Those needing bearings, Here's your exact bearing set with seal for the 4 x 8 trailers of HF and Northern tool trailer in this group amzn.to/2JigQrH

where did you get the tandem fender?
@PainterD545 ай бұрын
You may beefed up the axle capacity, but that cheap frame won't take much more than it's designed for (if that is the heavy duty 1750 version) The drawbars are weak and can twist easily too. I pretty much stayed away from that cheaply made just and just got a well constructed axle and frame so I have something worth working with.

a lot of your links are broken I'm not all that worried about it I'm trying to figure out a single axle kit as I'm investigating the possibility of acquiring one of those HF project trailers, I appreciate the no nonsense, I figured welds would be a good idea, I was a little confused on a few parts however, would you happen to know the gauge of the channel? And approximate inside dimension of the channels between the walls to possibly give them a beef up, however where the two sections are combined I think perhaps for now just bolt on some angle iron so the trailer can be broken down if need be... eventually weld tho
@boydmerriman3 жыл бұрын
I have been wanting to get a HF trailer Heavy Duty, but knew I would be welding the frame together as I wouldn't trust those bolts either! Still don't have one, but I'll get there eventually.

Good work Sir. Do you feel the trailer frame will take more weight than stock.
@PrepperMountainSolutions7 жыл бұрын
+mark mathews It's beefed up with 2" angle full length and two inner plates on the axle perches. So far we put a 300 gallon tank full of water on it and hauled it over 200 miles to a mining claim in the nevada desert with no ill effects.

In order for a tandem axle trailer to work right, you need to put an equalizer between the springs on each side...
@PrepperMountainSolutions5 жыл бұрын
Yes, that kit has finally been bought after 1400 miles of use. Tires are ok, no wear from lack of center pivot point yet. But for us to take it out of state it has to be inspected and thats why the full set of 2 k springs and parts. Look for that vid soon.

Had this same idea floating around in my head. Only thing was, I didn't have even one HF trailer to try it. LOL.

0ff road maybe [ ? ] ... ... many states require all trailers with dual axles to have trailer brakes as well ... ! If you have the 3000# carrying capacity, you require stopping power too. Yes , I agree with the wheels on each side needing equalizing (walking beam) arms on the springs.
@VillsvinJeger5 жыл бұрын
Not when it's a home made trailer. Depends on each state.

Check local laws but i think its a US.DOT regulation. All trailers with more than one axle must have brakes on all axles
@PrepperMountainSolutions4 жыл бұрын
This build is registered with non commercial dot plates for 3000 lb. However, Here's DOT LAW: All trailers over 4000 lbs capacity must have braking methods including electric, hydraulic, surge or air on one or more axles. Trailers exceeding 7000 lbs require both axles to have braking methods. Trailers exceeding 7001 lbs to 16,000 must have both trailer and tow vehicle brakes that can handle a 6% incline stop without failure (see under 26,000 class towing) DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION utility, recreation, manufacturer codes: 1955 ammended 1980, *adoption front wheel drive standard 1993.

Don't understand why you would cut the frame at the axle. That's a structural stress point. Not a place for a down root. Easier and safer to move the axles and extend the platform. Also when extending or shortening a frame, be it car, truck, or trailer, S cuts and fish plates give the most strength.
@PrepperMountainSolutions6 жыл бұрын
Being dual slipper springs (for now) the cut was to get the 2 original spring mounts in place for the ease of alignment from the original design. Plating in and out was done, as well as under mounting angle the entire length of the axles plus 8 inches, over mounting angle the entire upper frame and boxing the channel too. Soon I will be pulling the axles to install 2000 lb scissor torsion mounts from frame to axles.

Looks like crap. The only place you should pull it is to the junk yard. If your truck will not pull it lmk and I’ll pull it for you. You can stay home don’t worry I’ll get it there. Now to be serious . When you finished it did you stay with 2” ball. I like it. Good job there 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
@keithskustoms23114 жыл бұрын
Why not just buy a real trailer. 🤔
@Littrell19666 жыл бұрын
You should have removed the axle and spring assembly from the second trailer, then added them on the frame behind the first. Then you could have added your extension. I would be very worried about how you did this. Not near as safe!
