As a Motocross race announcer for twenty years, and a sound engineer for 30, i will admit i own both. The Mackies go with me to the races where i have a small mixer already present AND i know the weather is gonna be decent. The harbingers go with me where there is not a mixer simply because of all the different connections. I can say that after a year of dust, rain, getting dropped, mishandled, and whatever else the harbingers are still kicking a$$. Yes, the Mackies have a bit more of a "pro sound" to them and i do get a bit more throw but I'm covering ALOT of area. If/when the harbingers finally do let me down, i will but another set no questions asked. I like the Mackies for music quality, but for what i do they both perform great. Not to mention the price. I hope this helps. Nice review

About the mid / highs --- I demo'ed the Harbinger in the store up against the Alto, the Mackie, the QSC, the Yamaha and the EV models. I found the mid / high results to favor the Harbinger as you did. To me, only the EV's out-performed the Harbinger in the mid /high range but the performance of the EV was only slightly better than the Harbinger. I bought the Harbinger over the EV because the EV was nearly twice the price. The EV was also a bit lighter in weight than the Harbinger -- which is important to me because I do carry my equipment from gig to gig. But still, the Harbinger's performance in the high range is what made my final decision. Btw, I am a keyboardist and I use these powered speakers as a stage monitor in a band, NOT as a DJ. Most of the time we play larger places with a stage and plenty of wiggle room. But sometimes we play much smaller places and I need the oomf and high output from horns so I can hear myself as I play. The Harbinger gives me that extra edge to be able to hear my performance over the guitars/bass/drums/vox. The soundmen like the XLR direct out so I can go right to main PA mixer and still use the speaker as an on-stage monitor. I also like the 3 inputs -- very flexible since I use a 3 keyboards stack. So I don't need a separate mixer. I have used this setup with the Harbinger powered speaker for about a year and a half now, roughly 75 gigs and I would say overall, except for the weight of the unit, I'm very satisfied.

How does it compare to a rolling Casey oramp to a Roland KC or a behringer or peavey keyboard amp, in terms of loudness, clarity, etc?

The Harbingers are 500W RMS (continuous power output) power...the 2000W only refers to the speaker's peak power (a nano second of 2000W without blowing the speaker). You are easily able to use these as FOH with a couple sub's...

The Mackie sounds muffled because you had it on a certain setting. You can change the settings in the back to get the sound you want. The Mackie's fucking ROCK. They're also really good for electronic drums!

Thank you for pointing that out... it was exactly what I was thinking during the test. Other sites reviewing the Mackie Thump talk about the settings and how it doesn't always sound great right when you buy it. That's too bad, but Mackie gives the ability to tweak the sound, and isn't everyone different on what they want in the sound?

Great comparison of these two speakers. In this video, the harbinger sounded clearer than the mackies, especially with the mic test and i like the fact that you can adjust the bass and treble on the Harbinger. I bought a pair of the Harbinger vari v2315 on sale on black friday, and i went with the harbinger speakers instead of the mackie thumps or jbl eons, not because of the price, since i could of bought more expensive speakers in the thousands, but because i like the sound of the Harbingers than the other two and some others, i think it sounds louder and clearer, and has more mids and highs, and the bass is great and not overpowering like the mackie thumps or jbl eons. So far im loving the Harbinger speakers.

The Harbinger Vari series have a great sound, but the previous versions that I have lack the power needed to be main speakers, I use them as monitors. I would like to test this new 2000 watt series to see if it can handle the power needs of a deejay before I can give it a thumbs up as main speakers.

Flat: A graphic equalizer has usually 31 sliders, one for each frequency band, which will cut or boost each, plus or minus dB. Usually you will set the EQ to tailor the room, cutting out booms and eliminating feedback ring. Looking at the positions of the various sliders suggests an EQ "curve". When all the sliders are all halfway (O dB) and in a straight line. That is called "flat".

Nice review. I've heard the H's over a year ago and thought they sounded decent. I just returned a brand new pair of AltoTS312's. I wanted to like them but there's to many reviews out there about the tweeters blowing up! I got Mackie 15A's at the same price and discount as the Alto 12's. As a 43 yr Dj I've been around the block and back and with age as a factor, I don't want to lug a sub, so Mackie Thumps have always delivered for me. It was a hard decision but it had to be dome.

I love the Harbinger Vari series for monitors. They produce a very clean sound for the singers. However they are not good for use as your main speakers in my experience. If you push too much bass into them the limiter will shut them down for a few seconds and this will occur constantly until you lower the volume or adjust the EQ. I own a few of the 600 watt version, hopefully they've made this new 2000 watt version you're reviewing much better at handling power, but I doubt it.

Yeah, I own the 1st and 2nd versions, I skipped the 3rd version and bought the 4th version, I haven't had any problems with the bass cutting sound on the 4th version even when playing full range. The first and second version I usually turn the bass to zero and the highs to about 2 o'clock and let my subs do all the work. I haven't heard of any problems with the 3rd version but unfortunately the 4th version has either a problem with the crossover or the driver. My highs went out on one and I had to replace it under warranty at Guitar Center. I haven't had any problems yet with the replacement.

Yeah, SRM 450 V2s are actually incredible speakers, and they are built really well! The plastic case is super thick, and the frame of the woofer inside is really heavy cast metal. They appeared to have neodymium magnets though, so they are not actually super heavy. The boxes are padded on the inside for sound, and have really good cable management! Funny story about those cables though, someone before me took apart one of my school band’s speakers and messed up the wiring. It ended up touching the rear of the cone and rattling. Our equipment, though owned by the school, is cared for by the students, so I was allowed to fix the issue, which is why I’ve seen the inside of one. Our all-school assemblies (which usually include music) sound just a bit better now!

