Material content looks cheap,push on connectors = oxidation= signal degredation.Like everything built down to a certain budget,pay your money,take your choice,but don't let the magazine reviews,and fancy finish sway you.Weigh it up for yourself.

10 years ago these speakers were much cheaper than they are today.To build good sounding speakers diy cost half of harbeth shl5 cost:) .If you have factory you have to pay taxes and salaries.

The frame of the woofer is plastic as in Bose 901 drive units. Plastic was chosen to avoid distortion of magnetic field.

some using aluminium frames which is also non magnetic,some not.Is difficult to which is better

Plastic is choosen because of cost. It is one of the worst materials for a speaker driver because speakers generates a lot of heat inside the cabinet and the only way to dissipate to the exterior of the voice coil is the chassis .. and voila! plastic is not a heat conductor. If the chassis is altered by the heat all the speaker will suffer. To avoid magnetic problems some brands use aluminium alloys. In exacmple magnesium alloy used in many major high end driver manufacturers.

Don't suppose you've ever removed the rear baffle? I'd like to compare my SHL5 crossover to yours. Wondering if mine has been modded?

Actually never ever removed rear baffle.First removed midbass driver in order to see if rumors were correct abaut plastic case of the midbass driver.Why wondering?Have you bought used speakers?

I've bought used speakers, yes. Was curious to see your crossover, if it matched with mine. I have pics I could send you to cross reference, but I understand if you don't want to remove it. Never read anything about the plastic case...What was the story there?
