Greeks, Mughals, Jews, Parsis etc. They're Indians as well. So in the same sense, the R1a1 were Indians too. Their descendants have a good percentage of aboriginal genetic material as well. So its not proper to call them outsiders but it is not proper to say the R1a1 were aboriginals either.

The Rakhigarhi sample was female. The R1a haplogroup is a y chromosome mutation. Females are xx. In other words, the R1a can only tell one about a patrilineal story. She was U2b. So if we want to know about her then we should look at the U2 haplogroup, and its flow to understand a matrilineal story. Saying she doesn't have R1a is basically stating that she wasn't Male. It doesn't provide us any additional information. The rest of the genetic makeup describes a clear indigenous trend since the last glacial maximum. If we're concerned about R1a, then wherever one finds the most amount of variation is likely to be the origin. Sub-continental populations have remained under sampled, but expect to see publications on the same within 12 - 18 months, as larger DBs are established.

@Shiva Sidharth gowda Sangam literature dated to 600BC-200CE . Indus valley civilization collapsed around 1800BC. Sangam literature need not necessary to mention about indus Valley civilization. Sangam literature itself mentioned oldest literature were lost in sea deluge and nature calamity. Even migration were mentioned both from north and south. And even mentioned aryan as outsider. What else you need? If literature and writing system of tamil is belong to 800- 600BC indus is only civilization closer to it's proximity.

All well settled agriculture dependent civilizations were destroyed by mere pastoralists who had nothing going for them except Iron Age tools and destructive cows and goats! They all are from Central Asia where they made their own homeland hell by overgrazing! Pastoral culture was big set back for human civilization! Illiterate but very aggressive people made life hell for well settled and peaceful people No archeologists had ever explored this view point. My own! Till this date pastoralists castes in north terrorize internet age civilization! Their streets are littered by their stray cows. They encroach airport, highway, hospitals schools temples house! The cowherd castes wants reservation, their number is big and ordinary Hindu can't do anything about them. They carry arms and politicians are their slaves!

VEDIC FRAUDS AND HINDUTUVA BARBARIS...People believe lies when they feel too vulnerable to allow the truth and its consequences to manifest in their lives. Rakhigarhi add further evidence for Aryan migration or invasion theory. First, the woman skeleton excavated from the village Rakhigarhi in Haryana had enough DNA to disclose its ancestry. An analysis of the DNA showed that the skeleton was more linked to a Dravidian tribal group named ‘Irula’, currently living in Tamil Nadu and Kerala in the Nilgiri highlands. 2. The argument was that there were no major gene flows from outside to India in the last 12,500 years or so because mtDNA (mother, woman) data showed no signs of it. yes most Indians have maternal gene of native dravidian. 3.But it was shown that Y-DNA (father) did indeed show major gene flows from outside into India within the last 4000 to 4,500 years or so, especially R1a which now forms 17.5% of the Indian male lineage. The reason why mtDNA data behaved differently was that Bronze Age migrations were severely sex-biased. The invaders were mostly male warriors. 3. The next argument put forward was that R1a lineages exhibited much greater diversity in India than elsewhere and, therefore, it must have originated in India and spread outward. This has been proved false because a mammoth, global study of R1a haplogroup published last year showed that R1a lineages in India mostly belong to just three subclades of the R1a-Z93 and they are only about 4,000 to 4,500 years old.