The true test is putting a 4 pc or 5 piece band through them. How they hold up. How they manage the load. How they keep from limiting and distortion. I'm not sure these companies understand the need when we're looking at speakers. They falsely advertise power and their speakers can't hold up a decent volume without clipping. Not cool.

You have to remember.... your comparing 2,000 watts to 1,300 watts. Then you said the Mackie sound muffled... what did you even use to play both speakers? The harbinger has a bass and treble knob so I'm sure it'll sound decent on a cellphone but play that Mackie on a mixer that has treble, mid and bass then compare the sound .

That Harbinger speaker body design looks just like the QSC Speakers. I have 2 QSC K1 K10 2,000 watt speakers and hopefully at somepoint on i will get 2 of the Mackie Thump15A's or the other version with the screen. Can i control the speakers with the Mackie Thump device controller app to also control their/there EQ's? Which version of the Mackie Thump 15's has the screens? I wanna getthe QSC 3,000 watt 18 inch subwoofer but it is soooo frickin expensive! Brand new. When'ever i buy speakers and subs, i always getthem brand new. Just incase of the used ones would have any issues/problems outta nowhere Ya know. ( No offense to anyone, not hating on anyone ) - That Harbinger speaker has the exact body enclosure design just like the QSC Speakers. QSC K speakers are 8 inch 10 inch and 12 inches. I wish they had a 15 inch QSC K. / K.1 Speaker size. I chose the 10 inch because it's less price than the 12 inch i think. it costed me $1,500 for to buy 2 K10 K1's.. For a notice, i'ma DJ that is 24 Years old and i been DJ'ing for about i think 7 years now. I used to have 2 rockville 15 inch Speakers for awhile. They sounded honestly pretty good but i have had them for awhile. And then about 7 months ago i sold my 2 rockville 15 inch speakers ( Both rockville speakers are 800 watts ). Then i went to Guitar Center and did see the Mackie Thump15A's but i had my parents with me and they told me not to get those. They told me and wanted me to get the QSC K10 K.1 10 inch 2,000 watt speakers. I sound tested the QSC ones and my parents said they sound pretty good. To my personal opinion, they legit sounded kinda shitty. I sound tested those Mackie Thump 15A's 1300 watt speakers and i was like oh my god holly shit i want to get these Mackie Thump speakers. But my parents forced me t obuy the 2 QSC K10 K1 Speakers. I have been using the QSC speakers for many years aswell. They do sound okay but i like those Mackie Thumps the most. But hopefully i will get those Mackie Thump15A's as a birthday gift or a christmas gift. I do like the QSC's and Mackie Thumps. I also did like the 800 watt Rockville 15 inch speakers. I also got a dual pole stand bag to carry the 2 pole stands while i can carry the speakers. The 800 watt Rockville 15 inch speakers did sound prety fucking good onthe bass and treble and some mids. But i wanted to upgrade my 2 DJ speakers. I've gotten my Peavey Mic and Peavey PA12 EQ Mixer and alot of my XLR cables from marshal and Guitar Center. Guitar Center is my most favorite store!

( i also sound tested the speakers before i bought them aswell. The Mackie Thump15A's i honestly really like alot. But the QSC K10 K.2 speakers does sound okay. The mids and treble is strong but the bass isn't strong enough. ) - I always have the speakers EQ setting on Studio for the best bass response. The other EQ settings just kinda suck. That is why i always use the Studio EQ setting. I also don't wanna buy and use a subwoofer around with my DJ gigs. I would like to use the 2 big speakers for loud bass and treble and mids. I like the Mackie Thumps so i'm gonna go with the Mackie Thump15A's ( 2 of them ) And maybe at somepoint on sell my 2 QSC Speakers to someone maybe? if i do get the Mackie Thump15A's.

QSC and RCF are our usual suggestion. Doesn't mean there isnt plenty of other great companies to buy from! But those two are the go to.

I legit have 2 QSC K10 K2's and no subs. I don't wanna haul around a big fat or small sub while hauling around my 2 speakers. I've used these QSC speakers for awhile. i am thinking of getting 2 Mackie Thump15A's because i think they do sound pretty awesome. Plus you can use an app on devices for to do a manual EQ ( i might be wrong though )

Ha-ha...Seriously Mackie speakers are designed to have a completely flat response. If you know anything about pro audio a flat response is 100 percent what you're looking for in PA speakers. With a flat response it is then in the power of the engineer to adjust and add the audio highs, lows , mids to the venue size, amount of people ect.
@2DudesAudio
@2DudesAudio 4 жыл бұрын
Theres a difference between completely flat and literally sounding like it was in a cardboard box. But hey we will take your word for it👍

@@2DudesAudio taking into consideration the speakers are literally $300. so yeah any speaker in that price range is going to sound like a frikin cardboard box dude. but if that's all someone can afford Mackies are definitely a great speaker in that price range.

@@ZacPettyMusic The Harbingers. I push them fairly hard and they still sound as good as they did when I got them. I have to admit though I did put a small burn on one of the tweeters. It fuzzes a bit at high levels now. Not Harbingers fault.

if you don't wanna haul around a sub or couple subs and you want some good bass with the just the speakers, go for the Mackie Thump15A's. They sound insanely amazing without a subwoofer. These speakers have strong bass and mids and trebles. if you want to haul around a small amount of speakers, just go for 2 of the speakers. it's alittle bit longer setup if you have a sub with a couple speakers

I run a karaoke entertainment business and I have 2 of theses exact harbingers. One venue has Mackie thumbs and the sound is awful when I use there. No clarity on vocals at all and just less quality sound over all. The other DJ was dising my harbingers and I straight up said to him idk man my show sounds wayyy better with my harbingers. They are GREAT AND DON'T get enough credit for sure.
