This is a good houshold welder for the money. You can still buy them for $79.99 on tent sale weekends.

This welder is just fine for automotive patch panels. Use a setting of low and a wire speed of 5. Use Lincoln 30 wire and spot (tack) weld the patch in. It sounds like your wire tension is to high causing your dog to bark. These welders can be made better by adding an inverter, caps,etc, and a better ground clamp. Look around KZbin to see how they can be improved! Regards-

Just bought one a few minutes ago. Not home yet to try it out. I'm doing a trailer rebuild. 1/8" to 1/8" butt welds. The trailer will be for a teardrop camper. I have a KZbin video called...."Teardrop trailer rebuild part 1 from the busted Knuckle Garage".

This is great. I have always to learn how to weld and this is cheaper than going to school. This welder you have demonstrated looks like it would do the trick for the simple things I want to do. But i m a bit hazy as to what you guys are talking about as far as plugs and amperage. could you be more elaborate please?Thank you

Outlawflyer78 You need a dedicated 20amp 120 volt plug to power the machine properly. It draws a lot of power.

Think u are running a little "cold" - when it piles up like that its not penetrating as much - sure itll hold, you want a flatter roof with a slight "stacked coin" appearance - otherwise thanks! looking at getting this myself -

I purchased this welder about 3 years ago for hobby projects. I used it maybe 3-4 times and the wire feed stripped out of it. No longer feeds the wire. I tried adjusting tension and the plastic housing broke. I will be donating to local garbage pick up. If you are going to do any substantial amount of welding with high expectations, spend the money and buy a better product.

i have run mine off extension cords. it does not do as well but for light applications it will work. my air compressor is a 26 gal 110v and it uses more power than the welder. no way it will run off the same cord.

The extension cord is part of the problem by doing so it cuts down on the power to the welder. Been welding 35 years so.......

@texastoolreview5204
@texastoolreview5204 Жыл бұрын
The copper piece screws into the end. It's best to leave copper tip off to get the feed wire all the way out of the tip a few inches on first use or respool. Then slide copper end down wire and screw it to end before use.

i was given this welder that was never used. it turns on and feeds the wire fine perfect. when i touch the wire to the steel nothing happens. its metal from a 55 gallon steel drum with all the paint and rust removed. i have the ground clamped to the metal im trying to weld. what am i doing wrong?
@texastoolreview5204
@texastoolreview5204 2 жыл бұрын
Check that you have a good ground first. Clean the area where you're going to put ground clamp and try again. Make 💯% certain that you have no flammable fumes in the drum or it could explode.

Just bought his same model & installed a dedicate 20 amp plug for full power (as it says on the power cord). It also says it will only weld up to 3/16" mild alloy steel. So, I'm not sure why you'd bother evaluating it by welding 1/2"?
@texastoolreview5204

Steven Weede That's my mini welding table. It was a simple test weld. There is not a Mig welder on the planet that can properly join 1/2 steel in a single pass.

Its rated to join 3/16 steel in a single pass as long as it is not thicker than that or to thin it will work fine. For that.

I like the price but for maximum power it really needs 20A house breakers which didn't work for me as I only have 15A breakers. I ended up buying a dual voltage everlast. If you ever want to upgrade I highly suggest looking at dual voltage welders.

John Johnson I think it would work on low setting for that ok. I would recommend a sample test so you could dial in the wire speed correctly first.

So you would recommend this for automotive sheet metal? I have some rust in the rear fender of my '65 Mustang that needs patched. Have a 50 amp AC buzz box stick welder but it's not adjustable. 50 amps is a bit much.
@LandofNonecom
@LandofNonecom 6 жыл бұрын
@Scooter George I've heard of people running long extension cords to lower the amps on non adjustable welding units. I've also heard of people using 6013 to weld automotive panels. The trick to welding automotive panels regardless of said unit or application, is to do a spot weld or a tack weld and leavie about an inch of space between the tack or spot welds. Allow time to let the puddle cool down to not warp the metal and proceed to keep doing the same process until the gap is full. You only need 1 second hold to do a tact weld or a spot weld, although depending on thickness of said metal, it may need a longer hold. I hope this helps you in some way.

I managed to weld a small patch in the tail light panel on my '65 Mustang where someone drilled a 1' hole for an alarm arming key switch. Used my 50 amp buzz box with 6013 rod. It was a slow and tedious process. The 1/16' rod is so floppy it is somewhat difficult to strike an ark without it sticking.
@LandofNonecom
@LandofNonecom 6 жыл бұрын
There is two ways of i know of starting an arc on a stick unit. take a scrap piece of clean steel plate and get the arc going and than quickly transfer the hot rod to the application you're working with, and Usually this will make your welds look cleaner. You can also hold the rod in your free hand to get the arc going if you find the rod to be floppy, but remember to wear thicker gloves. There is also the trick of cutting your rods in smaller size pieces to limit the floppiness when doing patches.

Seen another video where a guy welded 1/2". It did not quite have 100 percent penetration but it still joined the pieces pretty well. 3/8" should be no issue.
